MINISTER of Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Education John Phiri said in the past years most promotions in the teaching fraternity were made on tribal and nepotistic lines a trend that the current Government would not tolerate.
Dr Phiri said the corrupt practices had extended to inducing favours from provincial education officers (PEOs), district education board secretaries (DEBS) and principals so that their people are considered for promotions. Speaking in Kabwe yesterday during the official opening of PEOs and DEBs workshop Mr Phiri said staff appraisal systems must ensure that only the best filter through and ultimately get promoted.
Dr Phiri said he was however happy to learn from the seminar objectives that if achieved the system would be on its way to clear the air over the rather poor showing hither to exhibited.
And teaching service commission chairperson Jennifer Chiwela said the commissions mandate is to appoint professionally qualified persons to the teaching service. Ms Chiwela added that the commission’s goal is to perform its constitutional role and functions deligently, efficiently and transparently taking account of merit and justice.
She said the commission was determined to work relentlessly to correct bad tendencies and practices that are likely to tarnish the image of the teaching profession.
Isnt nepotism and tribalism the modus operandi of this ultra regional PF government?

Phiri,don’t think all Zambians are stupid and lost from the current trend where President Ukwa is only appointing his Bemba relatives and handfull of easterners and has no regard for other tribes. Who openly said ( kwashya mukwenu) was it not our constable president, Sata.
Now who are you to deceive Zambian that the PF govt. will not tolerate nepotism and tribalism when the man spearheading such is Sata and the wife. And don’t forget that you bulldozed your relatives’ children at UNZA and CPU yet they never qualified, kumawa, confirms it.

Good stance, Honourable Minister. Unfortunately, your efforts will prove futile because your boss is an ardent disciple of tribalism and nepotism. Sort him out first and then you can talk about discouraging the vice in your ministry.

Tribalism will always be there as long as we have more than one tribe, i would urge the minister or the president to ban all tribal inclinations, provinces and creat one tibe to be called Zambianse, language, English, am telling you if this can be achieved, we shall see developement in all areas, Zambians will love and accept each other, there will be nothing to fight about, when allocating funds, it wont be allocated to so and so province, but to Zambia, employing will be easy in short, life would be so easy if we all looked at each other as Zambians, unfortunately we dont except a few high standard people like me!

Well said Dr Phiri. I hope this was meant for the President and not your ministry? The appointments so far in Foreign Service and other positions by MCS have been LOUDLY TRIBAL.
Gonclaves, if you read carefuly and understand my comment, you will see that am not in favour of the current situation, i hope you are not too, if a few are against this terrible sin, we can in the end fight it, one is better than zero.
