Zambia exorcised their Cosafa Cup ghosts against Bafana Bafana after a beating them on post-match penalties to reach this year’s finals.
Chipolopolo beat Bafana 5-4 on post-match penalties after a grueling 120 minutes of extra time at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
The win ended Bafana’s two succesive wins over Zambia in the 2008 semifnals and 2007 finals.
Bafana however, ha the better chances on the night after hitting the post twice.
Gamildien Ruzaigh hit the post in the 61st minute while Lerato Chabangu too was denied a chance five minutes from time.
In extra time, Zambia were flat and the two late substitutes Alex Ngonga and Moses Phiri failed to turn around the after went off Bruce Musakanya and Jimmy Chisenga.
Zambia’s hero was Daniel Munyau who parried Chabangu’s spot kick to give the hosts the advantage while Captain Bronson Chama settled the shootout with the final penalty to send Herve Renard’s side through.
The hosts face Zimbabwe on Saturday in a trans-Zambezi derby final at Levy.
Pathetic display, ba Zambia, nxa!
Good ! We will wire the Mugabe children too.
After watching that game I’ve been wondering whether we shouldn’t admit that we are just an average soccer team and start behaving as such. Check the following and tell me if I’ve no reason to worry;
1. AFCON Final Win (2012) – on post match penalties
2. AFCON 2013 qualification – post match penalties(against Lesotho)
3. World Cup 2014 qualification – even after being credited with Free marks we aren’t topping the group
Now Zambia has a goalkeeper Munyau, he has never been red-carded, and he never shoot penalties.
@Wanu Ngwee – A win is a win. And by the way this is not the same team that won the AFCON 2012. This is depth. This is a tournament of the Southern African league all-stars. simmer down this is Zambia ‘B’. We are still undefeated in tournaments since 2010 Afcon – lost to Cameroun.
@MartyUSA,have u 4goten that we lost to Sudan in Sudan 2-0???its only that we were handed the 3 free points by FIFA….
@MartyUSA,have you forgoten that we were beaten by Sudan 2-0 in Sudan??its only that FIFA gave us the 3 free points and the win aswell.otherwise we lost.
@ Nostradamus Munyau still has to prove himself. How does a goakeeper allow crosses to pass thruogh the 9 yard box unchallenged? We could have been punished only that the posts came to our aid on both occasions. He also need to come out of his area sometimes. I noticed that even when the ball has entered the 18 yard box with a striker neck to neck with a difender, he would be rooted to his spot and then what would happen if the striker gets the ball first. It was good he saved that panalty though to me he looked a bit navours. I dont whether Chongo who came in as a sustitute is a diffender or striker cause he kept going foward and leaving a big gap behind. Bronson Chama was solid and Munthali was cool. Hope Musakanya will be fit for the final.
Sorry, the AFCON 2013 qualification was against UGANDA and not Lesotho
@MartyUSA, there may have been only one or two teams in this tournament that fielded their best squads, so that excuse doesn’t hold any water. And the fact that this team isn’t the one that lifted the AFCON trophy via a post match penalty session is even MORE worrying – it shows that penalties are our only way of winning IRRESPECTIVE of which team we field !!!
Zambia and South africa game played at the magnificent Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola was an epic replica of the 2012 AFCON final in Gabon. They boys fought hard to a nil-nil outcome in regular and extra time.
The two teams were separated through penalties, when Zambia goalie Danny Munyau stopped one shot from Lerato Chibangu of South Africa. Zambia goes to the final to meet Zimbabwe. THIS WILL BE A FIGHT FOR THE UNWTO super host, kikikikikiki.
Good job supersport television channel for those wonderful pictures.
Congrats lads or else Zambians would have watching on the terraces. More beer for Zambians on Saturday.
Isn’t there something better to do than “more beer”. The culture of beer drinking in Zambia is worrisome. How I wish when KK resigned because of the scourge he hadn’t rescinded his decision. Just an observation.
Please don’t worry its only a local developmental team. They can still improve as time goes. They boys can only do what their experience can afford. Bravo Zambian boys
Local yes but developmental I doubt. How old is Munyao, Chama and Munthali? These guys and many others shoud be above 25. To me it does not make sence to start developing players above 25 cause they going towards the end of their carrier. Lets start developing players at or bellow 20 so that they give about 10 years of good service.
Sorry ladies and gentlemen. Am I in the minority regarding issues on communication? My being is over sensitive to spelling and grammatical errors. Take @Soby’s five sentence communique with the following spelling errors; sence (sense), carrier (career) and bellow (below). Either the teachers didn’t do a good job or the inbuilt self regulatory mechanism was not fully developed to catch these aberrations at the time of writing/typing or is it that people just don’t care about spelling anymore? My sympathies if its a case of dyslexia
The tournament sponsors more than anybody else are relieved. You don’t want a dull final blighted by local fan apathy. That would have been a grave injustice to what so far is sure to go down history books as the BEST COSAFA TOURNAMENT EVER ORGANIZED. And now, come Saturday, we shall finish on a high. We are back-to-back under 20 COSAFA champions plus the original champs at senior level for crying out loud.
BaLT it’s 5-3 and NOT 5-4 scores result.
Imwe ba LT edit your reports before rushing to publish. You sound ignorant and un educated. No wonder this blog is now patronized by Grade 9 drop outs.
Mushota pass the puke bucket please.
Where is Jairas? Watching amadogi watchers?
That kama useless online publication that is good at insulting our leaders called Zambian Watchdog has finally been blacked out. Let us pop champagne corks.
It is not people dog watchers but dogs watching you. Like WATCH MAN (Malonda, Guard), you have WATCH DOG! Ichisungu.
Now, that knife you use to cut bread is it a knife-bread or bread-knife? The word that comes at the end is the noun. The other is only descriptive or an adjective. It tells you about what that object does….
i enjoyed the skills exhibited by the zambian young lads, the game reminded me of the zambia/ghana at same levy mwanawasa stadium, GO BOYS GO!
Muvi tv, should school their cheap labour soccer journalists what to say and what not…..the clip that appeared on muvi tv showing the build up to game left me disappointed as the cheap labour reporter went on to use the word ”depleted” south african national team sounding like south africa came with a strong team but due to injuiries etc most of their stars were not taking part. The reporter copied what is said on supersport without understanding the context the word is used. All the teams came with the best they could select, so what was the isu with this cheap labour reporter.
The match officials killed the game to some extent, “poor officiating”. That is the very reason why African Ref don’t go any further. How could two officials watching the same game give different decisions, pointing in different directions. The game was not handed in a professional way. Thank God we won.
I should agree with you, the referee blew at every instance of a normal body check, making it look like a primary school match in a PE class.
Makulafye
The referee was not good guy,he issued too many yellow cards!
The Nkana striker “Mbewe” does not deserve to be in the national team, two games without a short on target for a top man?? What was HR thinking keeping the chap in the game until he substituted himself?? Winstone Kalengo and Sate Sate together with Bornwell Mwape were going to be the best strike force for Zambia!! Typical of HR U win one draw the next and so on… Anyway Congrats boys for shaming RSA, we told them we are the powerhouse of Southern Africa and their coach found a very bitter Pill to swallow………
Now I feel sorry for people who work in bars and night clubs; they have a hell lot of work to do because we like our drinks rapid when we are in a festive mood. To all our detractors I say “watch the space”.
The two strikers upfront have no pace at all and should be replaced
I am a Nkana supporter and 100% agree with EX ZIT, Festus Mbewe has failed to live up to our expectations of him as a striker as he does at Nkana. Indeed Winstone Kalengo and Sate Sate Kampamba could could have done us a favor. As for Bonwell Mwape I feel he is under performing. Bruce Musakanya is the man, hope he recovers before the final. GO Zambia go.
Soby, you are right on goalkeeper Munyau. How can he let crosses within his reach just pass-by?The guy was just ball watching.Hope the Coach saw his weakness otherwise Ndoro will punish us.
Am just waiting for the big one, these small games dont excite me, i conder them training games, i hope your style will be much more sharper, calculative and practical, otherwise, if tings remain as foreseen, we are so going down not to upset or scare anyone, those are just facts, we sure need a miracle with Ghana dont say i never told you!
BORN-WELL…NGOnGA,,,,,Lol…..no one shot on target in 120min…
The game was good full of depth. In today’s game you don’t expect your opponent just to seat and watch you score them. Seeing names I have never heard perform like that was just mouth watering. VIVA Zambia!
Good soccer display soccer display by both teams. The young lads showed seriousness and effort to win unlike the senior team, they have become big haeded and full of themselves.HR please can you work on the set pieces especially aerial balls. The boys need to shoot on goal and not try to waste time on too much goal possession. For Zimbabwe game, please watch that guy Ndoro.Good luck boys
GREAT PERFORMANCE CHIPOLOPOLO. REMEMBER GOD IS THE ALPHA AND OMEGA, LETS PRAY FOR OUR GUYS, WE NEED FAVOUR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
FROM ABOVE.
