UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema has demanded for the immediate re-opening of Copperbelt University.
CBU has been closed indefinitely following a spate of riots that rocked the institution.
Mr. Hichilema has charged that the closure of the institution coupled with protests by pupils across the country is an indication of a breakdown of the education system in the country.
He told a media briefing in Lusaka this morning that a disastor in the education sector is looming if the PF govenment does not change for the better.
Mr. Hichilema has also described the suspension of union leaders at CBU as unfair.
He has since called on government and CBU management to quickly resolve the challenges facing the institution.
Mr. Hichilema has also disclosed that the UPND has written to the Zambia police for a permit to protest against Acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda’s stay in office.
He said Justice Chibesakunda has proven to be favoring the PF in the execution of her duties hence the need to have her removed.
This is a good move. We shall all join in the demo so that we can show this pathetic government how unpopular it has become. It is true the education system is headed for doom if this gvt does not change. There is too much stealing and less attention paid to matters that affect the citizens. Sata wants to build his retirement house while Christine Kaseba is globe-trotting; all illegal activities. Sata’s retirement house is not due while Kaseba’s K1.5 million allocation to her so-called office are unconstitutional. Meanwhile, the common man on the street is buying mealie meal at K80. The price of fuel has gone up hence propelling the cost of living to unmanageable levels. People are angry and therefore, we wnat to welcome any form of protest so that we can show this government our anger.

UNZA and CBU are inferior because of the caliber of students who go there.
Higher education students must have the sense to negotiate and get what they want without violence. What is the job of the student union? What has damaging property and run ins with police done for them? They don’t even have the basic knowledge about conflict resolution.

Shame to all of you who look down upon UNZA and CBU. The fact is most people who failed to compete academically at these institutions sought refuge at foreign institutions where degrees are easily obtained.I know quiet a lot of people who failed to complete their studies at these institutions but went on to obtain masters and PHDS. Now think for a moment, if all these guys who managed to graduate at these Zambian troubled institutions were to be given the same opportunity to study at these well resourced institutions, they all would have graduated with flying colours. If in doubt about what I am saying look up what most Zambians in the diaspora who studied at these Zambian institutions have got to. Some of us are here working having been recruited just with Zambia qualifications.

My understanding is that CBU were closed because they were no peace between students and lecturer. Even if Mr HH you are entitled to your own opinion re-opening CBU is not a good option,the place is not conducive at moment,let there be order and find the solution on accommodation problems so that the issues of squartering can be sorted out once and for all.

I do not understand how you choose to compare HH to Mazoka, is it because both are Tongas. My arguments are based on universal understanding of things and not on who is a better Tonga between a dead one and the living one(tribe). Am yet to be inspired by Chipimo. To me a political leader is one who has achieved reasonably as to inspire others. In life, if you are always driven by emotions then you have no good purpose to live, but just to increase the population. Mazoka does not come in at this point, if its so its as good as advising a widow that your late husband was better one. The valid comparison is that of HH and Sakwiba Sikota. Firstly, I have high regard for SS, but facts show that he did not attract enough following after forming ULP. Moreover, they competed within UPND democratically and HH won. Now, these arguments are unnecessarily, what is important now is for us to be able to choose a leader based on what they are and their abilities so that in turn, the nation would benefit from them. A leader such as Mr Sata, when I try very hard to close my eyes so that I see where he could inspire me – its ZERO. But, assuming you are wise, you could constructively show us the wisdom you see in Sata as president now.
MAZOKA comes in in the sense that he is turning in his grave seeing HH turning a once hope of the people UPND into a disgraceful party.
