The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set January 7th 2014 as date to host the Vubwi and Zambezi West Parliamentary by-elections and one local government by-election.

In statement to Qfm, ECZ spokesperson Cris Akufuna says the commission has also set December 10th this year as date for filing in of nominations by aspiring candidates wanting to take part in the by-elections.

He says media personnel and registered Nongovernmental organizations wanting to monitor the by-elections are to apply for accreditation from the ECZ from Saturday 30th November this year to Friday the 3rd of January 2014.

The Vubwi and Zambezi parliamentary seats fell vacant by nullification by the Supreme while the local government by-election of Ipumbu ward of Mpongwe District, Copperbelt Province fell vacant following the death of the area councilor Levy Chibomba.

  1. The Cartel controls the Supreme Court…..

    ….all this is in vain.

  2. this is nonsense..why should we be having by elections..?till 2106..?let the opposition get them back..

  3. Y does the opposition does not petition when all I see the PF nullifying the seats of the opposition? The PF cheated to give BRE what was due for them and all Zambians heard about that, they further said we shall do all things in 90 days and may other promises. We saw for ourselves and heard how the PF was dishing out money in a by-election in Kapiri Mposhi, all these are issues of concern for PF MPs to be nullified.

  4. UPND had Zambezi west for 15 years and the contituency is the least developed in Zambia.Bye bye Kakoma. We want to try PF this time around.

  5. Latest ! Up and down as usual have started buying voters cards.PF wake up before you are dribbled again. These HH Chaps survive through corruption all the time.

  6. Keep Dreaming PF. Both seats will be won by opposition parties. MMD is bouncing back next year. Presidential elections will be held next year and not 2016. Rupiah will be back to finish off the cartel and put Zambia back on development path.

  7. zambezi west bank is occupied by the descendants of some of the difficult to change people in the whole world. For over 5 centuries the Portuguise recieved some of the fierciest resistance against colonisation by the inhabitants of eastern Angola who later spilled over into northwestern zambia, PF in its current form can hardly win an election there. Moreso with Sata’s overused campsign msg of not taking delopment to areas where he has no representation. Lets wait and see.

  8. NO MORE BY-ELECTIONS. PAY THE ZAMBIAN STUDENT IN RUSSIA AND OTHER FOREIGN COUNTRIES BEFORE YOU HOLD AN BY-ELECTIONS.

  9. President sata is not God things ar going wrong and pipo ar quite him is eating free food he does not feel the pain of mealie meal,Anyway God is watch him.its 2014
