Zambia Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition National Coordinator William Chilufya has been named on the list of top ten people shaping policy and practice on nutrition and development in the world by UK’s Guardian Newspaper.
The list released by the newspaper was compiled by its readers based on the effective use of Twitter for advocating for better nutrition.
It aimed at highlighting the work of the nutrition champions across the world and creating a network of individuals that are passionate about nutritional development.
Mr Chilufya, the Head of the Zambia Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition Alliance, a civil society organisation advocating for better nutrition was selected by readers due to his active use of Twitter to promote improved nutrition.
Zambia has some of the highest malnutrition rates in the world with 45 percent of children under the age of five stunted.
Some of the leading figures in food and nutritional development have made it on the list including Dani Nierenberg, the co-founder of Food Tank, a Chicago based think-tank looking at food and nutrition.
Others are Ruth Landy , a consultant and advocate for global health, nutrition, women and children, based in San Francisco, US and Purnima Menon, a senior research fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute based in New Delhi, India.
Mr Chilufya who is the only African on the list has also been joined by Adrianna Logalbo , the campaign director at Thousands Days, an advocacy organisation promoting new investment and partnerships to improve nutrition for mothers and young children, based in Washington, DC.
And commenting on the development, Mr Chilufya said he is humbled by the recognition of his efforts to advocate for improved nutrition.
“This is also very encouraging for us and shows the power of social media. This also shows that the use of social media for development advocacy has arrived in Zambia especially that even President Sata has also joined social media and he is using this tool effectively to communicate development messages to the rest of the world,” he said.
Way to go Mr Chilufya keep on representing!
The Guardian is not a reputable paper
I prefer the Sun, which is more informative
