The UPND has adopted Jonas Shakafuswa as its candidate in the Katuba Parliamentary by election slated for 25th February 2014.
The MMD has also announced that veteran politician and former diplomat Cecil Holmes as its candidate for Katuba.
UPND Party Deputy Secretary General Kuchunga Simusamba confirmed the adoption of Mr. Shakafuswa in an interview.
Mr. Simusamba explained that out of the four candidates who had shown interest in contesting the seat, Mr. Shakafuswa stood out as the most popular.
“We are confident that Mr Shakafuswa will win us the seat. The primaries have shown that he is a very popular candidate,” Mr Simusamba said.
Mr. Shakafuswa once saved as Katuba MP in the MMD administration.
The PF has adopted Moses Chilando while the MMD has adopted Cecil Holmes.
An MMD source said “Mr Holmes is a very popular candidate. He has in the area and he is one of the most prominent farmers in Katuba so we have picked on a local person,”
the source said.
The Katuba seat fell vacant following the death of area Member of Parliament Patrick Chikusu.
Cecil Holmes, leave the old guards to enjoy their remaining with their families.
Yes need another white man, Cecil Rhodes, not only Guy Scott.
@Nostradamus
from which tribe… and what local language wil he use? because Sata says Zambians must speak Zambian languages not ichisungu, so all of you outside zambia speaking other languages risk being declared unZambian
I am not worried about speaking Zambian languages because I can speak at least 5 Zambian Languages namely Silozi Chitonga Ichibemba Chichewa and Kikaonde.
That what I mean to be a true son of the Zambian soil.
I will be devastated if PF wins. But will celebrate if either MMD and UPND wins the elections.
By the way UPND-MD formation has reached an advanced stage . A break away MMD group wants to join UPND and rally behind HH.
UPND multi-party democracy (UPND – MD)
Women slaughterer is back please take care of your women, if he wins the slaughtering resumes so watch out.
UPND can’t come up with there own MP, only in southern . MMD is a victim
You fool….dont u know that shakafuswa was UPND and he is just going back to his roots?
shakafuswa wil win it not cecil who is a muswamashi.
If Shakafuswa wins, then the Katuba voters are not for morally up right pipo.Remember SHaks saying the Parliament Motel is a slaughter house for women by the MPs,Shaks included. So Shaks was busy slaughtering women instead of taking development to Katuba.Let’s wait and see.I know the Katuba Voters are wise pipo of integrity
Can’t see anything new UPND also recycling what is the problem someone explain to me please. Thought UPND has young and new chaps on the Zambian political scene, kanshi ni Ma rabbish. MMD has run out of ideas, let these old Guards rest please start fusing in new chaps there are a lot of people in Katuba who are Credible than this circus.
shakas is not old … he still very much relevant to zed politics. besides he is a very brave and principled . viva UPND good choice. Make PF run for there money !!!!
Oh so Cecil Rhodes is young new blood for MMD?
@yes kaanja
Recycle does not always mean ‘old’. In this case and indeed many if not all..it means something that has been used before. And the point is we want “clean” politicians with a moral compass. Not these hungry mouths, that desert a party when the see their fortunes sinking…they are all traitors who will disown the electorate once voted into power. Look at Sata and perhaps the entire PF.
UPnD has only mainly managedto groom it’s own candidates in Southern Province, otherwise most of the times from other areas, it canibalizes from MMD.I think MMD is quite strong-PF and UPnD gets from MMD.MMD is attacked from 2 fronts.
Only Holmes applied.Where are your young people?
good pick..Jonas S..ist your seat again..
Are there no moral, clean people for UPND to choose from. We NOW need CLEAN leaders please.
Under the circumstances I will encourage my family back home to vote for MMD. Shaks is a drunkard Kaponya. His mouth waters at the sight of whisky. He cannot sleep without whisky running in his veins. He is on fast track to become Guy Scott. PF shall be taught a lesson, so leftover is MMD. Cecil has better credentials, though he is old. When young ones fail, old guard has to get out and fight.
Viva Cecil Homes, Viva MMD,Viva ABZ, Viva Chipimo, Viva Gen. Miyanda.
Cecil Holmes, your farming will suffer it beats me why you’d not encourage your party to source for a younger person! Good luck!
Right choice. MMD is the party waiting to be back in the driving seat.
UPND is tired of running and losing battles one after the other. Cecil Holmes is the right candidate for Katuba. Shakafuswa is too arrogant and self-centred.
Yeah this habit of recycling politicians makes them feel they are indispensable! Though when given a second chance he’d be better off taking heed to comments like yours RSMunjakata and use it to make amends to better self with the electorate.
At the moment, anything but PF will do. PF wants numbers in Parliament in order for them to pass punitive laws and that is why they are inducing all these by-elections. We need to support the opposition parties, whichever one it is..
Maybe Shaks has some unfinished business at Parliament Motel!
Yes Shaks has un finished business at Parliament Motel to Slaughter at least some more women in the remaining 2yrs before 2016
Same old people and yet we continue to expect something different? ma labishi….yachabe chabe…!
Our greedy opposition will never learn! There ua again splitting yr votes! Dont cry foul if pf wins!
BAUZE
UPND has no original ideas. Looks like MMD had all the best brains. Even when it is said to be finished both UPND and PF are attracted to their finished old former MPs
Ba Shakas balipwa Benz yabo ML ABK ilasmoka. If he wins parliament ll b a brethel again, alitemwa ukupopapopa
Cecils Holmes who was lying to us back then in 2008 that Mwanawasa is recovering and jogging and yet ninshi muyashi umuntu! Let us forget about the MMD they have no solution to the problems they created. Some independent members would do better than all these rejects from the business parties!
Have nothing against Shakas but I feel he is a raw deal for Katuba residents. What has he done for them lately?
Shakas kraal is also an abbatoir for pf and mmd.balenje bataanshi!
A lost nation of 24/7 electioneering and only 5% percent of time is focused on real issues and development. Glad I abandoned this sinking ship full of uchafu, ujinga na watu wavivu.
Spot on! Some people are so fixated on politics that they can not see beyond their noses.
In my dream last nite, MMD won. I did not read about this but this has happened has coincident
I too support Shakas for Katuba constituency & at a good ticket like UPND. We shall voteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
UPND is finished my friend, they used to condemn recycling when it did not suite them. shame
SHAKAFUSWA might win the UPND the Katuba by-election. But beyond that what is UPND indicating? That it is prepared to recycle discredited politicians from other political parties? That it has no new blood? That if given chance to come in power, it will pursue similar policies as those of MMD and PF. Or is this an indication that Zambian politics are pushed by money? Individuals with money win? So the UPND is broke?
Am equally perturbed by my party UPND. We have become like PF wanting to win at all cost even when it means throwing away our principles and lying. there is no hope for mother Zambia, Politicians are just the same
Check your records bwana coz Jonas first won Katuba under UPND ticket in 2001 with Mazoka at the helm. He later joined his uncle Mwanawasa in MMD and was appointed deputy minister. He later fell out of Rupiah’s favor. Jonas partipated in the last general elections under UPND . So who is a victim here, UPND or MMD? Note this for your future reference.
Your history is correct bwana but munthu wakaena morality palibe. That is a problem. When are we ever going to have principled people leading us. Because of people like Shakas, it’s little wonder we can have resign on moral grounds. In the USA and other countries, people resign because their standing is no longer right in society but our own Shakas even preaches his immorality. What a shame!!!!
Matrix reloaded. Women be careful
When I look at our Zambian way of politics there is no much difference to that of Zimbabwe. Yes about presidents we may say we change but the rest of the positions regardless of the past records we are always recycling the old folks. Surely when will we change for the better? Are we changing the people or just parties? To me both the UPND and MMD choices shows no seriousness when I look at the 2 guys. Does it mean there are no more new blood in these constituencies who can take up these challenges? This is where we go wrong because we always want to pick the rejects or left overs. Even if say one of the 2 takes the day, their impact on the ground afterwards will be a big disappointment which will cost us dearly creating a big weakness next time we hold elections come 2016.
Why do these political parties continue on recycling old politicians ? Why cant they adopt new politicians with fresh ideas ? Same tired people going back to parliament no wonder this country is going backwards.
People you are forgetting NAREP, who are fielding Joseph Mushalika, He will be a force to contend with also.
I think Moses Chilando is the right candidate in the present circumstances.
He is you hard working and can change things in Katuba. Give him a chance.Fresh blood performs.
Animals belong in a zoo not in parliament. Some of the candidates for this seat made declarations that Dr. Chikusu would die and there would be a by election this year. Dr Chikusu’s nephews and certain candidates campaigning for the Katuba parliamentary seat made threats on his life and celebrated his death.I feel pity on the illiterates who could never compete with brilliant men and women in the world like Dr. Chikusu. His research is used by scientists for the benefit of mankind. His IQ was tested by scientists and he was a genius. Keep your flimsy Katuba seat villager with an IQ of 0. By the way IQ= intelligence quotient.
