The Zambian fellows drawn from various professional backgrounds join several other fellows from other African countries for the six week program that will culminate into a summit to be graced by president Obama in Washington DC.

    • Aaah yes and so it begins, a so called black president being used to colonise Africa. We know about Barack Obama and the Africom project; i wouldnt be suprised if all this is part of the bigger plan to recolonise africa in a much subtle way, invisible to the common eye. the ingeniousness of white supremacy is astouding.
I am for, the YALI representatives learning something in the US, but let it not be the standard!!! Be creative in what you learn and not use it as a model. Besides what democracy can the US teach us, when we started these institutions.

    • Abena Kolwe,

That level of paranoia is what is typically found in text books of psychiatry.

Perhaps we should increase your dose of prozac.

I have heard of cynicism, but what you have takes it to a whole new level.

But please don’t stop watching your back.
I know the man who is helping you out with your wife.

    • Welcome baiche. Life here is fantastic! You will have problems going back to Kalingalinga after being in D.C for six weeks.

    • abena jelita na mulenga, am glad that you express such sentiments. it goes to show that people like myself who think and analyse things in the way we do are actually getting there. No great thoughts of change or innovation have gone through without this uphill battle for acceptance. There is the usual denial, ridicule, dismisal of evident truths until finally the idea is accepted.I just hope we wont slack this time like our forefathers did when the first white settlers came bearing gifts and trinkets of deceit in their right hand, promising good things while hiding the left hand which had the chains, picks and shovel to steal and rob. Americans/the West are capitalists, they dont give nothing for free otherwise they would be socialist or communist.Just ask yourself whats in it for them?

  1. Im 90% sure that most of them from zambia where not selected on merit. They are just wasting americans tax payers money just buying nickers for their show off. What a waste of funds, there are no rules in africa. Today they are followed the following day they are bent to suite the stituation. I just hope they learn something

    • Typical PHD.
These things are advertised in the paper you dont apply, when your friends apply and get picked you cry foul…Keep crying foul.
Its the same fontini mentality that calls people satanists when they are doing well.
Change for the better otherwise ukalalilafye foul lyonse.
My people refuse a poverty mindset otherwise you’ll die poor, shitting yourself in adult diapers, like our friend rooter.

    • A typical example to a person who cannot comprehend development opportunites. “enemies of development” is what my late father used to call such people. I just hope one day people like this will stop hating, get an education and become an achiever.
Keep in mind that, hating is confused admiration, so you’re welcome to join the winning team my friend…

  2. LT, where is the caption to go with the photo. As far as I am concerned, the photo was taken last year at your cousin’s wedding, and so has nothing to do with the YALI story.

    • We were 21, however there were only 4 internships offered to Zambia after the summit. So our colleagues are back to implement what we learned here.

  3. Granted that a lot of people are skeptical abot the YALI program, and the Zambian media has done nothing worth of note to capture the opportunity handed to Zambia to be part of such a prestigious event. (At least LT has made a mediocre attempt, better than nothing).
Its sad that most of the support and coverage Zambian YALI’s will get is from non-Zambian institutions. But even worse is that there are so many discouraging comments on this page, instead of encouraging us to attract financing and opportunities for all Zambians to enjoy.
I wish Zambia would take this opportunity to stand as one and push each other up so that more of us could be better off than we are now.
    ABENA ZAMBIA, Lets Unite…
