The Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) says the cry of the church mother bodies in the country has always been to meet the Head of State to discuss among other issues the constitution making process.

ZEC Secretary General Fr. Cleophas Lungu has told Qfm news that the church mother bodies have for a long time been waiting for an opportunity to have a cordial and honest dialogue with the President but that this has not happened to date.

Fr. Lungu laments that the church has not been able to have an opportunity to meet with the President especially in the absence of the new constitution.

He adds that the church wishes to meet with the Head of State and table the many issues affecting the Zambian people.

The ZEC Secretary General says while they have been able to meet with other organs and institutions of the government, the meeting with the holder of the highest office in the land will be key to the many pending issues.

Fr. Lungu states that the church will continue to pray in order to secure an opportunity to meet with the President.

    • The Catholic church should have apologised and not give people an impression of state engagement . Many Catholic priests and nuns have access to State House and most of them had several interactions with the President but they did not utilise the space to influence the President. The President talked about bringing the Catholic values of leadership to his role but did the Church help to define this or commit to seconding a Bishop or a Priest who would help make that happen? The Church has been reactive, most of the Church Mother bodies have met the Head of State but they chose to smile and pretend instead of using the moment to speak truth to power. The Church should not claim innocence – both the Catholic Church and the CCZ went public to push for a new leadership but abandoned the Presdo

  1. It’s a non stater. Deep down our hearts Mr Lungu we all know that prayer or no prayer, the man will never meet you over a new constitution. We do not need one under this functional one so he says.

  2. Matthew 25 Vs 31 – 46 the Lord Almighty shall only reward those who love and help others . Sata is using ten commandments to rule this country > i for one if this is what ten commandments imply the i can conclude that there is no God . sata used the church to win elections , now the church is useless to him ,even his brother in law Bishop T Mpundu is quiet . Ba shifwe go go forward ,one day the lord shall open the doors of State house for you . No retreat no surrender men and women of God .

  3. Here is a man who, when he was seeking the office he occupies today never missed an opportunity to meet with the clergy or indeed go to church. Today he doesn’t even want to hear the word “church” mentioned! When church leaders ask to meet him, his megaphones reply that it is not necessary for the president to meet anyone personally in order to prove he is “healthy and fit” Let us hope he and his ministers will not come flocking back to churches in 2016 to look for our votes again. We are watching you hypocrites.

    • For gross incompetence, failed leadership, grand lies and deception, looting, thieving and fraudulent lying look no further than the congolese in the North and their man, Sata.

And which of them can dispute these self evident facts. If so, try to leave a wallet or cell phone amoungst these people at a church gathering let alone a kitchen party or any event for even TWO minutes. It will be gone ; not stolen. Ati, natolafye….masholi!

    • The problem with the Catholics is that Bemba bishop you elected as your chairman. The man has divided loyalty and reports to MCS in the night. What can you dicuss with this arrogant President? Just pray for mother Zambia that God should not allow the man to stand again.

  4. First pray for a miracle that he comes out of hibernation. Only then can you now pray for God to grant that meeting. Remember the bible says you receive not because you ask amiss. How can you receive from God a prayer to meet the president when clearly in your heart you have doubt as to the state of His Excellency (whether he is ok or very sick)….. First pray for him to come out of hiding so that whatever it is that is keeping him away from his electorates God first can deal with that then you may proceed to your request of meeting with him.
