Former MMD Spokesperson Dora Siliya has charged that the former ruling party is dead.
Ms Siliya said the MMD will not go anywhere under the leadership of Dr Nevers Mumba.
She said Zambians have decided to forget about the MMD the same way they did to UNIP.
Ms Siliya who is also Petauke Central MP said the lost an opportunity to change leadership at a national convention which was going to take the party to the 2016 general election.
“In 2014, we had opportunity for a convention to prepare the party for 2016 and seek fresh mandate but some rejected our good intentions to rescue the party. What we wanted was to usher in a new leadership that would have been accountable to its members,” Ms Siliya said.
She added, “MMD not going anywhere, it will die just like UNIP. It’s a shame that unfortunately I don’t see the MMD bouncing back. The party is not going anywhere. It is a sad story and all those that were involved should take responsibility.”
“Confidence has been totally lost in the current MMD leadership. Let me say that he situation of MMD makes me sad, I get calls from everywhere and our members are saying the MMD is dead here even when I read the media I can see that the MMD is dead and this is the reality. There is a failure of leadership in MMD, we need to accept that and move on.”

Ms. Siliya said, “What is my personal way forward? I’m a Zambian, I’m a citizen, I’m 43 and am observing the political landscape I have a right to participate in political landscape of this country as I see it fit. At the moment, I’m observing and I would like to work with people on a common platform to give confidence especially to Zambian women and youth.
Ms Siliya said Zambians are looking for new energy and a common platform to bring Zambians from all persuasions together.
“There are people out there who are feeling that all these parties can’t bring Zambians together. These political parties are too closed up and the cadreism is not appealing to young people and women. Zambians are looking for a third energy.”
She said that it is shameful that after 50 years, Zambia is still falling to provide basic social amenities for its people purely due to poor leadership.
Ms. Siliya said this when she featured on a radio programme called Off the Cuff on Lusaka’s Pan Africa Radio.

I think she is right when she says ALL parties are closed up and too cadre centred. E.g UPND will keeping featuring HH in elections till he dies. PF will also continue featuring Sata in elections till he dies and it can be said for all the parties. MMD is the only one with a possibility of changing a presidential candidate. The true test will come if Nevers Mumba loses in 2016.
I’m looking for a party not built around an individual, but a mass of collective consensus and every presidential candidate should just be given one Shot, if you lose an election , that is game over for you and we give a chance to somebody else. Dora has been offered a ministerial job in the PF government. She will soon join PF once the negotiations have been completed and contract signed. She is being offered all her lost earnings since her seat was nullified plus a ministerial post. They want her to shape PF ‘s propaganda machine as a minister of information and broadcasting.
Dora is free to join any party of her choice.We in UPND do not reject people who want to join the party as long as they are not convicted criminals.
However for Dora Siliya, if comes to UPND, she will be encouraged to work in the back ground to avoid denting UPND ‘s image as her record in MMD government is without controversy.

MP’s term should be limited to 2 terms that way Zambia will have young progressive minds who will focus on moving the country forward and not on distractions. Can the madam list her accomplishments not titles in the constituency she represented, ministries and embassy. Are these calls part of the RB come back campaigns, if so a few questions for RB how has he helped and mentored the current leadership of MMD to fulfill whatever he is planning to use as a campaign message if he decides to take over the leadership of MMD. How will handle the defeat if he fails to win in 2016 if he decides to stand. How will he help to rebuild MMD after 2016 if he fails to win since this will be a second blow if he decides to stand. Dr Mumba has tried to rebuild the new MMD and he needs all the support .
The new MMD should also stop these politics of distractions with UPND and focus on issue based politics.
Another question for RB if he decides to stand in the 2016 elections, what will change with his corrupt ministers and MP’s, why should Zambia trust them again apart from the Zambians who have set their performance benchmarks very low by only comparing the old MMD with PF. A new MMD with new uncorrupt faces whether Dr Mumba or someone else after the MMD 2016 convention if the whole MMD membership feels Dr Mumba hasn’t performed , and mentored only on good values by the veterans in MMD is the only way forward. UPND needs serial killers like Dora so that this small party dies and leave the people of Southern Province to sigh a relief.
