LAZ condemns PF officials who stormed ZNBC newsroom to harass staff

Share

The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has added its voice to the condemnation of the actions of the three Patriotic Front Officials who stormed ZNBC newsroom to harass staff.

The Association says as a National Broadcaster it is the mandate of ZNBC to broadcast news relating to Zambians regardless of their political, cultural, religious, social or another affiliation.

The Association explains that the attempt to infringe on the said mandate of the institution is an abrogation of constitution rights to freedom of expression and restricts the flow of information to the public particularly in the wake of the upcoming presidential elections.

The Association observes that it is critical for the public to have access to information so that they (public) can evaluate stakeholders in the coming elections and make informed decisions.

“The Law Association of Zambia strongly condemns recent actions by Government and PF officials namely the Minister of Youth and Sports Honourable Chishimba Kambwili, Chongwe MP Sylvia Masebo and PF acting Deputy National Secretary Anthony Kasolo in attempting to interfere with the content of the news.”

The Association further notes that it is incorrect for the PF officials to say that the National Broadcaster should protect the ruling party and Government as that is not the mandate of the institution and that the assumption leads to misunderstand government’s role in the operations of the national broadcaster.

LAZ has since advised officials from the ruling party to separate issues of relating to their party to that of the nation and act accordingly.

This is contained in a statement released to the media by the Association.

  1. I think PF needs to issue a statement and disassociate itself from the acts of two foo..lish individuals who are bent on tarnishing the party’s name.

  2. Creatures like Kambwili can’t do without controversy, and the sooner PF let go of this fat fnck dunderhead the better.

  3. In a well function society, the trio would have relinquish their portfolios especially Kasolo and Scott, because (Scott)transfer him for a mission, remember information (news) is key in voters minds as we scrutinize these political parties.

    • Get your facts straight before you vomit your ignorance, there are two brothers named Kasolo and the one who is alleged to have stormed the studio is not the one appointed as PS and what has Scott got to do with this?

  4. Categories of bloggers on Lt,1)family forest in Zambian missions,2)family forest in Zambia,3)people benefiting from pf govt contracts ,4)political diehards,5)independents,6)intellectuals ,7)attention seekers, mushota.

  5. unfortunately thats the way politics are in Zambia.LAZ only support government of the day.most big positions in Laz are political appointments.they say you cant bite a finger that feeds you.LAZ should be independent under normal situation.

  6. Please employ professionals at ZNBC, this issue has been blow out of proportion.Everyone who has work in the media knows that, when a celebrity arrives at your studios or sensitive message is broadcast, you must have a plan in place to deal with your audiences reaction. It was very unprofessional to broadcast an item on Edgar Lungu before an Item on the acting president and make it appear like the acting president is of insignificance. Then again, instead of killing the story you start looking for sympathy and in so doing create unnecessary debate over an issue which would have died the very day.Now for your own information, with digital migration the broadcasting field would be leveled meaning you will lose your monopoly and such mediocrity would not be tolerated.Congrats to Kambwili,

  7. Don’t just condone, lawfully show us why those apes should be caged so that questions can be asked why the police are failing to do their duties in arresting them under public disorder? They are quick to arrest anyone with different views to them even going as far as trying to silence online bloggers but sit idle when ministers misbehave.

  8. Surely the Police should arrest these criminals. If it were the opposition who committed such criminal act they would been behind bars by now. Now I understand why the IG is thrown out every time there is change of government.
