UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) leader, Hakainde Hichilema has promised Zambians that he will improve the standard of living for the poor once elected as Republican president by implementing policies which favour the marginalised.

Mr Hichilema further pledged to reduce the cost of fertiliser to allow farmers increase their agricultural productivity which in turn would reduce the cost of the staple food.

Speaking when he featured on a local community radio station, KNC Radio in Kabwe yesterday, Mr Hichilema said one of his tasks once elected would be to ensure that the standard of living for the poor was improved through creation of jobs as well as provision of small loans to street vendors and other vulnerable people.

He emphasised the importance of paying farmers on time to allow them plant on time and that his government would also encourage the managing of water from streams to use it for irrigation purposes.

“As UPND, we have given ourselves to be servants of the people and not masters and our duty is to see to it that we improve the living standards for the poor,” Mr Hichilema said.

The UPND leader said he was the only credible leader who had a ‘heart’ for Zambians, especially the poor and unemployed, and maintained that it was possible to change the story of Zambia if the electorate gave him a mandate to manage their affairs.

Mr Hichilema said once elected, he would also reverse the 65-year retirement age to 55, saying it was one way of creating employment opportunities for the youth.

He pledged to address the cost of living, health system, education and cost of food, especially mealie meal which he said was not affordable to ordinary people.

Meanwhile, Mr Hichilema said he was a strong believer in the independence of the public media and wanted the institutions to operate without interference.

He also pledged to ensure that the Freedom of Information Bill was enacted into Law.

On the enactment of a new Constitution, Mr Hichilema said he would ensure that the country has a new Constitution before the 2016 general elections and to show his commitment he had since signed a social contract with the Grand Coalition.

Mr Hichilema said the Public Order Act (POA) should be properly managed to allow people express themselves, and that the UPND would repeal the negative NGO Act.

  1. Guy Scott is the future; black people cannot run a country; give us your companies; we shall hire u; pay u peanuts and make a killing of a profit when exporting minerals

    • Zambians beware of this father Christmas and his endless promises of freebies. Free education, free healthcare, everyone with uncontrollable street vending right anywhere you want, business and employment for every Zambian with high pay. Where will he get funds for all these freebies when ZCCM is long gone?

      Desperation is too dangerous sometimes.

    • HH represents the kind of president Zambia needs. He has a vision, to uplift the lives of poor people, and if you have listened to him objectively, he give very practical interventions of how this will achieved. Countrymen, for once let us elect someone who will help transform the enormous economic potential to reality

    • Seriously look at that pathetic podium and the crowd! If you are really asking me for my vote, at least have the courtesy to put a shade over me. And provide me with some refreshments while I listen to your manifesto! You are the one asking so why should you sit under a shade while I bake in the sun? Voters, you hold all the cards. Ask for tents and water next time some corrupt con-man wants yours ears and your votes. Have some dignity and standards for goodness sake my African people!

    • More lies from HH…Zambians are not foolish to believe the words of a known plunderer and accomplice of Chiluba in stealing state funds…what a real thief this man is..even today his evil ways continue by dealing with the likes of Zambeef a group of white satanists whom he supplies meat to.. Zambeef which is the most exploitative firm in Zambia’s history is funding HH’s campaign. When EL takes over come 2015 the likes of their fellow racists in the form of Guy Scott who has been secretly favoring Zambeef as a silent shareholder will be dealt a heavy blow. Abash HH (the worst dancer in Zambia’s history) and abash racist Zambeef.

      ********VIVA EDGAR LUNGU 2015***********

    • @ze begzod..mwana I know you are being sarcastic and are probably a fellow muntu like myself however should any bloody useless buga think come 2015 when our President EL takes the helm they will continue manipulating the economy of the nation they will be sadly mistaking. I personally will see to it no bloody useless buga continues to manipulate Zambians be they in Mopani, Lane Drilling, FQM, Barrick Gold, Zambeef, Amatheon, Zambia Sugar etc ..I will expose them and report them to the police so be warned you racist white supremists.. THIS IS AFRICA, THIS IS ZAMBIA BAF!KALA if you don’t like what i’ve said please go!

    • HH is more healthy than that sadist Edgar Lungu. Lungu is sick, I mean physically sick, AIDS or alcohol addiction or something chronicle.
Look HH can even dance for the crowd, not that sorrowful Lungu

    • HH is the President that Zambia needs, he is a simple, humble and intelligent man. What he is promising is deliverable. If only one has a heart for the people and the country those ideals can be achieved. Give him a try, its only 1 yr and a half till 2016. If he doesnt keep these promises vote him out in 2016. However I feel confident that he can deliver. It is upto us to decide to have a better country, others are developing, why shudn’t we

    • Dear Zambian, let me say the truth so that it sets me free. Iam one of the PF Cabinet Ministers and I have been moving with Edgar Lungu for 3 weeks now and I have never witnessed such a big embarrassment as one witnessed during the campaign launch for Edgar Lungu the PF President. To start with, Edgar Lungu annoyed a lot of PF High Ranking officials when he became so drunk with Mosi before addressing the meeting. The truth is Edgar Lungu failed to address the croud for he was too drunk for the job. Even me I have proved beyond doult that our man Edgar lungu is not a presidential material but just a door mat for the high court judges and Judge Chibesakunda in particular. Because of what happened at the rally, a lot of PF Members were toking of supporting HH or Miles Sampa.

    • A suvey by the Quick Annalysis Group have discovered that 85% of people criticizing HH are not registered voters or have lost either their NRC or Voter’s cards. And to the contrary the same people with no voters’cards support the PF President Edgar Lungu. However, 75% of HH are regisred voters in possession of NRC and Voters’ cards. So Edgar Lungu should be carefull with people and bloggers who support him, they are not registered voters but wolves. HH will win the 20th January elections just by 52% against Edgar Lungu’s 44%. A research by the Quick Analysis Group.

    • This definitely the man Zambia needs right now. HH has the right vision of what should be done to improve the situation of many Zambians from his personal experience.

HH has the acumen, and better understanding of how economic levers can be manipulated to creat an enabling environment for those who work hard to improve their situation.

HH believes the poor need to have access to free educaion anf free healthcare. These are things which are deliverable with proper resource management by cutting waste.

Incontrast, PF and Lungu believe that only top government officials and their relatives deserve free education and healthcare.

Currents most of their children are abroad studying for free by government paying their fees. Sata went around the world receiving expensive treatment for…

    • HH believes in helping the poor by providing free education and health care.

While the PF believe that only top PF officials and their relatives deserve free education and healthcare.

      Fact:

Sata and PF officials ‘s relatives continue to receive free education and health care because these services are still being paid by government not from their pockets.

Over 300 hundred relatives and children of PF officials are on free sponsored education abroad paid for by the government not out of their pockets.

Honestly folks, why should only the relatives and children of government officials have access to free education and free health care when every body pays taxes such as VAT, and sales tax to boost government coffers.

      PF is dishonest on freebies.

    • @The Saint

Are you in the UK or just using it as a pseudo location? If you are , then how are the conservatives getting things done parley?

HH will appoint 8 MPs from his pool and appoint the cabinet from UPND ,good MMD MPs and may be from repented PF MPs and work with these to restore sanity in our government. Thats QED.

Only people with small brains think HH ruling and delivering on pledges is Rocket science. Hell no it not.

    • We know he pays his workers peanuts and does not pay TAXES to ZRA ,so how will he do that.
He is a thief who sold the mines and victoria falls so he can build that Sun hotel for himself and his crooked friends.
The house he lives in kabulonga is a Ramcoz house.

Its laughable he wants to improve the lives of the poor
      after stealing from them .

    • I honestly believe that HH has fought a good battle. Long and hard but I also think that his time should be 2016 to allow him 2 full 5 year terms.
HH in Jan 2015 will work to his disadvantage. If HH really has Zambian national interest at heart he should consider the suggested national unity Govt which will have the constitution as the sole pledge for Zambians while stabilising the nation both socially and economically.
Zambia needs healing and Zambia needs to restore her international pride.
      Vote wisely in Jan 2015
      #VoteRBnafutiNafuti

    • We know in Zambia being Fat means being healthy but no so in reality. And AIDS Patients too can dance, no wonder we got ARVs. Honestly u wanna choose a leader based on the fact that he can dance on the stage and taking it as a sign that dancing means healthy? Oh..ok

    • HH is too painful to look at as a possible president, let alone listen to.He minds me of those semiliterate old politicians who’d promise an egg, sausage and bacon for breakfast in every home.

The kind of talk his hungry voters who gathered at welfare centres wanted to hear.Yet he had no idea of how many needed feeding, which farm would supply, how much it cost or where money would come from.Typical HH,from a kachema wa n’gombe to sensing a possibility of presidency.

Seems adrenaline has isolated his mouth from his brain. No argument the chap is a tight businessman, you could tell from his wornout shirts and shoes.State house is different.Sadly, not much option around.PF’s Lungu is a Kachasu chap and I resent everything RB stands for.Dr Mumba proved the best of this lot. Thanks to…

    • Meanwhile. .

Mansa has been set on fire again…Panji Kaunda is in town ,Hon Kalaba doing his thing on stage..it looks like Edgar is now unstopable. ……

And in the other camp HH is becoming more restless and more desperate. ….Zambians have now lost count of his promises. ….Does HH have people that can advise him or teach him how to lie……?

      Breaking news:
HH promises to vote for Edgar

      2015 vote PF ( Edgar )

      I thank you

    • 2020vision

      Come to Mansa right now……
It’s boostele. …Mansa batteries. …Spark batteries yayayaya I didn’t know this small town is so energetic…..and Edgar has just been energized getting on stage now…and I can even see some congolese in the crowd..remember Mansa is on 50 km from Congo…they all came to listen to the incoming President of Zambia

      2015 vote PF ( Edgar

      I thank you

  2. Look at what he has done to his shirt, We Zambians are not interested in a Freemason at Plot1 as we don’t know who they are. Being a Christian Country we shall only usher Christians into State house. Sorry HH you need to confess and delivered then we can open a new page otherwise forget it.
    cheers!

    • Viva HH. We do not want Edgar Lungu to take over our country with his corrupt team that promised more money in people’s pockets

    • @ Mwine you are actually the satanist and free mason not HH. You need to be delivered from those demons of falsities and tribalism that are using you. HH is a seventh day adventist Christian and its your late sata and MMD who tagged him that name just because he took over from Mazoka who was in free masonry for a short while before he left. Like him or not he is the God chosen 6th president of Zambia.

    • A satanist looking for votes in a christian nation.
He will never get the votes ,we know he is a devil worshiper.

      He is a freemason

How he got the cows he claims to have ,just google SUNNY
CHINTOMBWA .It will tell you how him and his father terrorised people of southern province and stole their animals.
His Dad a cattle rustler who died in prison in 2003.
His prison number is at monze prison.
How can a thief be president????

    • @mwinezed I have never seen a freemanson worshippihng God, the mansons detest christian gathering unless you confess to us that you are also a manson and meet with HH otherwise keep dreaming. viva HH.

    • I am not a UPND cadre, I just want to see Zambia get a gud president regardless of which party he comes from. I have looked at all the candidates and I see that HH makes the most sense and stability and progress. If it were upto me I wud give him the job.

    • wenzelu, on the right path with the name calling……simple adc…so back to politics, not mind games…..hurt mindgames…not cool just sayiing disappointed is the right word thot hota was on the right path…lol….or more lies…maybe alied with lungu just saying…wats the truth hh vs edgar am okay with anyone apart from thin stick, z comes first, but adgar<?? y sampa reasonable person wont take it too far, end it their….was always on the team, no? z neutral?

  3. Here we go again.. systems are already in place and all what is needed to make them work. Lets not fool around but tell the people what exactly makes you different from the previous “leaders”!!!!!

  4. Promise after promise.People,UPND’s house is not as intact as it seems.Have you noticed the absence of key lieutenants of upnd since hh launched his campaigns.Loser,Charles kakoma,(who lost to a fuel attendant),the vocal Cornelius Mweetwa and Garry Nkombo are nowhere to be seen or heard of.They have silently passed a vote of no confidence in hh.

    • @zamcab the field is ripe and vast you don’t expect everyone to move in one group don’t show your dullness online. I am one of HH’s lieutenants but am campaigning in Kabwe and Mkushi. Wake up and watch the space.

  5. @selfexpression
Give your facts the Church were he congregates and not where he goes to donate money for Political miles.

    • Even if he was a free mason does it matter? what is even free mason? Do you even understand what you are talking about? Why should ones religion matter? Leave matters of religion and spirituality to GOD, he is the only one who knows our hearts and who is genuine and who is a pretender. Not all who claim to be christian behave like christian. Some claim to be christian but are corrupt and do evil things.

  6. This is the Man we have been waiting for. We have our Vote. Call relatives don’t just blog, I have called my 31 relatives, I have also asked them to take at least two people with them. HH, HH, HH

    • @Carrs, you are right! call home, call mama and papa, call brothers and sisters, call cousins call friends back home. Give them the good news. HH
Haisa Haisa, Hobola Hobola, Habwela Habwela, Harrival Harrival of the the man HH

    • @7 carr………… You ve made my day. Ati this is the man you have been waitin for, keep on waitin lets see where it lands you. As for the promises, fyabufi ulabeja ka HH naiwe, why did you kill poor zambians through your corrupt privatisation if you had their interest at heart.

  7. At least HH has given us his agenda for Zambia, can someone please give us what Lungu said or is he campainging on the Late Sata `s legacy. If that is the case then Zambians its high time they opened there eyes and stoped voting on tribal lines but instead vote for HH with a vision for this country. Its so hurting to see how people can decide to vote on tribal lines without considering what someone can offer when elected.

  8. Bwana HH Zambia has the 3rd largest Chinese population in Africa @100k Chinese.Start by expelling 1/4 of those especially the small traders and farmers competing with our poor trade people.

  9. My advice to you dear presidential aspirants. No matter what you do to gain a vote,DO NOT MAKE PROMISES.Especially if it may take a lifetime to change.PLease ,please, please, do not make many promises .Learn from the current Govt.”Cheat a cow to a poor man and he will not sleep”goes a wise

  10. I wonder hw he managed to propose to his wife, the man has no sweet talk,no charisma watsoeva, yes u hav always been sayin u’ll improve our lives,bt tell me how, wats ur plan? Wat is it dat pf is nat doin dat u’ll do?

  11. Viva HH!! I have listened to several of your speeches. Let say that you have made a lot of sense! And it would be the first that we put in office someone who finally understands how the economy of a country works.
Therefore, I am going to trust you to run my country’s economy! Give this man your vote if you love Zambia.

  12. Electing a president to preside over 14million Souls in Zambia is not an undertaking we can trivialize .Its not a tribal contest like a football match were you can say Bembas+Nyanja stand one side and Tongas +Lozis+Kaonde+Luvales stand this side no. Those who are supporting Lungu are in tribal contest even when they Lungu has no qualities to president. Those who attended Lungu’s rally in Kitwe can not say what Lungu said ,The whole rally was a sham like Village beer garden. HH means well, he has a vision and wants to Unite Zambians while he improving the economy.I rest my case Zambians its up to decide your destine. Like Sata said cry for yourselves not me. HH is already rich its up to you . I know HH will make it this time, we can’t be so dull to make a wise judgment.

  13. Cheap politicians are freaking dangerous! Here you have this morron promising loans to street vendors he used to loathe. Why is he embracing them when he was the one complaining that MCS made the streets dirty? He’s a real starnyako this Harss Hole (HH) musula

  14. Zambians never cease to amaze me. They complained about how incompetent Nsanda was at RDA, Chishimba Kabwili at sports, Katema as information minister, but today they want them back in Government running the affairs f the nation.
look at HH very educated and smart business wise. Ati no we want EL. Lungu has a record of stealing from clients and problems with alcohol ati awe we want EL. Do we have smart people in Zambia? if we do, then vote for HH. If I was in Zambia I would have voted for HH.

  15. Do not use the name of God so as to cover your evil mind. Amazing how you can waste time discussing what religion someone belongs to as if that determines a person’s credibility, morality or competency. Kafupi was a Christian and he made a fake declaration that Zambia was a Christian Nation while going on rampage to steal. In Ruanda Christians murdered people who were seeking their protection in churches. Frank, a tribally charged Priest and leader of a Political Party is the king pin of a divisive and exclusionist political agenda. Ordinarily Christians are supposed to stand with the marginalized.

  16. I won’t vote, I can’t see anything tangible in all these candidates. HH is making promises as those made before independence.Lungu is sickly,no material.Next,please.. GBM ,he campaigns in Bemba.. Sampa.. comment reserved.

    • @ Chatasha: But how can u vote wen u dont have a voter’s card? I know u pesonally u are not a registered voter. Please bloggers, let those with voters card comment and not commenting any how wen u know u wont vote.

  17. ITS TRUE LET HH BE SUPPROTED AND HELPED BY HIS TRUE MINISTERS WHO ARE REALLY MEMBERS OF UPND PARTY OR ARE THEY STANDING AT THE FENCE OF THE PARTY TO ENDORSE COVENIENTLY

IF NOT WHY NOT CHANGE HIM WITH A BOY HE SPONSORED AT UNZA FROM A DISDAVANTAGED FAMILY WHO IS SUPPOSSED TO BE HELPING MATTER AND YOU THE GARY PLAYER ,GARY NKOMBO

ALTHOUGH HH MAY NOT WIN AN ELECTION WE NEED THIS SORT OF CAMPAIGNS TO ENSURE ASSEMETRY IN THE POLICIES AND COMPAIGNS LETS SUPPORT HIM

LUNGU HAS DEFINETLY HAS WON BY LANDSLIDE AND ITS IMPORTANT TO ASSESS YOURSELF FEARLY FACTUALLY AND WITH REASONABLE FACTS ON THE GROUND ACCROSS THE COUNTRY

LETS SEE WHO ARE TRUE UPND NOW AND AVOID…

  18. KIKIKI ati free education!!This man is so desparate to rule with his tribalists who said UPND can only be led by a tonga.PF has shown maturity by electing EL.All bembas are supporting Edgar Lungu unlike Tongas who vowed to support only a tonga. This is why we tell that some tongas are not good coz they just want their own.If u read facebook comments u’ll find all tongas are supporting UPND.U can’t understand these chaps.Iwe this party come january 20th will be #3.Rb will still come second and UPND 3 at 16%.I can assure that that PF will get more than 50% votes. All those who voted for MMD in luapula, northern, muchinga,CB,Lusaka, central, eastern will vote PF.Mind u HH can’t change anything coz we’ll use the same registor of 2011.it’s not easy to change millions of pipo hearts within 3…

  19. What has he done to his shirt this Under 5 boy scout? Today the morron wants to embrace street vendors he was loathing when MCS was at the helm? Loans to street vendors? what’s the logic? a dull baffoon indeed. Beware, cheap politicians are dangerous

  20. I have been a staunch PF supporter until the day Sata was interred. The trouble that ensued following the burial made me to realize that PF has nothing to offer to the people of Zambia beyond man of action. The choosing of successor was marred with pangas and death threats. Yesterday I accompanied the launch of PF campaign; was so disappointed with the way the leader failed to address the public. Finally I was forced to forget about PF and now I am on Loan to UPND

    • Everyone has a right to freedom of choice! And you my dear has just exercised that right. may others exercise their right without interference too, after all in the end we all “reap what we sow” as individuals.

  21. iam really imprested with hh he gives achievable promises reinstate nurses ,give free education from grade one to university remove wage freeze remove employment freeze create employment for the youth bring people driven constitution before 2016 recognise paramount chitimukulu of the bemba shortly after elections pay farmers in time and talk to them so they know what to plant reduce the prize of fertilizer so that its affordable by all peasant farmers mining in the central province ya yah so many achievable things which the other beer man cannot see you talk only sata legacy hopeless give burseries to students of high learning and give them their meal allowances in time what is difficult

    • Hi. I am not trying to speak against him or degrade him, No. but a promise of “free education from G1 to Univ.” is a bit of an overkill, don’t get me wrong it is achievable. some countries have achieved it though non of an african country has. So he is able to do better than any african leader who ever ruled, than any Asian government that ever ruled, than an american president who ever ruled? He is a very superior leader indeed! he promises what no one else of his background has ever achieved. Again don’t get me wrong, it is achievable. And it can be quiet a great thing if at all achieves this, honestly Universities in Zambia will flood with students because so many could’nt make it there because of funds. and this is more reason why, again, we need more universities built as PF has…

  22. Just part of some article i found:

Mr Hichilema’s father was called Mr Chintombwa, and the name Hichilema allegedly comes from his maternal grandfather in whose household he was raised.

“We understand that Mr Hichilema’s father had some brushes with the law. We also need him to tell the public what it was and why he changed his name.

  23. Fellow Zambians, Zambia is a democratic country in as far as holding free and fair ections is concerned and this is a plus. Let’s go a step further now and vote for presidents on merit and not in regional blocks. By all standards, HH is a much better choice than EL. First of all, look at how EL and his stooges have bahaved so far; they have literally usurped the party presidency in a very undemocratic way and were ready to crush anyone who stood in their way. How can a lawyer have no regard for the rule of law? They have involved themselves in all sorts of illegalities that are very shocking to a fair mind, eg the consent judgement.
Secondly EL definitely looks unhealthy and we have all seen this.
Thirdly, there are a lot of questions about EL’s character. Please Zambians, vote wisely.

  24. Please also tell us what will happen if you loose this election that will make it the fourth time now? This will help us guage your principles

  25. I told you before that Edgar is a product of society’s rejects , failures, the corrupt and goog-for-nothing opportunists. No sensible and discerning Zambian would choose to embarrass the nation again. We have a serious son of the soil Hakainde and if we seek for economic redemption, let’s go for him. I plead.

  26. HH is jst a useless Tonga who stole frm poor zambians and sent Sam to an early grave no wonder he doesn’t smile cz hs past haunts him.

    • Check for the dictionary meaning of the word: “useless.” HH doesn’t fit that description. You are just frustrated, it would seem. There is still a long day ahead. Spare yourself further heartaches.

  27. HH has the momentum. The wind is blowing his way. His message resonates. It makes sense. PF has no road map as yet. Their campaign message is sporadic and confused.

  28. Alarming! I just did a quick check on LT and noticed that none of us here may be able to vote because of current domicile i.e. if the flags/location system works. So no matter how loud you insult your influence on choosing the President is not as vital as poor villagers in Chama. They vote based on their most pressing needs which could be a chitenge and or bag of mealie meal. We create false hopes on blogs like we matter! the Question is how many people that care enough to vote read blogs? Wrong campaign tool to determine popularity and even stress each other. The few in Zed that have access to blogs are “too busy and important” to brave sun or rain to vote. Notice that this election is in rainy season? All the best opposition parties on blogs. I am booking my flight now to go and vote

  30. While we are making these promises, let me make my own. If you elect Nyau as president, I promise to make Saturday and Sunday into 30-hour days. I will tweak the rotation of the earth just so. More rest for you 😉
