South Africa loss a lesson to Zambia – Shinde

Share

Ex-Zambia international midfielder Jericho Shinde says Chipolopolo’s loss to South Africa in a friendly match on Sunday was an eye opener to Honour Janza’s side
.
Bafana Bafana defeated Zambia 1-0 at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg as the two nations warmed up for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations that starts on 17 January in Equatorial Guinea.

In an interview in Kitwe on Monday, Shinde said the friendly match has given Zambia a glimpse of what to expect at the Africa Cup.

“We must take negatives and positives from this loss. I believe that game has given our technical bench and everyone involved an insight of what to expect in Equatorial Guinea,” the Nkana legend said.

Zambia had beaten South Africa in the two sides last meetings before Sunday’s defeat in Soweto.

“South Africa is not a small team, they are playing good football these days and our side is not bad,” Shinde said.

He added:”We have to rally behind the boys. Good luck to the team as they go to the Africa Cup.”

  1. This is true and we must not take game for granted that we are the best. Sometimes you win that is the game of the foot ball.
Its like what PF is thinking that they are the best players in governance when they have not yet realized their own mistakes in their 3 years governance. If Lungu says we will do all what Sata did, one thing they are forgetting is that Sata was not the best player throughout the country is that what he termed to work on in 90 days he never fulfilled hence is the cry for substitution by farmers, unemployed youths, civil servants, the sick, people who use electricity with its blackouts, miner’s job protection, mealiemill inflated prices etc. The couch are the citizen and they will speak on 20 Jan.

    • come on man,.we are talkn abt socar here, why do you av to bring in the issue of politics???? By the way Sata, our late president is one of the two best presidents we av ever had so far [SATA nd MWANAWASA],.Do not make fool of yourself by thinking that it’s so simple to av a president like the two dat I mentiond above..HH is a businessman nd to these kind of pipo their main objective z to make money..

  2. What a waste of taxpayers money.Hospitals don’t have medicines and equipment, schools lack text books and we are busy wasting money on a useless team.

  3. South Africa and Zambia are rivals. South Africans hate Zambians because we gave them a tough game in the past. Remember that not all days a Mondays. Now we are scared of the South Africans because they play good football.

    • I live in South Africa and can confidently say South Africans dont hate Zambians. A few of them may but most of them revere Zambia

  4. Ba Jericho, well spoken. You are a man that can still contribute a lot to zambian football. To be honest, I never liked you in your p,suing days because you played for a team that was a rival to the one I supported. Your good football really hurt my club, but I respect you for the contributions you made to the country.nif you did not have that knee injury, you could have gone very far. God bless!!!

  5. You win a game of football by defending well and scoring more goals than your opponents. Those are the basics of the game. What is playing well if you fail to score? Nobody cares about playing well. What matters is winning through scoring goals. You cannot still be on a learning curve two weeks before the tournament; it means you are not ready and you are just going to the event to make numbers. As for South Africa, Bafana Bafana have improved alot under coach Mashaba. They will be the team to watch at Afcon 2015. As for Zambia I wish the team well but I have my own serious doubts about them going far in the tournament.

  6. The team has no coach. If we are ambitious I dont think we need an average coach. To win AFCON you need a special coach.

  7. “Russian Tanker” the man! We miss you Ba Jericho. Those were the days our football was on top. @Zambian, you must be Ba Power or Wanderers! Rokana, Nkana all the way!

  8. This is the time when the only thing we can do as Zambians is to hope for a miracle at the AFCON tournament. Ba Janza has a good team, but the coaching bench has failed tactically to come up with a system that can bring goals for Mother Zambia. We have the players, but ba Coach kwati tabali sana tactical mwe!!! Am sorry to say this, but I feel its the truth. We hope for the best anyway, especially a miracle before we are called surprise champions again…

  9. I remember Tunisia coming to Zambia on their way to South Africa for the 1996 Afcon. We beat them 2-0 at Woodlands stadium in a warm up match but ended up losing 4-2 in the quarter finals a few weeks later.

Friendlies are a good way to gauge players match fitness, physical fitness levels, concentration etc. Although they may be indicative of a team’s preparedness, they play a bigger role in making an overall assessment of the players
