Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General Davies Chama says President Edgar Lunga has a ruling mandate of up 2019 according to the party’s constitution.

He said President Lungu was elected through a general conference held by the party in 2014 which gave him the authority to run the party until 2019.

ZANIS reports that the PF Secretary General explained that according to the Republican constitution the country will go for a general election next year in 2016 where President Lungu will stand on the PF ticket as his mandate is still valid untill 2019.

Speaking when he visited Katete Patriotic Front members at the Council Chamber today, Mr Chama stated that anyone with presidential ambitions of standing on the Patriotic Front ticket in 2016 should wait until President Lungus’ team in office comes to an end in 2019.

Mr. Chama emphasized that those aspiring to stand as presidents of the Patriotic Front should wait untill 2019 when the party goes for a general conference to elect new leadership.

The Secretary General further urged all members of the party to campaign vigorously and grow numbers.

He challenged the party in the district to recruit members with national registration cards as an assurance of numbers of eligible voters of the party.

He explained that other parties where doing well in elections because they had been recruiting members who are registered voters.

Mr. Chama stated that the party was happy about its performance in Katete district adding for the first time the PF had managed to dominate the once strong hold of the opposition Movement for Multi Party Democracy (MMD).

He however appealed to the party members and leaders to use the current developmental projects that the ruling party had embarked on as encouragement to campaign more.

In response to the challenges expressed by Katete PF Chairperson Duma Joseph Makukula, Mr Chama challenged them to first grow in numbers for them to be strengthened with materials and finances.

He encouraged all members of the party to embrace each other despite their past shortcomings.

Meanwhile, Katete District PF Chairperson Duma Joseph Makukula pleaded with the party Secretary General to give the district a motor vehicle for smooth and swift mobilisation of members.

Mr Makukula said the PF in the district has a great challenge of finances and transport which are vital to the growth of the party.

He stated that the general public in the district was happy with the development the district has seen in the short period President Lungu has been in office.

He however expressed concerns over the delayed completion of some projects in some areas.

Mr. Makukula has since appealed to the government to quickly finish the projects in the district as the party risks being de-campaigned if the projects are not completed by 2016.

    • Certainly most MPS can forget about party nomination for a new mandate to Mandarin hill. The country want ECL to move the country forward with the right team of shakers and movers.

    • but if u ask chama what his sole candidate has done to continue ruling he chama knows nothing he wants pipo to vote for lungu so that his stomach can continue kukuta advise him to be open

    • Who cares? am comfortable in my own home working for myself..alandetelapo ubunga pakuti mbe concerned. namgufye 2070 kuti afisha…

    • Anyway, whatever Mr.Chama says, Lungu is not presidential material. The man has no presence, lacks confidence and always appears lost.

    • The fact of the matter is that, Edgar Lungu was not democratically elected in 2014, but through the unilateral way of lifting hands up.

The juggernaut worse off of PF is that, it was the executive committee which did, but PF cadres lifted their hands & imposed Lungu! The PF constitution was breached contingently, hence failures of respecting the tenets of democracy & rule of law.

Unfortunately the non democratic imposed Lungu by PF cadres by lifting their hands like year 1s choosing a class monitor, “won” the Presidential elections. Before hand, confusion & violence of PF cadres was at its epic, opposition parties were brutalized to the core of violence.

The economy & kwacha are still in limbo!

    • That is if his health does not fail him before 2016. For me I would rather he goes to rest on medical grounds so that he takes care of himself and does not strain himself and worsen his condition.

Fact of the matter is that he has no capacity to lead this great Nation to higher heights. How should he allow RB a useless corrupt old man to rule as if we voted for him, No we voted RB out for a reason

    • What are you talking about cadre? “Senior Citizen” using different names, just go back to Zambia and engage into something worthwhile. I can not for the life of me understand why you would leave zambia just to engage in mindless praises of politicians abroad, ati twikala ku USA! What a joker!

  1. Subject to his health status. We have seen signs already just weeks after being sworn-in. We know about that throat cancer that took him to SA. We should not forget about or rather ignore such serious issues for Presidential candidates.

    • there you go again do you have any other presidential candidate within the PF? Because it can”t be from anywhere else ,sorry

  2. I have nothing against President ECL and I am not a politician but I love my country and the people of Zambia. So Ba Chama stop that song please! Look at the best interest of the nation. Consider what this country has witnessed before. At least let’s not pick people whose ailments are obvious please. Zambia is not short of people to take up the Presidency. President Lungu has already shown signs of ill health. So let him retire! with that good presidential retirement package, he is likely to live longer if he retires. But For him to continue under the pressure of that office for another five years may accelerate his ill health. I hope God will give President Lungu and his wife wisdom to voluntarily quit while things are still not too bad. Learn from the past and it may preserve you

    • If you want ECL to voluntarily quit for under five to rule, then you are a naked coward. Just campaign hard so that he loses on merit. Your hope for God to give ECL the spirit of fearing death is un-Christian and I as a PF fanatic I say no to that. We forced him to stand and we voted for him. We shall force him to stand again, vote for him to rule until 2021 when he will hand over to another PF Presidential candidate. If you want to cry please go ahead & cry out loudly. PF is the best thing that has happened to Zambia’s development. MMD has joined PF. When (Eastern Province) leaves PF, N/Western province will take its place, then Western, & then southern province until PF takes over upnd, coz by that time the under five will have become the youngest ward chairman in Zambian.

    • @joy phiri ,democracy is not always the best, sometimes especially after what the PF went through before the last elections, they need to just be firm on such time consuming debates ..we are looking for developmental projects with no excuses…

  3. bt im concerned with upnd do they for convertion? since i came to know their presidential candidate they have been a party nomination

  4. My comment is that if Zambians still want Edgar Lungu and they think he will move the country forward, they will surely vote for him. He will also lose if they fill he is not fit. So it is not any issue to discuss anyway. This Chama is simply right. End of story.

  5. I support national secretary Chama, debate on Edgar Lungu for 2016 is not necessary. Let the debate start after 2019 or even later – who knows may this guy will just the face of this country

    • Okey seriously what value is Lungu adding to the Party and its Govt. Mwe bantu lets be real. my take on this is that Lungu should go and take care of his health and let those with viosn and passion for this country stire the Country forward

  6. the PF is happy with its leadership ,if anyone has issues with that they should know party channels of expressing displeasure otherwise we will term you as undp..hard luck ifintu ni lungu

  7. What Chama has stated is a purely party (PF) matter. So Lungu will stand on the PF ticket next year unless some people in PF will fight his candidature. In the final analysis Zambian voters will decide who the next president will be. So non-PF members should not have sleepless nights over this issue.

  8. The person who is going to jearpodise LUNGU’s candidature in 2016 is CHAMA himself. If only he can stop just vuvuzellaring, then PF will have a smooth ride in 2016. It is the more reason now some parties in the opposition have started ganging up, because CHAMA is at no good for LUNGU. For most of us we find lungu as a good candidate because of his approach to mst of the country’s econom. But Chama is like rying to ask other of his colleagues to challenge him, and that is what he is actually doing, period. This is clear to some of us who are able to read in between lines. If lungu is intelligent enough, he should check on CHAMA’s intetions.
