Zambia battle Flames in friendly fire

Zambia on Sunday host old rivals Malawi in a friendly at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

The meeting will be the two sides first since July, 2012 when Malawi beat Zambia 1-0 in a friendly in Blantyre.

Malawi have travelled to Lusaka with a home-based team while Zambia will have six high profile players who include Rainford Kalaba, Felix Katongo and Nathan Sinkala.

However, Zambia coach Honour Janza said games against The Flames have always been fierce local derbies.

“Malawi is not an easy team. It is unfortunate that they have rarely appeared at big tournaments like the AFCON,” Janza said.

“But traditionally Malawi is a strong team of local players and you should remember most of their players who are in South Africa play in the first XI at clubs there.”

The two sides have played each other 69 games since the pre-independence days with Zambia raking in 36 wins against 16 defeats.

“We always have difficulties playing Malawi. Culturally and our football is almost similar. Facing Malawi is most of the times is difficult,” Janza said whose current record in charge stands at five wins, five draws and three defeats

  1. Zambia is going NOWHERE….Galu & Co organising friendlies on the cheap…its always the same thing every year…its no surprise we are dropping on the FIFA Ranking Table as we play very weak teams.

    • @Stephen, who told you you qualify to be human? You think Janza reads your comments? If you want to attack him then email him at FAZ, you know where to find him.

  2. Ba LT, I like your heading to this article: it shows someone really put some good thought to the task.
