Mighty thump Nkana in Copperbelt derby showdown

Mighty Mufulira Wanderers have thumped their long-time rivals Nkana 2-0 in a FAZ Super Division match played at Shinde Stadium in Mufulira on Saturday.

This was the first Super Division meeting between Kalampa and Mighty since 2002 when Wanderers were demoted for the first time.

Second half goals from Warren Kunda and late substitute Brian “Adebayor” Ambungeni propelled Mighty to victory in this Week 14
match.

After a goalless first half, Kunda stunned his old club Nkana with goal in the first minute of the second half before Ambungeni sealed the win on the nick of full time.

The win has pushed Mighty into fifth place on the table with 21 points from 14 games while Nkana remain stuck on 17 points garnered from 14 games.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Nchanga Rangers escaped from Arthur Davies Stadium with a 1-1 draw against Power Dynamos.

Nchanga led with a 44th minute goal by Spencer Ngalande that was cancelled by Kelvin Mubanga just seconds after the break.

At Dola Hill Grounds in Ndola, Forest Rangers ghosted into second place after recording their fifth straight victory following a 2-1 home win over Green Eagles.

    • I know why you are asking the silly question. As an African you have a black inferiority complex. You would prefer an african player calls himself “Beckham” “Platini” or “Gentile” (white people’s names) rather than name himself after another african. This comes from black hate. You hate your own skin soo much you dont see anything positive about it. so you think why should anyone call himself Adebayor? That is what causes xenophobic violence in South Africa where there are white foreigners that dont get killed in xenophobic attacks. • The guy still calls himself Ambungeni Why accuse him of dropping his name for Adebayor? By the way it isn’t a brand. its a name. no Zambian sportsman has ever branded himself as all of us can testify when we enter shops

  1. Thank God this team supported by thugs and illiterates has been wired. Can’t wait for it to be relegated.God is answering our prayers

  2. Mighty were clearly the better side the day. They controlled the midfield and were worthy winners. Their defence was rock solid with the inclusion of the new defender from DRC
