Share

hhakaindeThe United Party for National Development, UPND, says it has embarked on the party strengthening programme in readiness for the 2011 general elections.

UPND spokesperson, Charles Kakoma, said the party is confident of winning the elections in view of the ambitious programmes it is currently executing.

Mr. Kakoma said among the programmes of strengthening the party, was a membership recruitment drive ahead of the polls.

He told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today, that with the recruitment of more members the party would strengthen its performance in the next elections.

He also said the party would soon embark on a nationwide tour of its presidential aspirant, Hakainde Hichilema, as a measure of enhancing his popularity ahead of the elections.

The UPND spokesperson said the opposition party has also started reorganizing the party youths to enhance their participation in elections.

    • HH, is a tribal stamp who came on tribal vision.Sata has unconcealed tribal bigotry and sold his candidacy on that.Remeber his unscattered attack on late Mwanawasa calling a minority tribe illegitimate to rule. As if that was not enough, he went national in Luapula and Northern that the Task force was an anti-Bemba the saturday after 2006 election which wa on Friday, the two Chungus, Chibanda, Chiluba, Fostine Kabwe,Francis Kaunda would all be free.He pledged to send Chungu a plane to bring him back.Meanwhile, MMD is the only centrist national party with support in all diversity.Breaking that myth for these parties traditionally tribal is wishiful thinking.Yes MMD is headed for victory again

  1. I guess MMD will win again. Why are politicians so blind. For the last 3-4 elections its been the same scenario.UPND will stand, PF will stand and obviosly Miyanda will stand-I forget the name of his party.not forgeting FDD( ba fididi) Until the opposition unite we are in for the MMD circus till kingdom come.

    • and have you ever bothered to ask why? I’ll answer you.Believe it or nto,. Zambia is still very much tribal.

    • Herbalist, Going by your name ,can you do something about this spook called tribal politics .Please we have been haunted for a long time and yet we have a herbalist amidst us

    • That question is synonymous with pipo without direction in society. If you are a true Zambian, you would be more concerned with constructive efforts to develop your country. You are a let down and a retrogressive person indeed.

    • Kaoma must be one of those Zambians from Zambezi who don’t know the difference between KapijimPanga and mUSI o Tunya. He has no chance in living hell to associate with Tongas. He would have been better off with Lozis above all.

  2. Leave them coz they are just wasting their precious time. We want people who are always there for through thin and thick.

  3. bob doe, big no man. its a party exclusively for Tongas coz if you are not Tonga then no progress for you.

    • Please do not become tribal. Kakoma is not Tonga. There are a lot of non Tongas in UPND. Let us debate issues as Zambians and not Tongas Lozis, Bembas etc

    • ba Rashid Jones, kanshi you are also a primite minion???? what a waste of space you are! How many Kaondes or Lozis are in PF! typical bush minds….the resources used to educate you should have been used to put street lights in Lusaka, it could have been better.

    • hmmmm whose looking dull now. Rashid can contribute more to development than those street lights you have never had in Lusaka since…… Clever people ask questions, dull people follow blindly like cadres. I have learnt something today by asking a so called foolish tribal question, you on the other hand haven’t but instead have been condescending on people you don’t even know.

    • he he he he in” your Zambia” indeed…..you see what propanganda does, you have been mislead to the extent of thinking that you own Zambia he he he he you are laughable!!!!

  4. FYI If HH doesn’t win the 2011 polls he is stepping down for someone else to take ova. Watch and learn how a true leader behaves.

  5. shimuchita panono, Its good that you have just confirmed that this is not an issue. alot needs to be done in UPND. why is it only popular in Southern province? that explains everything

    • PF just campaigned in these provinces in the last election and see how close they were in wining the election. This is despite those tribal tags that people in these other provinces have been preaching. It is our responsibility to ensure that deserving people enter state house regardless of tribe. You and me must champion this cause.Let us not waste time preaching tribalism on the blog.

    • if those you like win, then its deserving….if others win then its tribal….kwena eeeeh! If the whole Luapula votes for Sata, they are being patriotic, if the whole Estern votes for RB its tribal he he he he.

  6. Engine Bbuloko, im not a PF suppoter but SATA and im not a cadre. I believe in hard work, why should someone be reaping where he didnt sow

  7. He started PF on his own and look at what it is now. He is always there for Zambian people. He really monitors what is going on in government. now tell me what HH has done apart from destroying what Mazoka built.

  8. In the first place, you are Tonga so i think your arguments are baseless. Let non Tonga tell me something good about Hakaivotela Humwine.

    • Ba Rashid, you are disgrace to us Zambians who are no Tongas! Tell me what Sata has done in the past 40 years of his political life that is worth mentioning. You are sure Sata is better than RB? You say he is man of the poeple, which people? Kaponyas? We are where we are in Zambia because of poeple like you, you can’t distinguish performance from rhetoric, shame! If you really believe Sata can do better than RB, you should rush to the nearest mental hospital and have a seriouscheck up.

    • Now you are really exposing your shalowness, so if one is Tonga then their arguments are baseless….how silly. I dont blame you, you grew up being cheated that your grouping is superior than others….even with your little exposure that got you to bots(from your flag), you have not outgrown your childhoop propaganda. Obby Mambwe has a point…..dont skip your appointment with the mental hospital..

  9. Many of you die hard P. F sympathisers were telling HH to go for 2011 and leave SATA for 2008! I believe you meant well not because Sata is Bemba, but you took into account his deminishing ege. What has changed guys now? We will see who the real tribalist are in 2011.

HH please do be discouraged we are behingd you..Its time for young leaders Check MADAGASCER.

    • Ndine, spot on!! Let the kaponyas continue supporting their chief kaponya. If they think they will have it ease in 2011 with their chief kaponya as their candidate they will be in for it!

  10. I realize that each time UPND is mentioned, someone always brings up a tribal tag. Is there really a tribal problem with UPND as a party? Or Is the problem with the current party leader – for what he stands for or the process he came thru to be the leader? Otherwise what has he done really that makes some people so bitter about him & the UPND?

    • Sata begun the tribal thing when he was trying to scare Zambians from Mazoka. He tried it even with RB also by labelling him tribal the moment he was adopted by MMD. We know these tricks….whites have been using race to scare voters from black candidates in USA untill the younger generation said no. The folly of Zambia is that the younger generation cant see beyound the politics of fear and hatred that the old folks have served them as daily bread!!!! I have blood relations who are Bemba others Ngoni, others Luvale and a mixed tribe myself and love our diversity in Zed….but some fellas like Rashid Jones…they need help!

    • NO, NO DONT BLAME HH FOR ANYTHING. This tribal nonsense started just when Mazoka formed UPND. It’s just by a few backward Bembas like SATA. Sata started this whole nonsense in 1998/99 during the polls left vacant by late Alfeyo Hambayi. It’s only dull guys who fail to under stand the demographics of political strongHOLDS. Worldwide every political party has it’s stronghold.

    • Am happy there is another blogger who knows facts as I know them! Actually, what made me stop and look at UPND and its Mazoka then was the tribal shouts from Sata. Lo and behold, what did I see, a well meaning Engineer and experienced manager who despite a having a job that was paying him more than Bill Clinton, he still forged with others (Saki, Chisanga,Sichiinga etc) to help Zambia.

    • Twachula, this is what people like Rashid fail to realise. Their man, Sata, started this whole tribal thing on Mazoka. In any case he’s the chief tribalist himself, look at the poeple that surround him! Shame!

  11. Obbby Mambwe, the truth pains, isnt it? Why are you annoyed? just go ahead and vote either for RB or HH. I respect your opinion and if you dont respect mine, thus ok with me but its good that im not a kaponya but really believe and trust Sata and no one will ever change that. All the best man

    • Rashid, what truth! Iam not annoyed and I never get annoyed withy people like you, it’s a waste of time and nergey. What I don’t like is poeple distorting facts to satisfy their egos.

  12. Zambians one day will know the great importance of voting in very learned, knowledgeble and skilful leaders to uplift their living standards,so its about time to know that we in criss needs HH’s knowledgeble skills to create wealthy for THE NATION.I know very few pipo can appreciete the fact that we are poor and as such the country must invest in quality education not making noise even when you know that SATA has NO proper education background ..

    • my man, point on! if we think we dont education to run our country, why then did the country “waste” a lot of money educating us????? is this a brainer really!!!!

  13. Kaya mudala what wrong people see in the guy. It looks like most of these chaps who shout the tribal gong are allergic to sucess!

    • Bwana LCC, am sure people here can tell the difference between you and your tribal propaganda and what am stating above. Typical of the PF cadre mentallity!

  14. Understand chizungu please, i didnt say that if one is Tonga then thier arguments are baseless. I ment you as an individual(engine Bbuloko). Dont worry coz 2011 is just aeter next year and we will see where each one of us stands. dont be bitter, just make your opion stright

    • 2011 has nothing to do with my life. I have led my life and achieved what I have without any political assistance in anyway. So it wont change anything regardless of who wins in 2011. Am just concerned for the poor masses who need political solutions. Come to think about? why am I wasting time discussing with a person like you who thinks, for all his chequred past, Sata is still the one to redeem Zambia? I actually have more respect for those who voted for RB than Sata!

    • Yangu kabili ba Engine, You are discussing because you are concerned. I salute you for that. We are looking for a way forward. Politics are part of progress of the country… With an achiever like you how do we move forward as a nation politician or not we are all affected by who is and will be in power.

    • Onkaz, sorry I missed the chance to respond to you, I got to something else. We will chat some other time on another thread…

  15. I can sense some “Tongaphobia” on this thread. Some comments like those from Rashid Jones & Engine Bbuloko are quite interesting to read though.

    • Nine Chale, I was just having a run-in with one Rashid Jones! I have relatives from Northen, Central, Easten, Western, Southern and have not seen anything wrong with any of them as a people. But to have some one vomit crap like this bro did chisses me off! With the diverse tribal mix in my family, its difficult to watch someone pull tribal slars on here…

    • hela bro, am never up in arms, I actually blog while chilling but some fellas need a bit of facts to erase their deep seated misconceptions of life and others.

  16. I am worried for Mother Zambia. My worry is not for HH `s inability to revive the UPND, nor is my worry for Sata `s failure to understand that his political tactics are not for this century , they served well in the past. This is not my worry. My greatest worry , is the fear that I see in Zambians, Fear for change, fear to do things out of the ordinary, fear to see beyond Sata ,HH, Miyanda and Nyama soya(RB) This is my real worry.

    • For sure you are a wiseman. Why are we always afraid of change? Zambians lets wake up and face reality for once. We need a complete overhaul in our politics. African politics have failed because individuals selfshiness. We idolize individuals too much.

    • You are right bro Zambian , We Idolize /Worship individuals too much to a point of allowing them to spit sputum in our hands as an alternative for a sink. This is how sickening we can be

  17. Wanzelu, if you are not annoyed, then why all the abisive language? You support HH and i respect your choice but i have not seen anything good in HH that can make me go for him. the man is just too ndwi for a President, let him wake up and face realities. His boasting about education and riches will not take him anywhere believe you me.

  18. Engine Bbuloko, there you go again. Youare not poor(proudness). Its not about being poor or rich my friend. Ok, its fine let us the poor support our fellow poor guy and you THE RICH support your rich guy as well. I rest my case, God bless you all. Goodnight

  19. Wanzelu is not true Zambian…pls leave Zambia 4 Zambians…..THE FACT is HH has all it takes to rule this COUNTRY…not you day dreams…go back to Zaire..

    • What are insinuating my friend? Probably am more Zambian you are. I agree with you though, the young man can do better than these time wasters like Sata and RB.

  20. Im not a tribal person because if anything, 80% of my associates are Tongas and i tell them these things.

  21. Rashid Jones…is lost in our COUNTRY Zambia, let him go to bed…or else he has misled his children and his old aged political Man of no education background at all to motivate us youths

  22. HH is an intelligent guy and speaks alot of sense, but the guy lacks charisma to connect with people. And in Zambia its a trait that one requires in order to connect with the not so illiterate citizens who are the majority of voters. I wish him well!

  23. The problem with you young Zambians, is that you have no vision. You keep on arguing mostly on baseless grounds. It does not matter whether one comes from the South,East,North,West of the country,we are all Zambians, its one Zambia one Nation. In this century, we have to wake up and look @ someone who can deliver without looking @ tribe.Zambia now needs development,we are tired of being an underdeveloped country with vast resources due to poor management.Young men and ladies, get an example from U.S obama. So lets analyze our 2011 candidates and make wise decisions not based on tribe but on articulation of real issues and not on character assassination. Is it HH or RB or Sata, Vote wisely.

    • ba Don/Lecturere, you have said well BUT be precise, of the three, HH, RB or Sata which one in your opinion is better for Zambia????? I wont forget the 2001 elections when most Lecturers were point blank on their opinions … that time AKM was the sole choice for the intelligentia….so go on who?????

    • UNZA DON, You have spoken very have candidly and your clarity is admirable indeed. As a young person I have a problem with the three individuals that you suggest we pick from. Why is it so ? They have serious skeletons of the past in their closets to deal with before they can have a national appeal. HH ,yes he is the youngest of the aspirants, yet he has , failed and reduced the UPND from the strongest opposition party that it once was .Sata, yes has replaced UPND in the opposition camp yet his tine is long gone.As for RB the farm is waiting . We need change ,major problem is 2011 is near by. TRIBAL Inclination is a big demon in Zambia that require exorcising

    • Hell not Cosmo nor Siulapwa!! We need principled peopled and not people who are driven by vengeance even before they are in power and not forgetting seem to spend most of the time hallucinating.

  24. Please people, the point here is HH is young and educated.Sata has experiance, these political party needs to merge.believe me MMD will win if this wont happen.I agree with a bloger thats us Zambian fail to see the future beyond RB,Sata and HH.Remember the world has now changes,so we must change with it.

    • Interesting how the world over, Countries are going for the young and educated: USA – Obama 47yrs Haverd Educated, Thailand PM around 40 – Oxford educated, Tanzania is now being tauted as the new economic success for Africa – Kikwete and Zambia….hhhhhmmmmm kaya man!

  25. wise man,

I gave the three, HH,RB and sata as an example or rather options because those are the ones we have that are known very much @ the moment, unless otherwise ba wise man I don’t know. Can you please kindly give me the other options apart from the above mentioned. Be wise.

    • Thanx UNZA DON, Firstly let me mention this my blogging name is wiseman-reborn. There is someone who uses wiseman to cause confusion. This is besides the point. I do not ascribe to the notion of multiple political parties . What we have now is enough that is MMD, UPND, PF.As I mentioned above ,Individuals are not synonym of Political parties . In UPND there are credible persons just like in PF the same applies for MMD.Sata is not alone in PF , HH is not alone in UPND and RB is not alone in MMD. Let sata relinquish his desire for state house and supportf a young person in PF ,likewise RB .For HH, to avoid the tribal tag, He can pick some one else for the sake of consolidating the party

    • UNZA DON , Obama arose from a well established party whose existence may be older than Obama. He did not need to have formed his own party. Our situation may not be similar but we can simulate that path

  26. I have no problem with HH sata is tooo old now that ship has long sailed, he’ll be 75 or so then, and serioiusly to vote for him ninshi kaya chabe. But anyway, firstly let not tonga people behave like indeed there is no tribal affiliation when it comes to voting for UPND, any intelligent person can not that, however its not uncommon even in the USA some black people voted for obama just because he was black and they thought he would help black people, so its really about what HH does to show us that he is there for Zambia as a whole, pay visits to the chitimukulu’s, mpezeni’s and other regions let all the zambians know u and decide, i don’t think villagers are too shallow to reason

  27. What is wrong with HH starting up his 2011 startegic campaigns? PF cardres tell your Sata to start also if he wants ! Why all this tribal NOSENSE talk that can only bring hatrate amongst ourselves! It pains some of us who have married from other tribes to hear some tribes condemning other tribes as if they are the only recognised people in Zambia!. We are one Zambia one Nation guys.Old politics of hatrate must be abolished in ZAMBIA.I think 2011 should bring in some fresh breath in the political areana like what has happened in the USA.No more race ,no more tribe e.t.c but lets reason beyond that.
    God help us.

  28. It´s a pity that Zambian politics is still haunted by tribal lines still after sum 40 plus yrs after been under our own rule.People still wanna get bribes that would last a day or two and still vote em in big tym failures cos on tribal lines. There can never be a United States of Africa if there is still total chaos on matters as such in a country as Zambia, which claims to be a christian nation and a peace heaven.Open up your earings with overstanding and be wise…vote wise cos your vote counts

  29. HH is impressive. I have had the opportunity to have a discusion with him. The man oozes with ideas. He is really a 21st century leader compared to all the comeback retirees we have now.

  30. Its aparent frm some beging coments that some chaps really belong to the recycle binn.I am an educated Tonga and i support HH not because he is Tonga BUT because he is evidently clever and gives hope not some of these characters admired for their kaponya manerisms or coz they subscribe to the nichekeleko syndrome.Until we begin to think like the americans,we shall continue walloping and compalining.Parade all these so caled presidential material and let there be a debate on real issues that can solve the current economic crisis, unless you are full of cobwebs upstares, you will realise HH is some seroious material.Sometimes i think he shub stop and enjoy his money and let this madnes continu

    • Believe me, at the moment, the ONLY party leader who can agree to a debate with others is HH and the reason is simple! . Even PF or MMD supporters would NEVER like the idea of a debate among HH, RB and Sata and they know why. But as it were, when it comes to critical thinking and decision making, for most people, its kaya kaya!!!

  31. ALL FO US ARE IN OF BETTER LIVING STANDARD SO AS OUR CHILDREN OF OUR CHILDREN,NO DOULTS WE HAVE TO ADQUATELT PREPARE FOR YOUNG ONES’ FUTURE,SERIOUSLY IT S OUR DUTY TO ELECT WELL QUALIFIED,RESPONSIBLE AND SKILFUL LEADER TO LEAD THE COUNTRY FORWARD AND H.H IS VERY CAPABLE TO DELIVER US TO BETTER ECONOMY.

  32. I agree with you 47 Bull my bro. In Muf where I grew up, during the elections a close person to me, who is tonga stood as an MP and everybody would say tulefwaya umwaushi. The same people cry foul when a tonga is voted for in Southern pronvince. The only solution is to perhaps make Zed a federal state and let each provinvce produce and govern itself under one Federal govt. We are really not serious about what kind of country we would want to biuld for our children. People on the copperbelt and some areas vote without brains man. They are the ones who vote for the useless leadership we now have.

    • wehere did you leave my bro. ine mu Sikalangwe, i was at Muf (Mafucane). I remember bashi Kalusha campaigning at our School in the Quadraangle. He would go like “ine nine wishi wakwa Benjamin na Kalusha”, and before he goes on, we would go like mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. There would be all UNIPIST fighting for one sit, Kaunda Lembalemba, Benjamin Bwalya Snr, a Mr Lunda (very old man).

    • Chitimukulu mdala wandi. My father was a teacher at Muf high and I did grade 8-9 there. I was classmates with Chongo Bwalya and he is still a very good buddy of mine now.

  33. “UPND spokesperson, Charles Kakoma, said the party is confident of winning the elections in view of the ambitious programmes it is currently executing” It is still wishiful thinking for one single opposition party to usurp power from the MMD. Those ambitious programmes should embrace opposition parties coalition. The coalition talks and signing of pacts should start now and not after the elections. Sata and Hakainde start sleeping on the same bed now, tomorrow may be your chance to rule as President and and Vice President. Vice President position may be seen to be a rubber stamp position today. Zambia change the constitution and let there be Prime Minister position so power can be shared.

  34. Please forget about these retirees, let them go and rest. Shame on you and me who are still recycling leaders even if they have mismanaged our resources in the past like sata. I would rather choose Rb than mc sata. We need a young man who can sit on the net and look for market for our zambian products like HH. The man has wisdom, he is not a noise maker , he talks with substance. He is an example of success as an individual. Vote wisely we have suffered indeed under the old like sata and Banda.

  35. Very interesting that people have freedom to open their mouths and utter such words as they please, it is all good,.
Change has been over-due in this our greater nation Zambia. I am surely voting wisely and voting for change in 2011 and every well meaning and thinking Zambian shall look beyond these narrow and shallow minded debates on tribal lines. Dont care where or which tribe change will hail from as long as it is desirable change. we shall not continue being underdeveloped because people who have the power to lead zambia and develop it are of a so stigmatised tribe.

Vote for change and vote wisely, I know some people lack wisdom but pray that the Lord will give you temporal wisdom in the few minutes that you will be casting that ballot!.
