The Immigration Department have arrested 21 illegal immigrants of different nationalities in Lusaka and Copperbelt provinces for various offences.
Immigration Department Public Relations Officer Mulako Mbangweta said the foreign nationals of different nationalities were arrested in two separate operations by the department.
Ms. Mbangweta told ZANIS in Lusaka today that among the 21 that were arrested are Malians, Guineans, and Senegalese who were found in possession of forged letters purported to have been issued by the department.
And in a related incident Ms. Mbangweta said the department has arrested six Congolese nationals for illegal entry and stay in the country while one Somali national was also arrested for masquerading as a refugee.
She said another prominent Tanzanian business man identified as Edward Mbinda 41 was arrested for illegal stay in the country.
Ms. Mbangweta said all the suspects are currently under detention pending prosecution from the law enforcers.
And the Immigration Department Spokesperson revealed that a Zimbabwean man that was arrested last December for illegal entrance into the country has finally had his case concluded.
Ms. Mbangweta said the Zimbabwean national Sean Hailley was fined a total of K 2, 160 million or face six months imprisonment with hard labour.
In a related development Ms. Mbangweta said another foreign national of British origin Ronald Stanley has been fined a total of K 400, 000 for giving false information to an immigration officer.
She however said both Mr. Hailley and Mr. Stanley is still under detention pending deportation upon payment of the fine to the department.
Ms. Mbangweta has since commended Zambians for reporting suspected illegal immigrants adding that Zambians should continue being vigilant and patriotic in order to rid the country of illegal immigrants.
And in Mongu , Police have arrested a 27year old man of Katuya compound in Senanga district for being in possession of prohibited articles.
Western province police commanding officer Vael Muzwenga told ZAINS in an interview that Lyamupu Imakando was arrested over the weekend at a named guesthouse.
Mr. Muzwenga said the accused was found with a G3 military gun serial 5203 and a short gun.
The police chief said the Lyamupu was also being pursued by Senanga police for swindling a Somalian national of K 15.2 million.
He said Lyamupu swindled the Somalian man of his money when he was contracted to buy him cattle in Choma district.

Hope they are finger printing these illegals b4 they are deported. And all those overstaying their visa should barred from entering Zambia again for not less than 5 years if they overstay more than 180 days; to be barred not less than 10 years if they overstay more than a year. Every country has theses similar rules and we should put them into practice, maybe difficult to implement but that should not be the excuse not to safe guard the country.
