President Rupiah Banda Commisions an MRI Scanner at UTH

Share

President Rupiah Banda has launched the 10.5 billion Kwacha Magnetic Resonance Imaging -MRI- scanner and the Computerised Tomography at the Cancer diseases Hospital.

Speaking when he launched the state of the art equipment at the University teaching hospital –UTH- in Lusaka tuesday, Mr. Banda said the new machinery is a great achievement for the health sector and the people of Zambia.

President Banda said since the installation of the equipment in July this year, 157 patients have gone through the MRI scanner, while 596 patients have had CT scans done.

The President also said government has put in place procedures to ensure that those who can not pay for the MRI or CT scans are still given treatment.

And giving a vote of thanks, UTH Senior Mdical Superitendant Lackson kasonka said the MRI was a major missing link in the medical field.

Dr Kasonka said the country has skilled man power but needed tools like the MRI and CT scanners to complement the work of medical personnel.

  1. Your greatest challenge remains that while this defunct Horse-Rider pact is busy insulting and dancing to the deluded hate crusade of those fanatical agents of imperialism at the tabloid, the incumbent party is tenaciously delivering multi-million kwacha capital projects around the country. In your delusions you think these are nothing to Zambians but your menu of insults for the votes. To this you believe the hyperventilation of some embattled tabloid online and their prohibitively expensive cosmopolitan circulations is a game changer in a national constituency. You pact chaps have lamentably failed to par RB and his administration on what Zambians want.

  2. Instead of intelligently countering RB’s record of National Development, you think being petty like uneducated politician is good for your pact? You are cheating yourselves that being petty against the kind of indelible Grandscale national level developmental projects will do you good. Daily you insult chiefs, demean the ila people for their culture of respect and love, demean and oppose the completion of Namwala-Choma road, completed billion kwacha Chongwe District hospital, The under construction M8 Mutanda-Chavuma, Chipata-Mfuwe Road, Mongu-Kalabo-Angola Road, Schools, completed hospitals and bridges coming up both, Mchinji-Nkala-Malawi railway to mention but a few.

  3. HH with all your education you have chosen to be petty like Sata too with:

-RB to commission K10bn scan at cancer hospital

-K970 million court complex construction begins in Zambezi

Meanwhile, Government has opened up tenders for the construction of the Zambezi-Chavuma road.
The district commissioner said the construction works on the M8 were progressing well with the opening of tenders.

  4. -Due to sound policies SEPA is investing K600m in banana plantation

SAVE Environment and People Agency (SEPA) is investing K600 million for the banana plantation in Zambezi District to be managed by 625 women.

-Pro food security policies: Chingola gets 10 000 fertiliser bags

CHINGOLA has received more than 10, 000 bags of basal and top dressing
fertilizer for the 2010-2011 farming season. The fertiliser has been received under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) and a similar amount is being awaited.

  5. – ZAMBIA Food Security Outlook Update (USAID)

Projected food security conditions remain good due to good harvest
Most parts of the country have remained food secure with only very few areas of concern. Currently the food security in the areas of concern is stable as households are consuming what was harvested and are accessing food from surplus areas.

You have to beat this to be taken serious and not just perfecting in the art of insults and useless alignments of Horse-Rider pacts.

  6. Why is it that Rupiah launches everything in Zambia? If he is not launching something he is on the road. He has nothing to do. Think of Obama doing stuff like that, not even our CEO for a company net value of $10 billion opens branches like that, very interesting character!

  7. I think as Zambians we need to be constructive when we criticise let us criticise only when necessary. In this case I think people deserve a pat on their back. I think its great RB launched this facility. This is a milestone and if it is utilised could save a lot of costs for the government as people will no longer have to go abroad for MRI’s as this can be done in Zambia. It should receive support from every Zambian. I will say though I am sure it will be expensive treatment but I hope there is a way government can subsidise the price of using it for most zambians to be able to access it. I would like to congratulate RB and all involved in making this facility available.

  8. #1 & #2, do you PF lumpens have to criticize everything? You may hate RB with a passion but credit where it is due. Since 2008, the man has delivered more development projects than even late Levy did in 7yrs! You lumpens are $hitting in your pants because the common man will appreciate these roads, schools & hospitals instead of your daily insults and propaganda. Abash illiterate savage lumpens (Sata, Nsanda, Mushili, GBM, Kambwili), viva RB, viva progress!

  9. It is interesting that the Govt has spent only K40billion in the past 3 years on construction of permanent health institutions but intends to spend over K300billion on mobile hospitals in 1 year. Priorities indeed!

  10. OK thanx RB but that is Late LPM’s project. When are you launching your useless mobile clinic /hospital project ?
LPM gunned it down and you have gone ahead to procure those facilities. Which roads will you use you Exellency to operate those services ? Our road infra-structure could have been priority b4 procuring that nonsense. Learn to listen to the out cry of the masses. That Kafupi chap is just misleading you to dig your own grave. The earlier you get it the better bcoz Kafupi has nothing visible now to boast about.

  11. These are developments centred on His Excellency RB. Thanks for the first level Hospital his excellency. I am sure more hospitals will be developed in the course of RB reign. What else can we demand when we are all able to see developments by this listening Government?

  12. Oh oh MRI Scanner commissioned yesterday, today it is Chawama hospital. H.E.R.B. is in the news for all the right reasons, when he is not meeting his people to guide and encourage them he is commissioning a developmental project, not the same with some so called leaders.
This cannot be good news for Sata and his Veep HH.

  13. 15, MMD has kept true to their 2008 election promise. Just to remind you, the campaign promise was “Continuity with Change”. They have not flip flopped like one Micheal Chilufya Sata does every day. He no longer talks about his “90 days and more money in your pockets”, it served its time and nearly succeeded in cheating voters but now with passage of time the voters have come to their senses. His supporters are like lost sheep now, no new campaign slogan because he has a thought block.

  14. For those of you in the dark, MRI is not medicine nor do you use it any how. so few diseases need MRI scans. while its important to have such especially at the cancer center, lets have in mind real time statistics of life threatening diseases that are more acute than chronic. Yes cancer is mainly chronic and unfortunately most cancers even if they are detected early, treatment is just costly. so the best is to equip ourselves with a plethora of chemotherapeutics as more people need to get such. The major cancer that is eating zedians nowadays is cervical cancer which can be detected by a far much cheaper cervical swab. no need of an MRI. MRI mainly for those parts of the body not accessible from the outside such as the brain. and chest for lung tumors. so lets not be very happy for this!ok

  15. What is the minister there for. Do we need a head of state to commission hospital equipment. Let us be serious please!!

  16. Way to go on this one MMD. I bet it is the only one in ZED and atleast we might save alot of kwachas to SA travels just for MRI scans. #1 and give constructive feedback and thumbs up for # 12

  17. Kudos to the government for investing in medical equipment! The ongoing of district hospitals and rural health centres should also be accelerated. One important thing though that seems to have neglected is staffing in these facilities. More staff need to be recruited.

  18. Seeing that this is the first such equipment in Zambia I see no problem with the president launching its use. Also, whether we like it or not, the president in Zambia unlike other heads of states such as the British queen is a political animal and it would be surprising indeed if he were not to play to the gallery with such developments. Sata would do the same if he was president. Why should the ruling party not publicise its achievements in the same way that the opposition should publicise it’s failures?

  19. RB has no shame! Health Minister(or better still, the Hospital Director) should be the one launching this service! So if a group of Hospitals I work for decides to donate some equipment to say, Kasama Hospital, RB will have to rush to Kasama to commission them? This is old fashioned way of thinking. Please ba RB, get some good advisers…….
Alos, this is not going to stop RB for going to SA for an MRI scan on his knee…. You also need to introduce PACs in Zambia please. If you need help, i am your man!

  20. This is wonderful for Zambian trained Doctors. These imaging modalities are standard of care in all developed nations and their absence makes it impossible for cancers and other pathologies to be diagnosed or ruled out. I would saytothe President, make such things priorities and not necessarily political tools for they literrally have reduced mortality due to many conditions when used appropriately. I would also urge him to have a plan for thei maintenance and for staff to be trained for this will be even more costly than the purchase.

  21. he should have had his head scanned as a way of commissioning it, with his peculiar behavior, this man comes across as one with a head trauma patient!!

  22. he should have had his head scanned as a way of commissioning it, with his peculiar behavior, this man comes across as a head trauma patient!!

  23. Let me begin w/a disclosure, I am an independent zambian and do not belong to any political party. Lets call a spade a spade, old man RB has been kicking on all cylinders the last few weeks & gaining surging momentum to the polls while the opposition is caught in squables. Grandpa is commissioning hospitals left, right & center. Mealie-meal prices are down, inflation is down, kwacha is trading positively, Mobile hospitals will soon be in town, Stadium infrastructre is going on, foreigners are flocking to Zambia and the list goes on. RB will use all these developments in his campaign(who would’nt). The opposition on the other hand need to campaign on the premise of what their five year plan is in a very clear and concise way. personal attacks and squables will not do them any good.

  24. They have had all those scanners at UTH before, they always break down and no one to repair them.
Who is talking about foreigners flocking to zambia? It is completely useless, lets talk about how an average teacher or policeman or nurse lives pa z. No dignity, no NOTHING. So use your brain and THINK.
