Two Zambian women nabbed for drug trafficking

Share

Two Zambian women have been arrested in Pakistan and South Africa for drug trafficking, the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has said.

DEC spokesperson, John Nyawali said in a Press statement yesterday that, Christine Musonda Banda, 35, was arrested at Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Islamabad after she was found carrying 860 grammes of heroine concealed in her pedicure brushes.

He said Banda, a resident of Libala Stage one in Lusaka, was arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Force during a routine check-in process as she was about to go to Mozambique on an Emirates Airline flight.

She was detained at a prison in Rawalpindi waiting for her case to be concluded.
Mr Nyawali said Banda was believed to have sourced the drugs from Afghanistan.

And a 24-year-old woman has been arrested in South Africa for trafficking in 332 grammes of heroin.

Mr Nyawali said Catherine Mukala was arrested at Oliver Tambo International Airport on her arrival from Pakistan.

He said Mukala had swallowed the heroin as a mode of concealment.
Mr Nyawali said this brings the number of Zambian women arrested abroad for drug trafficking in the last two years to 47 out of which, four have since died in different Asian prisons.

He appealed to Zambians to take advantage of this year’s commemoration of the International Women’s Day to denounce the increasing cases of women drug traffickers and reflect on finding solutions to the growing problem.

Mr Nyawali also said 59 people were arrested countrywide in the last seven days for trafficking in different quantities of cannabis with a total weight of 1.5 tonnes.

  1. I think GRZ should turn a blind eye on these two so that Pakistan authorities deal with them firmly to deter future trafficking.

  2. What’s happening to our sisters? Why not engage in regular makwebo, buying goods from China and Dubai like so many others successfully do? Alas, the love of a quick buck is driving our sisters to the edge and they are landing themselves in serious hot soup. One thing we all need to realise is that there’s nothing like a free lunch in this world and what goes around will always come around.

  3. uko,Bembas & John Phiri’s thirsty for quick money-kulibonesha. work hard and use yr brains not just yaping..!

  4. 10 hours ago on a non related topic I was stating how 99-100% of crimes committed abroad are by Bemba women, visitation coming even without my thinking or prompting it. The passport says Zambia so authorities around the globe will think all our women are shifty. I know alot of great Bemba women; these few are tarnishing your names have your famous insaka talks with them. We can teach them with the wisdom of the east but because of democracy and respect of our mbuyaz will let your elders speak to them first. My prayers for them and their families.

  5. #7 Mwanawakwitu you are a funny guy and agree with you these Bembas need lot of talking to their women. They are lazy and they always want to pull a quick one all the time. But don’t get me wrong Bemba people are the sweetest people to be around with. They are smart, giving and all good things except stealing or smuggling drugs.

  6. Until Zambian women change their mentality about foreign guys they wont change.they are always easy prey for any foreign chaps

  7. @ Google phiri I know hahahahahaha. My collection Bemba friends is expansive, but they need to do serious soul searching amongst their women this has now become ridiculous. It’s not spite but truth that every time a drug deal goes amiss involving a Zambian abroad, she is of Bemba origin it just buffles me. Pretty soon the world will view Bemba women as second to nigerians is scandalous behavior.

@ Chills well spoken too many Zambian female are inferiority complex infused in relation to foreign men.

  8. # 9 chills, exactly my point ,these women they think that a foreigner has got more money, how come only zambian women are involved, its some how not possible for a zambian/southern african woman to sell drugs, i blame u.s.e l.e.ss nigerians for all this, if our govt does not act our reputation will be dented, i hate nigerians look at what they are doing to our country, so RB will say these are investors.Nigerian should be kicked out of zambia before its too late.

  9. Bembas are now teaching easterners on how to trafficking. Bembas you have embarrassed us international you lazybones. get yourself a life, suckers. I can imagine how it feels to insert a drug in your private p.a.r.t. dirt Bembas.

  10. looks like zambian women are very easy to use as transporters of narcotics. All in the name of driving a rav4.

  11. #6 tends to view the world from a tribal point of view. Pity that the world is bigger and better than any one tribe. Certain tribes are so exclusive that they cant be entrusted with ruling the country. I hope education will liberate us from sectarianism.

  12. “Concealed in her pedicure brushes”…what does this mean? I hope it is not in the tunnel of love they are beginging to deep these drugs into.

  13. you willl hear some iiddiiotest say its bcos of MMD and RB. even when a policeman tosses a teargas on a crowd that has broken the law ati ba MMD. even when a lozi bum tries to set a gas station ablaze ati ba MMD

  14. Nigerians will never send there women instead they will send zambians to do so.They tell these girls ,that am going to make u a big woman and marry u.Stupid dull women think lts true.Let me tell u women a Nigerian man will never marry a foreign woman unless u have money.what’s wrong with u girls.

  15. The Zambian authorities should strongly consider issuing seperate passports for BEMBAs that are stamped potential criminal- exercise extra caution or simply ban BEMBAs from having passports. As Zambians, we cannot afford to have our good name tarnished by one tribe that is lazy & refuses to make an honest living. Day in -Day out its the same tribe in the news media commiting scams & crimes, enough of this nonsense.

  16. OUR WOMEN PLS DO NOT BE CHEATED, DRUG MONEY OR ANY MONEY OBTAINED THRU DUBIOUS MEANS, WILL WITHER LIKE MIST–BELIEVE ME. YOU CAN START WHERE YOU ARE NOW WITH WHAT YOU HAVE, LOOK AROUND THERE IS A LOT YOU CAN DO.

DECIDE WHAT WANT TO BE,ACTIVATE ON HOW YOU WILL ACHIEVE YOUR DREAM,AVOID CHIMANSO MANSO JUST BE FOCUSED AND YOU WILL BE THEIR.
Quick money is always dangerous and not worth a risk—— pang’ono pag’ono
God bless you all the WOMEN OF ZAMBIA as you celebrate your DAY!!!!

  17. Men have failed in their duties, they prefer to be drunks that is why women are going out of their way to earn a living. Do not judge.

  18. Buchushi ebulenga.i hope other women has now learn.ulunkumbwa lu la letelela. jk.chaliwama ukutobela katapa iyamunsansa.

  19. Nigerian guys on the streets are the cause. Then we have naive girls who after watching those nigerians movies believe every word that these Nigerian Pushers say.End result, they are caught and the Nigerian disappears in thin air..sad.

  20. Ha ha ha i guess us bemba`s are hated for being smart.Who likes a smart person anyway.lol..Hate the game not the prayer.

  21. It is a pity that Zambian women are now being used as drug mules. I feel pity for the one who was caught in Pakistan. She is as good as dead. At least the one caught in South Africa will be released after serving a jail term. In the meantime Zambia’s name is slowly being tarnished. Do not be surprised if next time around South Africa will require Zambians to have visas to enter the country.

  22. not everyone who carries a passport that says Zambian is indeed an indigenous Zambian, I have met west africans in the US, Canada, Middle East, and the EU with Zambian passports with bemba, luvale kaonde names…etc…. that they bought from immigration officers for a fee of only 200- 250 US dollars!
Stop insulting one tribe you are all niggas on the same boat!

  23. Pakistan and other asian states will never ever free drug traffickers. That one with the heroine shall hang and that’s actual and factual. Contrary to what Nubian Princess is shamelesly stating #22, ladies shouldn’t just sit back and wait for their husbands to provide. We live in a modern dispensation where both parties should strive hard to deliver and achieve. And even in the event that people have nothing, they shouldn’t rush to doing the wrong. Crime, in whatever form is wrong.

  24. The drug dealers are using our women as “Mules”, the same drug dealers inform the drug authorities at the airports so that the other drug carriers on the plane get a chance to go through.

  25. Many of em grew up watching their mums being clobbered by their ‘dads’. (also lived side by side with S.African, T’zanians, M’lawians & Kasaai neighbours who never seem to fight)..BUT Zedian dads were against their wives working nd daughters goin to school! Now these women ve waken up to the reality that ‘Tujilijili Guys’ r not husband material, n sellin chikanda not an option so they try to take things in their hands. Sadly the wrong way, many with no adequate education nor business skills but falls prey to criminals with dodgy ‘deals’. Educate the women n the whole ov Zed about the real dangers of drug trafficking!
It’s not an easy life if dad wasn’t a ‘Billionaire’ n u grew up strugglin more than thos whos parents ve stolen from the poor. But ey the monie is sweet,..yours…

  26. PAKISTAN IS NOT THE KIND OF PLACE TO BE FOUND EVEN WORSE ARRESTED AND SENT TO JAIL.SURELY THAT WOMAN IS IN HELL ON EARTH. SHE WILL ROT!

  27. These women nivi mahule chabe. You are better of trading on the streets of Lusaka as prostitutes that putting the drugs in your private parts. Shame, ninzelu za doti ezi cheki this outu.

  28. Bembas..Bembas…Bembas!! When are these people going to stop disgracing ZED. They want to get rich overnight!! These crooks,RB please consider banishing them to Zaire where they came from.

  29. Bamwine # 37 how do you say a sweet is tastless when you choose to eat sweets with a plastic in your mouth?

  30. I have been browsing on-line greater than three hours lately, yet I by no means found any interesting article like yours. It is lovely price sufficient for me. In my opinion, if all web owners and bloggers made good content material as you did, the net shall be a lot more useful than ever before.

  31. I am not sure the place you’re getting your information, but good topic. I needs to spend a while learning much more or figuring out more. Thanks for magnificent info I used to be on the lookout for this info for my mission.
