Investor confidence guaranteed observes Magande

Share

National Movement for Progress Party president Ng’andu Magande has lashed out at some sections of society stating that the reversal of the ZAMTEL sale will bring about economic uncertainty.

Mr. Magande says stakeholders should not be scared of a decision that can result in Zambia benefiting through transparent ways of doing business.

He says if the decision to reverse the sale of ZAMTEL was done in good faith, then the action should be supported.

He notes that Zambia should not be desperate for investment even when transactions are fraudulent.

Mr. Magande tells QFM in an interview that he hopes the decision to reverse the sale of ZAMTEL has been made in national interest.

He has since advised the Zambian government to put in place a team that will carry the vision forward in as far as advanced technology is concerned.

  1. Good Spirit and welldone Magande. You are right on this issue. If we could have a nation at heart, we could not speak to the media about economic uncertainty.

  2. Magade is the only person in opposition who makes informed statements unlike others who oppose just because they are not in government.

  3. PF Stooge on standby for a posting. No principle. Controlled and dictated to by Mmembe. Simply just a MMembe puppet. Whatever mmembe sings, he parrots along even when out of tune

  4. Just saying if UPND want a Tonga for President “Ng’andu Magande” is the man…I am Bemba and I would vote for him…He just has to figure out how to grow his platform…HH ena awe!

  5. Why not join the PF and be part of a success story, surely brains like magande can work wonders as he is a mature politician with a clean record. The president should seriously consider having such intellect in his government so that we can develop this country not foreigners. I think he remembers how he was sidelined in the RB government after an exceptional performance as finance minister only second to penza. I implore you magande just join the PF and get out of the political cocoon that you have created for yourselves. This country needs you more than ever.
    Thanks.

  6. Dont you characters know that Magande has bone to chew with RB.dont take some of these views as objective.Read between the lines.

  7. Sarah Chileshe, look at yourself. Your comments are very unfortunate to say the least. Right is right regardless of the source and equally wrong is wrong regardless. You are emotional. Your comment is general and warrants no attention at all. You are wasting space here. Go and join those MMD caders and sing for Dora.

  8. Magande is right. Don’t just oppose simply because you are in opposition. Give credit where it is due. P.F is doing it’s best to better the lives of Zambians. Well said Mr.Magande.

  9. Magande you are always right thats one thing about you. Its not just the matter of criticising even when thinga are done in the interest of the people. Mr Magande I always salute you and you can make a good combination with MCS.

  10. “He says if the decision to reverse the sale of ZAMTEL was done in good faith, then the action should be supported”. So he is not sure about the motives of this action. May be he should also say something about the Strong, Big and reliable bank he sold. Would it be right to reposses it?

  11. #salt- regardless of whether he has got a bone to chew with rb or not you personally don’t you think what magande is saying is right?

  12. I agree with @9-zioneke. Mr Magande is correct, I also agree with him. The catch though is “if the decision to reverse the sale of ZAMTEL was done in good faith”
Every Zambian should agree with any move that develops and benefits the majority of our people. May I also add that prudent and legitimate processes that are transparent to the general citizenry should be put in place so that wrong perceptions/fears of witch-hunting are kept at bay

  13. Great that he stressed “if sold in national interest”. Zamtel should not be sold again for other vulchers to get commissions.

  14. The problem with Magande is that he was in the cabinet that decided to sell Zamtel. The RB cabinet just carried out the decision. At least he could have had the decency to say he supported the sale. But what the heck, in our country every one is an opportunist. As to the illegality of the transaction, no Judge has made that decision yet, unless the Executive Branch of Government has now become the Judiciary.

  15. decisions in the cabinet are not anonymous, some agree others do not. even this time around some might have vetoed. So we cannot blame Magande since he was in government was the sell was suggested. His point here is clear and objective enough.

  16. Its people like Salt who are the reason Zambia is where it is today. Stagnant!! The chaps (exleaders), families and close allies embarked on an economic sabotage crusade never seen before in Zambia history, looting national reason like a personal kantemba. Children with no government position scoring the shots and directing civil servants. What a rot!! Other examples like huge cash found with Liato and William banda are just a teap of an iceberg. As for Salt what matters is who speaks that matters and not what they speak about. God help this country!! How does it matter whether or not Magande as a bone or indeed bones to chew with RB. If Zamtel sale as a fraud it must be reversed period.

  17. Can someone explain Why Chinese don’t pay PAYE tax but they work on Zambian soil? Check ZRA payroll system, Check Huawei, zte and chambishi mine payroll systems at ZRA. Its unfair.

  18. Its seems in Zambia the older you get the more you loose your brains….
When GRZ decided to sell Zamnet, this F.O.OL was in government. Today he his looking for a job and he can say anything to please SATA. He tried to write off the Zambian peoples money with Zambian Airways and today every blogger is calling him intelligent….  if he was that clever why is he unemployed?

  19. Magande, Mmembe and Maureen were all in the Zamtel, Airport saga and Zambian Airways. I sure u guys are happy that u got what u wanted. Zambians including lozis dont expect much from the zamtel reversal. No benefits for u only those mentioned especially Mmembe and Mutembo. Fight for lives.

  20. The engineer, the problem is not the sale of shares in zamtel, the issue here is the corruption, undervaluation, shortcuts, zesco fibre grabbing for naught, RB capital issues which were taking place when Magande was not in govt. Remember Mwanawasa was dead then and Magande was kicked out by RB for challenging him to succeed Mwanawasa

  21. No 23
Former Finance ministers all across Africa after leaving government go to work at : IMF, World Bank, ADB, IFC etc. This guy can not even get a job in Zambia. He his simply looking for a jiob because he can not cut it anywhere….

  22. Magande now is begining to produce words that are as ugly as his open mouth. I thought he was an intelligent chap kansi it’s just show! Or is he looking for a job? Yamu nyokola…!!

  23. its ok for Govt  to Grab Zamtel , but the most imnportant thing
is how PF conducts business, Grabbing something overnight
leaves a lot to be desired and creates a lot of fear, now they have
long road to go trying to assure investors

  24. This problem with Zambian politics is there are too many hungry and broke politicians not able to give the correct positions on government policy. Simply put Magande is broke and after a job. What the PF’s regime has done to Zamtel is an of act of expropriation which can compared to when Chile and Cuba expropriated US businesses. NO politician should lie that expropriation does not carry consequences because it does. If Lap green in seeking a just compensation uses the compounding interest formula on US$257 Million this will be calculated as follows:

P=C (1+r), where C is US$257 Million and r is the rate per annum (20%). This gives us: 257000000(1+.20) =US$308,400,000. This figure does not include additional investments made into Zamtel, and final settlement may be US$600 Million.

  25. Yes Magande, you are among the few leaders with a heart for the Zambians. Help HE MCS do a great job in any way you can. Big up to you.

  26. No 28

You are correct. These guys are unemployed and not fit to be employed only GRZ can employ a useless guy like him. Tito Mbowani in SA left government and is now Chairman of Anglogold. The former president of mozambique is on the board of Rio Tinto. Only a useless guy like this guy can be in kafue and talking no sense with a one man political party because no one can employe him. Its only in Zambia where he can be called intelligent. No he is baking the right words to get a JOB.

  27. The only developmental Tonga, Magande and Mwetwa form one party. Not this useless munthu who claim to be a leader but used to lead ng’ombes

  28. Let me put it very simply.

    ZAMTEL: $5 billion
    LAP Green paid: $257 million
    GRZ paid: 314 million

If anyone should sue anyone, it is the Government suing LAP Green to get their 77 million back.

LAP Green was handed a $5 billion company, and paid $77 million for the privilege by the Banda government. So LAP Green will be very foolish – or arrogant – to even think of suing the Zambian government.

  29. 1. Zamtel was undervalued – KCM was sold for US$25m , Zamtel was sold for K257m, the highest ever . 2 The buyer was single sourced- Sale was advertised internationally and six international companies bid, all the bids were lower than Lap green, 3. Dora Siliya sold Zamtel – by the time the bids came in Dora was at Education, Lungwangwa was at communication and Mutati was responsible for ZDA. RP Capital undervalued Zamtel – Every bider submitted their own bid and no one was compelled by RP Capital, 4. Sale was illegal – No judge has yet made such a decision and no one at ZDA has been prosecuted for any illegality. 5. The Zamtel Commission has concluded that it was illegal – The Zamtel Commission was a political Commission headed by a politician who was not neutral.

  30. 6.Here is another falsehood : Government paid US$314m. Who did the goverment pay this amount. The Government of Zambia did not pay any one any thing. The Government paid to ZRA the debts Zamtel owed so that Zamtel could be sold without statutoty debts and this money was immediately paid back to government.

  31. So many of those trying to put Magande down are nothing more than people who wish they had the same pull Magande has. When he talks people listen, newspapers follow him for comments on everything, it is not the other way around. Why not just swallow your pride, work hard in whatever profession you have so even you one day people will run after you for comments. We are just way immature and that is why Zambia cant develop, always the first to discredit people who have our interest.

  32. “Mr. Magande says stakeholders should not be scared of a decision that can result in Zambia benefiting through transparent ways of doing business.”

    Well said Mr. Magande!

  33. Steel @ #5 iam with you. I would also vote for Magande. As for those saying he wants a PF post he decllined the BOZ governorship.
