Hope for Human Rights has charged that former vice president George Kunda is a racist. This follows the remarks Mr Kunda’s made recently against vice president Guy Scot.
Executive director Smart Chanda says the sentiments by Mr. Kunda in which he also referred to Dr. Scott as a dummy vice president are unfortunate and an indication that the former vice president is still bitter about the loss of his party which subsequently meant him losing the position of vice president which he held.
Mr. Chanda has told QFM that Mr Kunda should show some respect to Dr. Scott because he has the mandate to serve in government from the people of Zambia who elected him as a Member of Parliament.
He says it is wrong for George Kunda to state that the current Vice President is closer to homosexuality than the Zambians are.
Mr Chanda notes that Zambia is a unitary state and that any form of discriminatory statements should not be entertained.
Mr. Kunda during a press briefing recently challenged Dr. Scott to state his position on homosexuality stating that he is closer to the practice than Zambians are.
Bishop John Mambo has welcomed government’s move to come out and state its position on the controversial debate on homosexuality.
Bishop Mambo hopes that the government’s decision to break the silence will bring to an end the debate on homosexuality.
He has also commended the church and other stakeholders for coming out strongly on the issue of gay rights.
He has further advised the Zambian government to concentrate on fulfilling the promises made to the Zambian people during the campaigns.
Bishop Mambo says government should move fast in addressing the issues of development in the country.

I think that Zambians come in many ethnicities and we are all of the human race. Sometimes people forget that and make statements that discriminate against fellow Zambians. We need to grow up and embrace the melting pot of tribal and ethnic differences. You do not have to be ‘black’ to be Zambian. Chanda is right. Guy Scott does not deserve to be insulted by a failed VP. Kunda insinuated Guy Scott to be  gay or a gay sympathiser. Is that acceptable? Only a dimwit would disregard the fact that the government of Zambia has to respect human rights as declared by the UN. Our country abstained at the last vote on gay rights and Kunda was VP then! The voices against false or broken promises are becoming larger and larger, a growing number of these voices are coming from unexpected quarters who were with the new ruling camp barely four months ago.
By admitting that he does not qualify to act as president, Guy Scott himself has now acknowledged that he should not be the vice president of Zambia. That is because one of the constitutional functions of that office is to act as president in the event that the incumbent dies in office for example (God forbid). The option to appoint a cabinet minister to act as president is only available if the veep himself is incapacitated. The people who made the constitution made that sequence to avert a crisis which will certainly arise if more than one cabinet minister is interested to act, remember that there is no preferred minister to act, just that cabinet will elect one of their own to act. Guys, this is a constitutional crisis waiting to happen and the best we can say is that GK is a racist?
Sata & Co knew about this from the start BUT opted to ignore hence the reason he was appointing his pal Chikwanda. There is nothing racist in GK’s observations on Scott. He is just raising issues that are current on the political landscape. Why slander him? Fact is this is bad law but it is in the constitution and Scott admitted to being caught by it. Someone said the Supreme Court had ‘resolved’ the controverse arounf article 34 parentage clause! No, it never did. First, it is still in the constitution post-Supreme Court ruling. Second, the judges were just expressing their frustrations over the law. If it was resolved, Scott would not be caught-up. It is important to provide honest advice to government and society.

Mr Chanda’s sentiments are misplaced. Guy’s position as Zambian President is questionable and the fact that Kunda has raised a sailant point does not make him racist. Can we not question anybody whos white without being branded a racist? Guy’s parents are Scottish which makes him qualify to be British upon application (I would not be surprised if he already holds a British passport). That makes him closer to Britain, where gay rights are recognised and enshrined in law, than any other ordinary Zambian whos parents are from Mongu or Mpika. Nothing racists about that!

Who is a racist between GK and Tatty Chanda, Sata and PF govt. I understand Dr Guy Scott is Vice President (Republican) of Zambia. GK is questioning the inability of Dr Scott to act as president in the absence of president Sata. This being a constitutional office GK has authority in his posture over this post because he once was one. Chanda, Sata and entire PF have descriminated Dr Scott to legimately act as president without any reasonable and believable reasons. The only reason is because Scott is white Zambian African. Its a Shame to hide behind GK when his effort is to nomalise the defficiency manipulated by PF govt in the office of Vice President.

Our current laws allow for Guy Scott, a Zambian, to be vice President. Because he is white, we end up pandering and responding to people who have nothing better to do than engage in unprofitable diatribes about race and eligibility. Isn’t it about time we took this govt. head on in regard to what its position is in regard to its economic, social and political philosophy or policies? As as I am concerned, this has still not been spelled out clearly. I am not expecting immediate results, but some direction of where we are going.
