Government denies soldiers have been deployed to Mongu

Share

Defence deputy minister Colonel Panji Kaunda has refuted reports being circulated by an online publication that government is deploying soldiers to Mongu, Western Province, ahead of the Barotse National Council.

Col Kaunda says there are no troops being deployed to Mongu as is being suggested.

In an interview with QFM NEWS, Col Kaunda says it is most likely that the soldiers being mistaken for Zambian soldiers are the ones from neighboring Angola.

Some sections of the media have reported that the PF government is sending troops to Mongu in ahead of the Barotse national council which takes place in the next few days.

Colonel Kaunda says there is nothing to worry about in Western Province as the situation is very normal.

  1. katungu read again and comment properly where have got mongu and angola it reads “Col Kaunda says there are no troops being deployed to Mongu as is being suggested.

    • @OPNESS
Read your own post again.  How can Angolan soldiers be mistaken for Zambian soldiers unless the Angolans are in Zambia, you tweet!  Panji (the name sounds like a sound of diarrhoea poo) should elaborate what Angolan soldiers could possibly be doing in Western Province.

  2. #2 Katungu is right. You need to reread what you just quoted. What the heck is happening with our govt? Now they are talking about Angolan soldiers in Mongu and they take it so casual!!!!! We are in maningi trouble!

    • The problem is that this govt says one thing today and another the next day.all over one issue!I bet you they will retract this comment ponce the Angolan government complains about their name being put in disrepute.

What in the world would soldiers from another country be doing in sovereign country? are they trying to tell us something?

  3. What on earth could soldiers from Angola be doing in Barotseland?Fact is Barotse people are being suppressed from demanding for what rightly belongs to them

  4. yes am right .his saying that the soldiers being spotted in mongu may have been those from Angola .now what are doing?.period

  5. Let every province demand for independence you see where this will leave ukwa and his kolwestans suckers who believe in nothing but lying to achieve anything

  6. And the colonel is ok with that? What are these Angolan soldiers doing on Zambian soil? Unless there is something the colonel knows which we are not privy to, I think this is a serious security matter if foreign soldiers can find their way into our country with ease. We need a formal govt statement from the colonel or the govt spokesperson, because it appears that the colonel is not too sure if he can say those soldiers most likely are from Angola. It seems the colonel hasn’t been fully briefed, he just answered on-the-cuff. He is supposed to be very definite because this is a security matter. It is like someone comes to tell you that they have seen a man in your main bedroom where your wife is, and all you say is, its most likely that man is my brother! Man, get to the bottom of it!

  7. When the government starts issuing statements in response to some “wild” on line publicationz, you smell a very big rat, very big dead rat.

  8. Better get your Portuguese on guys :) Maybe it’s just some of our fellow Angolan Lozis chilling out like back in the day :) Obrigado. Pass the bucket of whoppers Colonel…

On a more serious note may God preserve peace to all within our borders.

  9. But whats wrong with Panji? Angolan soldiers in Mongu, doing what? Does this guy realy know what he is talking about ? Am deeply shocked to say the least…..

  10. There could be Angolan soldiers there on the usual joint security exercises. Kaunda needed to refer to these with details, and not assume every Zambian knows there are Angolan soldiers there for whatever normal thingy.

  11. Angolan soldiers in Mongu? Are they on their own or in the company of Zambian soldiers. This is the problem of everyone issuing statements instead of leaving such a task to the government spokesperson.

  12. We have clowns for ministers. A former security personnel making such careless statements. He has mingled too much with civilians. Switch on Kaunda !

  13. I dont really think the honorable assistant minister of defence meant to say what he said. He was just jibby jabbing!

  14. So are the Angolans in Zambia because they want to pay us back for according to Ukwa ,having supported Savimbi in the past? It beggars belief that people genuinely and voluntarily voted to be ruled by these bunch of clowns!

  15. Panji hs never been a spokes person for any organisation, why make him a Govt mouth piece? These issues bprder on national security at very high dilomatic level. In any case how do Angolan soldiers come in? These are purely internal matters.

  16. this could result into a serious diplomat feud with angola.angolan soldiers on zambian soil for what? we need a statement from the government spokesperson. have we been invaded or what? are we safe in zambia…are these angolan soldiers with the zambian soldiers? has angola declared war with zambia or what? are they on a peace mission in barotseland.

  17. We have govt which is so careless with statements to a point one wonders what will be of Zambia by 2016. Everything is Dochi Kubeba.

  18. Ukwa is going to be so pissed off with Mr Ibus loose mouth! He might just relegate him to the same political dustbin bashi Popo Kambwili is wallowing in! Now this cash, idea and leadership strapped country has to appologise (yeah right! Ukwa apologising!) to Angola. But this only after claiming that the 40 or so people killed during the coming Barotse meeting MIGHT PROBABLY have been killed by Al Queda or Al Shebbab! If this pathetic government wasn’t so saddly dangerouse, it would actualy be funny…

    • Hi guys, good to hear from you! We’re a bit envious of you guys going to UTB in July! We rllaey wanted to come out for the conference to see people but it just didn’t quite work out and I think would have been one too many things in a busy summer as we’re preparing to move to the US.When we’re in the US I’m planning to do some work for UTB remotely, and also to do an MA in Bible and Mission part-time which I’m rllaey looking forward to!Hope you guys are both doing well. Have a great time in East Africa when you go![]

  19. i thought the ministers were a bit better than their master ukwa. how can the minister of defence tell us that the soldiers in mongu(he actually accepts they are there) are from Angola, then what are they doing??? How then is the situation normal if there are foreign soldiers in Zambia whose agenda we don’t know… What a minister of (in)security

  20. its looks like Panji knows what he is saying, but he is using dont kubeba on lozis.they are not Angolan soldiers ,they Zambian soldiers.remember what UKWA mentioned in Kabwe. That he will sent soldiers there.only that diplomacy will require Panji to apologies to Angola.

  21. PFooters are headed for the Hague or Zambia will go into civil war. No more Lozis shall be killed by Bemba soldiers or cops.

  22. It’s donchi kubeba remember? When they promise something, they mean the opposite, e.g. when they say more money in your pockets they mean less money; when they say no chinese investment they mean yes even to poor conditions of service; when they say good governance they mean one party state; when they say that the veep is entitled to act as president the veep himself will issue a denial; when they say freedom of the public media you see the very opposite; when they say that they are fighting corruption be sure they mean that baletapulapo; when they say that there are no Zambian soldiers in Mongu they mean that Angolan soldiers are there instead; WHEN THEY DENY SOMETHING IT MEANS THAT IT IS TRUE.

  23. Another one before we even finish Lap Green, it could be fun if Zambia was not heading for bankruptcy with court cases. Forget the roads this year, forget the hospitals too and just service the mobile hospitals, they will come in handy pretty soon.

  24. We haven’t seen anything yet with this kaponya Govt. The colonel talking about soldiers in Zambia from another country??. I want to believe that our Lozi brothers are to test the waters. Kaunda sent HELICOPTER GUNSHIPS TO MPULUNGU and protestors who did not want him to impose a Bemba chief received bullets. I hope our Lozi brothers will insist sensible on sensible dialogue, if any one tries to intensify underground movement as they are doing now.. am afraid western province will be worse than Somalia.

  25. This is ridiculous and a very careless lie with grave diplomatic consequences coming out of a Deputy Minister and a retired colonel who should know better! Obviously the Angolans will take issue with this stupid statement and make representation to the Zambian government. Given ought to quickly engage the Angolans in a “damage control” initiative, if what “Chikabudula” has said is a lie (Which i believe it is). The PF government are becoming an embarrassment even to their ardent supporters because of the mediocre and uninspired leadership. It is little wonder that we should loose our “star rating” on the world stage. Its indefensible and a crying shame for this government. Bwezani is having the last laugh!!

  26. Zed must not dare us

We want to warn everyone that Mongu will be full of barotses next week. even if many will not be at the actual BNC, the issue is that the BNC can be attended by members of the public either as invited guests or merely to follow the proceedings. The BNC comprises of all structures of barotse governance from the village all the way to the BRE and chiefs. so you are talking about all able bodied men and women available in mongu from the 25th to the 27th.
Police or army or whoever agents GRZ has planned to send to mongu should know that should they provoke the people, a riot may occur. Barotses are generally peaceful people and meetings of this nature are called not for armed conflict but merely for verbal debates and conclusions. so please keep away from us.

  27. If it is true that Panji said the soldiers are from Angola…this is very sad. these kinds of mistakes can be very costly

  28. Panji you are in trouble!!! When Ukwa comes back  he will move your Ministry and re-align it with Environment. Wapya you will be Ministry-less!!!

  29. can this Tom and jerry government talkreal issues. the problem we have is that Ukwa has no proper advisors, why continue this way in a country. am a lozi and i called home, am told theseare Zambian solders who were seen getting into mongu day light. why should Aongolan solders come there fore what. therepatration was done and the next process is not now. kona masipa a puso olu bulela, masipa luli a kunyela. Koono luka bona ngongi hai ka lila shangwe.

  30. Colonel Panji Kaunda telling lies? I honestly can not believe this! This will cause unnecessary tensions! Is Panji telling our Soldiers & Intelligence agents to rush to Mongu now? Zambia seems to be at risk now!

For goodness sake what is going on with these PF Ministers going to stop their misinformation to Zambians? It was Sata, Sichinga, Kambwili & now Panji? This is not the UNIP 1970 nor 80s time of propaganda! This can not just work in our generation!

    Am disappointed really!

At least even the newspaper i respect The Post Newspaper & Mmembe are able to see through this PF leaders that they are on a wrong path altogether! Mmembe is calling a spade a spade now!

Sata & PF are a one term government come 2016 kuyabebele!

  31. @Shaka Oz-the Post Newspaper is the one that has contributed to this mess. All this was done to protect Mmembe and his friend’s interests and not for me an ordinary Zambian.
If intelligence people are failing to work maybe they should bring back the old guards. There was nothing like that in their time.
PF needs to put its house in order and things will take off especially if they are not corrupt or rather perceived to be corrupt (since the Zedian standard is perception-in the Post)
    Good day people.
