Unemployed Solwezi youths stage protest over unemployment

Solwezi Main Market both young and old, watching a video at a kantemba

About 200 youths that are looking for employment in the mines in Solwezi matched to the office of the Northwestern Province Permanent Secretary on Monday.

The young people were demanding that government should intervene in the manner the mines were employing people.

The youths were also asking the provincial administration to explain why it has taken long for them to be employed by Lumwana and Kansanshi mines while other people from other districts were allegedly being considered easily.

One of the youth representatives Felix Kanshamba complained that young people in the district had high hopes of getting jobs in the mines in the area.

Mr. Kanshamba said young people were now annoyed and therefore want government to intervene in their plight.

They youths said they are now tired of being promised jobs yet the mines have been employing people from outside the district.

And Northwestern Province Permanent Secretary Bert Mushala said when he addressed the angry youths outside his office that their concerns were genuine and asked them to be patient as the employment process at the mines was being done gradually.

Mr. Mushala explained that the management at the mines has procedure and criteria which it follows before employing people.

he said members of the public need to understand these procedures and criteria so that they stop complaining.

  1. Well youths, just change your names and you will get jobs, easy names like Mutale, Chimshimba, Chansa, Chilufya, Sata you will be employed.
its the same thing that my nephew Miles Sampa told the Tongas to marry bemba women if they want to become presidents!

  2. what are your qualifications. You dont get gets by singing donchi kubeba maybe a political job not in the mines

  3. RED CARD CAMPAIGN ON YOUTH JOBS….PLEASE SEND US THE CONTACTS FOR SUNDAY CHANDA? WE WANT TO BE PART OF THE CAMPAIGN SO THAT WE CAN SHAKE THIS GOVERNMENT OF LIES.

  4. Well, they were promised jobs if they held their end of the agreement, weren’t they? and they did their bit by voting according to the agreement. Now, their time has come to get their dues. Who can blame them? These are just warning shots of a time bomb. It will spread to other towns in one form or another. Mr. Sata will be remembered for having conned the youth, and causing the job riots that are going to beset Zambia.

  5. If Ukwa adressed them and ‘promised’ them that they will never be employed, i wouldnt be surprised to see some of them getting excited nd shouting donchi kubeba.

  6. Wait until tv stations are provided in rural areas so that people can be sensitised on the benefits of unemployment. LOL

  7. Don’t encouraage tribaalist bafik..the mines are employing experienced zambia who mostly are coming from the copperbelt and can be off any tribe.in future the locals will aquire the same skills .mushala is right. The mine uses such a critelia. The won’t employ because you are born in solwezi. What nonsense.

  8. @fumbi. How does one gain experience without a job? One acquires experience as he works. Just admit that one has to be named chanda mulenga sata mwamba to get a job in the mines

  9. Wapya Munzi. Ukwa is busy opening a primary school in Bots. Ukwa and his tribal party. How do they get experience when they are not being considered? No direction as to where the nation is going.

  10. @fumbi ulitole sana hw can someone gain experience when they ve just graduated from school? They av the right this govt promised youths jobs but did it say it wil only employ people with experience or with papers.Or are u telling me jobs in the mines like that of an operator does it require someone with a degree + 8yrs experience, have manners b4 u comment?NTALU YOBE!

  11. Bafikala you want to be employed but tamwajoba, go to college/univer then it will shine

  12. do you honestly think anything good can come out of PF..nothing brethren..its just fake promises..they will never employ you..they will keep on threatening you with police..hahaha

  13. Running a country on tribal lines is very detrimental and retrogressive. Let appointments be done on merit and the government should be counting their days we are also watching them very closely day and nite.
