FIRST Lady Christine Kaseba has paid tribute to her predecessor Thandiwe Banda, being first among First Ladies of Zambia to anchor ‘The First Lady for a Day Mentorship’ programme with young people.

‘The First Lady for a Day of Mentorship’ event is meant to provide an opportunity for the First Lady to mingle with young people drawn from the country’s provinces and share their experiences as well as offer guidance towards their career choices in life.

Dr Kaseba said this at State House grounds in Lusaka yesterday when she hosted girls and boys aged between 14 and 18 during a luncheon.

She relayed a message of hope through the group to other young people in the country to remain focused. She was happy to have spent time with young people hence her tribute to former First Lady, Mrs Banda for having tailored the programme.

“I am honoured to warmly welcome you to State House on another historic moment when we certify girls and boys from 10 provinces of Zambia who have participated in the 2012 ‘First Lady for a Day Mentorship programme.’

“I would like to pay special tribute to the former First Lady Mrs Banda, for being first among the First Ladies of Zambia to anchor such a wonderful programme which has benefited young people in the rural areas of this great country,” Dr Kaseba said.

She thanked Junior Achievement Zambia, Stanbic Bank Zambia and the Forum for African Women Educationalists of Zambia (FAWEZA) for supporting the programme.

In motivating the group, she called on them to have positive attitudes backed by a purpose and that the only way to achieve their purpose was by taking small actions which would add up to something great in future.

Ministry of Education, Science and Vocational Training and Early Childhood, Permanent Secretary, Miriam Chinyama hailed Dr Kaseba for playing an inspirational role in inspiring the young.

Ms Chinyama said the programme was critical towards providing quality entrepreneurship skills among young people especially those in rural areas.

Stanbic Bank managing director Dennis Kennedy donated K100 million to the group and pledged continued assistance through the bank’s corporate social responsibility programme.

Mr Kennedy said education was a right for every child and it was the only way to raise them into responsible citizens that could actively participate in national development.

Junior Achievement Zambia board chairperson David Chakonta thanked Dr Kaseba for accepting to continue anchoring the programme and to personally mentor the young people.

  1. This is very good for Dr. Kaseba-Sata to acknowledge Mrs. Banda. Women are ahead of us men who are just fighting in public. Keep it up ladies and work together. You are our mothers and show a good example, not insults in public and threatening to undress before the country. I very imprest.

    • You are very correct there, problem with most men in Zambian politics is that they do not have ambition nor confidence. Thus when power falls into their hands due to fear of ones that are smarter or wiser the hang on to their positions with their dear lives. If we Had more General Miyandas and Dambiso Moyos in government Zambia would be on a rise of biblical type goodness.

  2. For the first time in our country we have a sensible first lady…mukwaii twalubila Ba Tata Ba Ukwa bantu bana awe mwendini katwishi ekotuleya.

  3. What these “important” people said is less important than what the young boys and girls were taught. This article should have given us details of the lessons, values, etc that were imparted on the youths. Like this, it only appears to be a luncheon with the first lady… thats teaching kids hero worship.

  4. First lady Kaseba,
I beg your pardon, your nicely coined rhetoric and state house luncheons for young people mean nothing to millions of desperate boys and girls who have lost all hope of ever getting a school place, let alone a job. Please forget about state house luncheons and speeches and press upon the president to seriously attend to the plight of Zambia’s youths.

  5. Congrats Madam. That is what it be.I hope men can learn a lesson that ridiculing the former regime in public does not show civility.Next time hold a “First Lady for a Day Mentorship programme” for adults who have just assumed control of Government.

  6. And how did you get hooked to a hooligan??? Or thats you type?? Tell that thug next time you make love to him to tone down.

  7. @Distant Drums – fair point but this event was not targeting the millions while some of the other events the first lady has officiated at do. What would be helpful is if the journalists did not take the lazy option and actually interviewed people at these events do we can hear what they feel they got out of it as impact is felt by someone who attends then passed on to those who hear has someone’s life or thoughts were impacted. Ripple effect.

  8. Excuse my multiple errors :) The point is a select few attend the event but the program outreach is further. The entire education system needs an overhaul. We should not accept kids sitting on rocks and no text books etc. It is actually within reach to have some corporate social drive to assist with primary education but remains a missed opportunity.

  9. @ number 13 , you an ***** and a full. your parents worsted their energies to have you. how i wish your mother had a misscariege while you were still in her belly

    • Well my friend luckily am alive. Where does that live mr wise guy?? I bet you are a bigger imbecile.

  10. Sata alikwata Namayo uwasambililila, nomba Ba Sata tabasabililila so tapali ifyo bashiba. Time is cming 4 Sata 2 kwn that we dont love him anymore. becouse we are doing Dont Kubeba ati natubasula satana Sata.

  11. May be Sata can also start a similar program. First Men Mentorship program.

Some people can learn something from him, especially how to be an effective opposition leader.

  12. Awe mwandi Mayo, you have showed that a totally different atmosphere can exist even in a political-related arena where. This article just gives a peaceful atmosphere because of the attitude of the first lady towards her predecessor. This is the way it should be. But as observed y @16, every election has seen verbal unprintables from MEN against each other. This is a good precedence.

  13. Mayo Sata Kaseba, you are a true leader and inspire us. We salute you. Work with Former First ladies and all 2nd ladies. Together you will do a lot for our people.

  14. All of you didn’t get the news right. Thandiwe has been invited as one of the youths to attend this important meeting so that she gives a testimony of what it takes for a girl to get married to a grandfather.

    Word!

  16. In all fairness, Dr. Kaseba is responding to her true human values. Her natural instincts are helping her to appreciate that State House is never a permanent home. She too will be on the” DOLE”, and prone to be subjected at the mercy of democratic government that will uphold the Rule of Law to extend to a helping hand to her as a potencial beneficiary of emoluments that go to former Presidents and/or their spouses. Wynter Kabimba will not be hand to be at hand in times of need. We appreciate and thank the First Lady for expressing her mind. May God bless Dr. Kaseba.

  17. This is a rare voice of reason from State House. In all fairness, Dr. Kaseba is responding to her true human values.
