Katongo Toasts Victory at Levy Stadium

Time Posted: June 9, 2012 10:09 pm

Zambia skipper Christopher Katongo

Chris Katongo has said he is overjoyed to have scored the winning and Zambia’s first-ever goal at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium today.

Katongo scored the game’s lone goal in the 15th minute of the first half in their win over Ghana in the two sides’ 2014 World Cup Group D qualifier played in Ndola.

“I scored the first goal in this stadium it is history and no one will take it away from me, I have given the team the three points,” Katongo said.

Zambia’s win comes a week after they lost 2-0 away to Sudan in their opening Group D match in Khartoum.

Herve Renard’s side s now on three points, level with Group D leaders Ghana who have a superior goal difference.

Meanwhile Sudan might take command of Group D on Sunday should they beat Lesotho away in Maseru in the two sides second pool match.

Winner from Group D will advance to the final super 10 stage in November 2013 that will see teams paired in two-legged home and away games to decide the five teams to represent Africa in Brazil.

No daught Katongo you have gone down in history. You are the 1st Zambian captain to lift the Afcon and also opened the scoring in new stadium. Not these trophyless Kalushaz who are now using their name even when they want to take a sh.t But this is probably the most difficult world cup qualifier. Even if we will lead the group D we still have to play two more games to make it to Brazil.

Kalusha haters like you are heading for Chainama. The man is destined for greatness. He is 25 years later the only Southern african to win the African footballer of the year. The only FAZ chairman to win Afcon. Hate him or not greater achievements will come under him. Continue with your mad raantings. Chainama is waiting

Can we please also be a little bit grammatical in our debates. Some zambians on this fora wished the team ill-will back yet we came back. Instead of wishing them to lose, we need to support them like we did during the AFCOM. Asante sana mwe fipolopolo and God bless you..

Brother, Christopher is human. If God wills it for us to go to the World Cup as he it did at the AFCON, then we ought to support him. If he doesnt, at least we are doing our best. This win was a miracle from God

Honestly people, Chris Katongo did NOT play good at all, but he scored anyway, this is the evil of soccer.
Nothing personal, but Chris Katongo, Felix Katongo and Mayuka did absolutely nothing, I know who to watch football. Chisamba should have played in place for son-of- HR Felix, and use Musonda or Nkausu.
Next players Renard need to use and develop are Chivuta, Sithali, and that Katebe. HR need to continue searching for left back.
Those Katongo brothers I wonder what kind of bwanga bapanda, even a white coach is been lowered?

We pray 4 Jacob Mulenga to fully recover cos we could have easily beat Ghana 3 -0,he is a prolific goal-scorer,im not complaining but looking on how we can improve our Squad.

Iwe Nostradamus. You don’t know anything about football. Mayuka is one of our best strikers and is constantly a terror up front. I t does not mean that you playing football is always touching the ball. Mayuka has a killer touch like fillipo Inzaggi or Drogba. Besides, wasen’t he substituted.
Chris also adds inspiration to the team. These are all tactics in soccer.

The problem with Africans is their tendency to ascribe everything to another power other than them. Its either witchcraft or God. This is just a way of escaping responsibility. Someone says we will qualify for 2014 if God wants like God wanted us to win Afcon 2012. Why would God want us to win Afcon 2012 and not 1994 or 1996 or 2000? You win because you worked hard for it. You lose because you didn’t work hard. Working hard also means you work on your intelligence so you sweat on the right tasks. Its all about hard work not about interventions by superpowers

I agree with Notra fimofimo , these Katongo brothers are finished thus why bonetti did not use them and u saw how zambia was winning under bonetti, he even brought the spirit of winning away games not this loud mouthed disrespectiful coach who can only win at home when we are away to sudan we get butchered, we need Lucky Msiska to take over the team please. Then the katongo’ s rest them for mbesuma and chivuta in the next game against lesotho, co we need to beat them atleast 10 to zero

There’s nothing as sweet as a Victory, but it could have been sweeter. Our coach has no shortage of fire power but must learn hos best to utilise it. Chansa spoilt the midfield and cost us a lot in missed chances. Sakuwaha was given insufficient time to make his mark or add to the tally – He must be always start and then be replaced by Mayuka. Our best midfield combination is that of Aaron Njobvu and Nathan Sinkala. Big up to the big boys at the back – they were simply excellent, calm and well organised. Mbola needs more game time where ever he’s playing to regain his fitness – he looked a bit stale, but overall IT IS THE 3 POINTS THAT COUNT, AND WELL DONE BOYS AND ALL ZAMBIANS AT LARGE, ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT PAINTED NDOLA GREEN AND GOLD!!!

    # 19 he is from Belgium, FiFA and CAF only allow footballers to play for countries where one holds the passport of that country whether dual or not. That is why Zambians have been advocating for Dual citizenship so that the children born in the diaspora who have other citizenship can also contribute to Zambia’s development, image and branding that is with dual citizenship.

To everyone who s happy with the outcome of the game you have a duty to ensure that the money Chipolopolo won in the African Champions is paid to them fairly, secondly you also have a duty to ensure that the coach is paid, lastly you have a duty  to find out why the transport logistics were delayed for the sudan trip and who ever was responsible needs to be held accountable and to explain to Zambians.

A  reputable professional private events management company needs to take over in handling all the logistics and human resource managements for Chipolopolo for goodness sake they are African champions and Zambians expect excellent events management  and Human Resource Management over the team, God bless the Chipolopolo team, coach and every morally, ethical and upright Zambian  .

#8, apart from Felix, you are right. Mayuka and Chris were absolute passengers…Felix was very creative on the wing and created the goal for his older brother. Chisamba is good going forward but a big risk to back-tracking and marking. The players for Zambia were the little master himself Kalaba, the never tiring Mbola, Nathan the nut cracker in midfield and of course the ever reliable unstoppable Stoppila Sunzu….what a game it was, history was made and it was just a blessing to be there!! Congrats boys…
