UPND Spokesman Charles Kakoma has rubbished assertions by Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba that a number of UPND MP’s want to work in the PF government.
Mr. Kakoma told Journalists in Lusaka yesterday evening that Mr. Mwamba’s claims are part of the PF government’s propaganda aimed at weakening the opposition.
“No UPND MP is interested in serving in a party with falling fortunes, this is propaganda used by dictators, even Hitler used the same tactics,” Mr. Kakoma said.
He said the UPND remains united to provide credible checks and balances to the ruling party and are not looking for simple jobs from the PF.
Mr. Kakoma said UPND MP’s recognize their role in a democractic dispensation and would not negate such responsibilities.
“I hear I have also been mentioned in this ficticoius list that GBM is talking about but surprisnly, no one has approached and I don’t know where this is coming from,” he said.
“I have served for three terms as an opposition MP and I have never even dreamt of accepting a position especially in this government which lacks vision.”
Mr. Kakoma has since advised Mr. Mwamba to ensure that the PF delivers on its various promises to the Zambian people.
“What is sad is that, what GBM is claiming does not matter to a person who is hungry in Kanyama, to a person without a job in Matero and I think these are the issues that Zambians want addressed and not who is interested in accepting a job or who is not.”

Mr Kakoma is referring to persistent claims by GBM and Mr Sakeni that UPND MPs have secretly approaching govt with view of working with PF (in the Zambian setup it means they’re also willing to take up ministerial jobs). UPND is not totally against the idea of working with govt, what they’re against is appointing of their MPs as Ministers which is viewed by many as weakening opposition. We’re in multiparty democracy and we can’t expect all areas to vote for MPs from ruling party.
What do you mean?In the UK MPS speak against their parties that sponsor them.Even if you are in Govt you can point out mistakes and should the Govt turn a blind eye listen quit and inform the Zambians.This is how will earn respect.Next time people will remember you and vote for you.Not Hon.Kakamo busy eating Govt.allowances

I’am not sure you know what you are talking about. Can you give us an example where a Tory MP has accepted a ministerial job in the Labour Govt or vis-visa? Even a Jnr one. If you are thinking of the current set up then you’ve missed the point. We have a coalition Govt and that is totally different to the situation in Zambia.
The biggest mistake you made Mr Kakoma, was to allow your party to pull out of PF/UPND pact. If you truly represent the people that elected you, working with the Government should not be an issue. It is even better so that together we deliver development to the people.
Now all you care about is your belly and I see you still wanting to stand in 2016, it is like you made that parliamentary seat personal to holder just like your party president. Do not be a hypocrite just accept and add value to the nation so that those hungry people that sent you to Parliament can benefit. It’s the private sector that should create jobs, to allow the public purse to grow through taxes and it is those taxes that should allow Govt to invest in public services/investments which will create opportunities for more jobs. So while your private sector is stagnant, you should not be smiling about unnecessary creation of districts….

Dad is from Northwestern and mom is Bemba, so my dad should not be ready to work with my moms people?! To be honest, us of “mixed blood” find this tribal issues or politics repugnat. Am usually called by a bemba name though my father is from Northwestern, infact his mom is from Central Province! So I vote for a credible candidate not for a tribe. The most important elements crucial to all Zambians are sumised as follows; Zambians need Social-Democratic consciousness, the recognition by ordinary poor Zambians of the irreconcilable atagonistism of their primary and subsquent interests to whole PF political structure. Once the understanding of the above phrase has been further expanded then, the Zambian masses will realise that there is alternative to Social-Democratic consciousness. The second element is that of graduating Zambia from the rank and file membership of donor aid recipients and truly giving her true identity among proud nations. Zambians need a leadership deep thinkers not some reactionary elements.
In my prior comment above I meant to say there is no alternative to Social-Democratic consciousness, the Zambian masses by themselves cannot develop the above consciousness, but it should be ‘imported’ to them meaning that some intellectuals should work closely with the opposition in sensetising the masses with the identification of the thin line that stands between Social-Democratic consciousness and the bourgeois life style that has been adopted by the PF regime. The regime has already detached itself from the majority of Zambians. It only applies socialism when govt. leaders’salaries are increased just like capitalists apply socialism when they bail out brankrupt firms in the US. There might be tribalism in Zed but HH and UPND should be the last people to complain.
