Government has threatened to shut all drug stores being manned by unqualified drug dispensers.
Health Deputy Minister, Patrick Chikusu says government is disturbed that most drug stores in the country do not have qualified personnel.
Speaking during the commemoration of Pharmacy week in Lusaka, Dr. Chikusu says drugs are a sensitive commodity which must be dispensed by qualified personnel.
He says government has intensified inspections of drug stores and will prosecute all drug stores owners who will be found wanting.
And Dr. Chikusu says government has started the decentralization of the medical stores in a bid to improve drug distribution in the country.
He says the first medical storage facility has been established in Choma and will be opened by the end of this month.
Meanwhile Pharmaceutical Association of Zambia president, Liyoka Liyoka has praised government for decentralizing Medical Stores.
Mr. Liyoka says his association is ready to work with government in ensuring that drugs are available in all parts of the country.
