Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) National Secretary Muhabi Lungu has been thrown out of his office by Dr Nevers Mumba’s supporters from the Copperbelt.
Mr Lungu told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka that supporters of Dr Mumba’s stormed and forced him out of his office.
He said the actions of the cadres are against democratic tenets that the former ruling party espouses.
Mr Lungu said he has since reported the matter to Police to help resolve the situation peacefully and avoid begetting violence.
He said he had instructed his cadres not to retaliate against Dr Mumba’s supporters in order to safeguard peace.
And Mr Mumba has confirmed having received an order of interim Injunction from the high court restraining him and the NEC from interfering with Dr Nevers Mumba’s duties as MMD President until the matter is disposed off by the court.
Mr Lungu said he will consult with his lawyers before issuing any further statement on the interim injunction.
Dr Mumba was suspended by the MMD’s National Executive Committee last week for alleged indiscipline.
This followed a power struggle between Dr Mumba and former Head of State Rupiah Banda over the MMD’s presidential candidature for the January 20 presidential by-election.
Dr Mumba has since urged all party structures across the country to continue mobilizing the party and stand ready to participate in the forthcoming presidential by-election.
The MMD Leader has also warned party members of stiff punishment if they attend a meeting scheduled for Thursday in Lusaka organized by some NEC members as it is illegal.

The two big parties are really throwing punches whilst there is only one party on the campaign trail backed by a couple of other smaller parties. NAREP remain silent as though waiting for a golden moment.

The headline should have been: “MMD Cadres smoke out Muhabi Lungu from the party offices” Just thinking. This is good riddance by MMD cadres. Muhabi if anything has no morals at all. He has further fueled confusion in the former ruling party. I had high respect for Muhabi until recently when I realized that is a “useful f00l”. How do you remove Dr. Mumba who was democratically elected? How do you bring in an outsider to stand as MMD presidential candidate. That’s what corruption can do. The man being a professional would have excused himself as opposed to issue that statement. None of the NEC is being accused but the one who went to the press to issue the statement. We have a long way to go in politics if those who are in power can easily be compromised. Grow up Muhabi Lungu.
Reminiscent of Major Kachingwe. It’s Nevers Mumba’s signature style for resolving differences. This method, however, is archaic. It is the reason some of us view him as a THUG just as much.
Primitive politics. Very soon Zambia will become as violent as other African countries. Our fame for peace is now a flimsy gown, that mad politicians exploit to save face before the international community.

What new is RB going to bring? RB has dirty hands. The man is appearing in Court for corruption, the man lost his immunity. Who doesn’t know RB stole from government. The coming of RB is to stop court cases if he wins. You can read from his face. Poor MMD NEC members are too dull to realize the evil motive of RB they want to sponsor as presidential candidate. It is not about money but the integrity of a person. Not RB please…

Too bad for both MMD and PF. I wish they sat down quickly and solve their problems. But this does not mean that UPND will win election because once these two big parties settle down, a good picture will be clear. Lets wait for PF convention then we will see the way forward.

Muhabi Lungu has clearly ruined up his political life. That was an insult to Nevers his political father for him to have behaved the way he did. Muhabi, you had peoples trust but alas have thrown it away. Ask for forgiveness from Nevers Mumba and it is never too late you will be forgiven like a prodigal son. You miscalculated and cheated.
The only thing lacking in this article is a good photo showing one group of cadres kicking the behind of another cadre and throwing his desk and possessions from the office onto the sidewalk.
Both MMD and PF want to rally for tainted people. RB is still appearing in court for yet to be resolved cases and EL is a disgrace to the legal practitioners for embezzling clients monies and has love for alcohol and gambling. Surely is Zambia devoid of upright men and women to choose from? Should any of the two succeed I won’t have any desire for dual citizenship to materialize as I’ll just stay away for good!

Mr Muhabi Lungu, we thought you and Nevers Mumba would one day bring new life into the MMD. The way you campaigned for Nevers and the analysis you made about him before the MMD convention really made all of us give him 70%. Now you undemocratically invited RB to ‘work with Mumba’. Know what, if a party is organized they can even sale a frog to win an election. RB was sold as such. Levy was sold as such. If you believe in democracy why did you not subject your RB to completion even in MMD. Why did you ignore the legal advice from Machila that Mumba is the only presidential candidate. Ba Lungu, whether Mumba cannot win you elections or not, he is the democratic elected candidate and so was Chiluba in 1991 and 2006. In 2001 and 2008 NEC voted because the incumbents were not available.
