Kalaba, Lungu Get Late Call-ups For Ghana Friendly

Rainford Kalaba and Mischek Lungu have been included in Zambia’s friendly against Ghana tomorrow evening in London at Brisbane Road in the East End.

Faz communications officer Erick Mwanza said today in Lusaka that Kalaba and Lungu who are based in Portugal and Hungary respectively have been drafted in following a spate of withdrawals.

This follows over a dozen potential no-shows for the game due to problems in getting UK visa and injury.

Missing will be most or all of the five South African based contingent after delays in getting their UK visas filed in time at the British high commission in Pretoria including James Chamanga who is based in China.

Three European based players attendance for the game is also in question with midfielder Andrew Sinkala from Augsburg in Germany while defender Emmanuel Mbola from Pyunik Yerevan in Armenia is reportedly injured.

However, coach Herve Renard is also keeping his fingers crossed and hoping that former Under-23 midfielder Chanda Mwaba from RoPS in Finland will make the journey down to the London East end to play.

Mwaba is expected to make his senior debut after a three-year hiatus from the international scene.

Meanwhile, the match will also be Renard’s first meeting against the Black Stars with whom he served as physical trainer two years ago under then coach and his mentor Claude Leroy.

  1. What a worse of money sending players to UK? Zam won’t do anything good without adquent preparation, arriving hours b4 kick off. The black star will too advantage of the tired zam team. disorganised without team work weeks b4 hand.

  2. Yeah, seems the organisation is not ideal. But players travel long distances for matches all the time and the time difference shouldn’t be too bad for the jet lag, unless players are coming from China (James Chamanga is now not coming anyway). Should be a good experience for any home-based players to experience playing in Western Europe, travel problems included.

  3. How come they reaslised they needed visas last week. i dont think i am wrong to assume they have been aware of this match for some time now.

  4. FAZ lack seriousness in the way they run their affairs. when was this game arranged and when were those chaps supposed to apply for visas?. I doubt the combination of these players who have not played together in a year or two facing the well coordinated Ghana of Essien, Muntari, Asamoah and others. This game is an opportunity for zambia to strengthen the team before facing Algeria who did some damage in chililabombwe. Tulebako seriouss.

  5. Its something that Renard has to deal with. It’s similar to situations where you have injuries or suspensions. So the game will go ahead just like what the FAZ president stated.

FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya said it was important for Zambia to play Ghana despite the shortcomings.
He said football was a game of sacrifice.

Kalusha also noted that even other teams were facing similar problems but what is important is to persevere.

He said coach Herve Renard will be able to assess some youngsters in the team.

On the other hand, even Ghana will be without some key players who have failed to secure visas.

Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac will miss the services of Isaac Vorsa and Prince Tagoe of German side Hoffeinheim who failed to secure visas while goalkeeper Richard…
