Govt recognizes Senior Chief Mununga

Government has recognized the election of senior chief Mununga of the Shile area of Chienge district in Luapula province.

President Rupiah Banda announced yesterday in Chienge that he has signed the recognition of senior chief Mununga, after the courts disposed of his case in which his election was disputed.

The President was in Chienge to officiate at the Bwilile ceremony of the Bwile people of senior chief Puta’s area.
Mr. Banda said government knows that chieftainship has become a source of conflict in the country because there are people who claim the chieftainship which is not theirs.

He said if government had been slow in recognizing senior chief Mununga it was due to consultation process involved so that it could not make a mistake in its final decision.

The President promised that government would also attend to other problems raised by senior chief Puta concerning chiefs in the due course.

He said to address these issues government was going to do things properly according to the system that is in place.

Earlier senior chief Puta appealed to President Banda to prevail so that government would restore and recognize the chieftainship of four traditional rulers in his area.

The senior chief said four of his subordinate chiefs lost their recognition in 1953 due to individual inabilities.
He named the affected chiefs as Kalembwe, Chikwame, Chipungu and Mwabu.

He said the recognition of the four chiefs is important to Chienge area as to will easy his burden discharging traditional responsibilities single handed involving a large area.

  1. This chi rupiah trying to bring as many chiefs on his side in the hope tht these hungry peasants wil bring as many of their so called subjects to vote for him. What a bloody crook and wht a kaponya of president. He has brought the Zambian presidency into disrepute. I feel so ashamed to be a Zambian and indeed for allowing this foolish old bugger to carry on like this.

  2. I am just saying, the government had no choice in the matter, Mununga has the biggest laboratory in Katele technology in the country. They sell ubwanga at the market, the late Chief wanted to close down this Market, but he started off going to close the market, he got lost, couldn’t find the market, go figure! Just an after thot, what the same can happen to Vasco da Banda, if they could make him fail to get out of Munuga, I am just saying.

  3. Is this another cheap ploy by Got to try and secure votes, people wake up.Do not be decived.
