Lusaka District Commissioner (DC) Christa Kalulu said this at a press briefing in Lusaka today, adding that 30 people are still receiving treatment at various cholera centers in the district.
Ms. Kalulu however said no deaths have been recorded from the 334 cholera cases.
She attributed this to the good and sound policy which the Lusaka District Disaster Management team, the council and other stakeholders have put in place.
She said the district has since disbursed K2.4 billion to various constituencies in Lusaka district to deal with disaster related problems.
Ms. Kalulu said Lusaka City Council has since embarked on the cleaning campaign of townships to reduce the effects of cholera.
She said the council was currently cleaning Mandevu, Kanyama, Chipata and Kalingalinga compounds in Lusaka.
Ms. Kalulu said her office was also working with the defense forces and other stakeholders in constructing drainage systems in the city.
She said Zambia National Service (ZNS) and the Zambia Army have provided excavators, tippers and other machinery to help with drains.
Meanwhile, two houses have collapsed in Chunga township following the heavy rains that were experienced in the area last week.
Ms. Kalulu said her office has since organized tents from the Zambia Red Cross Society (ZRCS) to help the affected families before a permanent solution to their plight was found.

Some bloggers are probably caught in the wake of cholera because I have noticed some verbal diarrhoea recently on LSKTimes. Mukazi tulula mushe guys. I like the way the say Cholera broke out , as if it’s some prisoner on the run.

If one was to say this Country is like a headless chicken would that be a lie. Zimbabwe’s unconfirmed reports that over 2000 have died of cholera now we are told right here in Lusaka 300 cases have been recorded. Bane are we seriously or just playing sheep sheep come? I wonder what is going in that cholera infected Local Govt Minister, lets see what he’s going to do now? We Citizens also not need to wait for an outbreak before we react lets try by all means to keep the country clean otherwise the rubbish is thrown by us. Too bad every year we are talking about the same issue must be a big roundabout we are on.

It’s the same old story of cholera, year after year. The authorities should look for a permanent solution to this problem. For example, why wait for rain season to start running around with excavators and tippers. Such works can be done before the onset of rains.
Hygiene is core in such issues and therefore should not only be preached during rain season but throughout the year.
Cholera is now an annual event. We were busy trying to rebuke President Mugabe.

I stand to be corrected, is street vending illegal in Zed? Street vendor constitute the majority of culprits when it comes to rubbish, why can’t the law takes it course. Look at the Mazabuka issue, the Council is fully aware of drinking places that operate illegally and when the law is enforced, the bloody sods run riot. It’s high time when had law and order in Zambia and the Govt should not be held at ransom because certain sectors always cry foul citing unemployment as a the reason. Then even us taxpayers should be given incentives because I am bloody tired of heavily taxed for nothing. I could use those millions plus to buy fertilizer for Banene in the village.

Where is MMD Chief Bootlicker??? I would have loved him to comment on this epidemic of cholera in Lusaka!!
I am not privileged to live in the Diaspora, but I travel queit a bit and fall on LT for news regularly………….How can one differentiate this epidemic to the Zim situation, mind you in Zim they are under sunctions and nothing to very little comes in form of donor assistance whereas Zambia receives huge grants for such epidemics.
IS IT SHOCKING?WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?WE BLACKS HAVE HALF BRAINS EFIING HELL!!! EVERY YEAR CHOLERA IT’S REALLY EMBARRASING FOR WHOEVER IN OFFICE.
Fellow zedians, our government needs to come up with some strategic long term plan to curb this scourge once and for all. The problem we have pa zed is that every bit of our lives have become politicised. There is need to let professionals deal with these issues unlike seeing a minister in a suit clearing garbage heaps in soweto market for half a minute TV ad. This is a life process and deserves seriousness.Cholera is preventable and can be eradicated pa zed.
