  1. I am sure it was a good game and the result does not give false confidence to our boys. It will be hard in SA but anything can happen in football. Next time ZNBC should inform us on time, I could not see the results for a long time.

  2. wow, South Africa is going to demolish Zambia. Its not even funny anymore. But I’m sure they tried, we just need to worry about 2010, forget about Ghana ’08.

  3. I somewhat agree with #3, South Africa are rebuilding a good side. With the excellent performance they exhibited against Scotland despite narrowlly losing 0-1 on Wednesday, I see no reason why Bafana Bafana cant give Zambia a thorough hiding come next month. Ghana 2008 is out of site for Zambia, its over now. Bafana Bafana are building a very good side. They have something to prove and show to the world. They have a world class coach whom they do not want to dissapoint and he himself (Parreira) does not want to be embarrassed, and they are hosting 2010 WC. They want to start this success story with Ghana 2008. So they will definitely not give us a chance in the coming match in Cape Town.
Now the way forward: Lets invest in the under 20 and under 23 startning now for 2010, its never too late. It appears the senior national team does not have what it takes to succeed. Africa for the first time will have Six representatives in 2010. So surely Zambia should be among these. Cheers.

  4. Continued,
My understanding is that even if we are to qualify, we would be eliminated in the first round as it has been a trend in recent Africa Cup Tournaments, thereby waisting valuable tax payers money. I am not saying this because we lost to Togo, but this has always been my story. Like I said lets look at the U-20 and U-23. We should be able to come up with a good blend of players from the U-20, U-23 and senior team for 2010. Preparations should begin now. Remember we are also hosting All-Africa games in 2011. So all this should be part of this programme. Lets not look at the past failures, there is always light in the future, or at the end of the tunnel as they say. Lets not give up hope. But as the situation is we do not have a team. Come 2010 with good preparation, we will have a good side.

  5. # 3,if we forget 2008 then we wont make it for 2010.# 4/5 South Africa seems to have a good team but they cant score.Anything is possible in soccer.I still believe Zambia has a very good team and we will beat Bafana Bafana.

  6. ATTENTION ALL SOUTH AFRICAN BASED ZAMBIANS, THERE IS A BUS ARRANGED FROM JHB TO CAPE TOWN AND BACK.THIS IS FOR THE GAME BETWEEN ZAMBIA AND SA. THE PACKAGE IS INCLUSIVE OF ACCOMMODATION , TRANSPORT UP TO THE STADIUM,VENUE AND BACK TO JHB. THE COST IS R 1,600.00. CONTACT ZASA (Zambia South Africa Association).
LETS ALL DO IT FOR CHIPOLOPOLO BANE.FORGET THE CRITICS LETS GO AND SEE OUR BOYS WHIP THE SO CALLED BAFANA.

  7. Firstly, congratulations to zam U-23. Job well done. Now to the national team. My fellow zambians brothers why is it that RSA managed to call all their foreign basesd players for the scotland friendly and zambia failed to follw suit. Well the simple reason is this Faz is always looking for the cheaper way out. They are always calling the RSA proffesionals and rarely call all the foreign based players. This was a chance for Patrick to make some changes. For instance he could have tried Edwin Phiri from sweden at left back and see if he could do a better job than Musonda. Faz are simply failures relying on luck all the time. If they can pay Tossi where are they taking there money. An association like FECAFOOT from cameroon can manage to bring 18 pros for a friendly why not Faz.They are alway calling mbesuma, mulenga and katongo. What about the others?

  8. #7 My dear brother be realistic. If Faz call the same failures we will lose. One thing I can tell you is that Faz lack seriousness. The selection of the national team is poorly done.In my opinion football is not just about skill but about size. Look at rainford kalaba he cant play in Europe because he is too small. Lameck Njovu is another example. You cant go to the Africa Cup with Lameck in midfield. Do you expect him to contain a 6ft Mamadou Diara(mali and real madrid). This is why zambia lost 4-1 to tunisia. You could tell that zambian players had no pysique. Now how can you continue to leave out Mishek lungu a 6ft Moses Sichone and many others.Look at Makelele from France he may be short but look at his build. My point is bring the all pros and only blend them with the best local players who not only meet the skill requirement but the build requirement as well.

  9. The Togo friendly asside. The South Africa encounter relives bad memories to me_our 3_0 loss we suffered in JHB thereby failing to make it to France 98.In our team we had the likes of GREAT KALU,Davis Phiri,Elijah Litana and many more great names and they had Phil Masinga,Mark Fish and others.Prior to this match, Zambia at their own backyard(independence)struggled to come from behind a 0_1 SA in the lead to level 1-1 at fulltime. The match was live on Tv.At the end of the match Denis Liwewe in his usuall trademark voice commented,”How are we going to beat them in Johansberg if we can’t beat them here?”I wonder if you bloggers also recall what I recall.

  10. Whatever you say, you will be shocked in Cape Town. We do not have a good team. This is because of poor selection. I will still stick to my point. We do not have a team capable of going to Ghana as the situation is. Cho-Australia is spot on.

  12. NO 4/5 anything is possible in soccer.SA has no strikers and their defence is not strong. if we take the game to them we can beat them even 3-0.I am going to Capetown to watch the game. We only have one Chipolopolo lets support our boys.

  13. #14, You are lying when you SA defence is weak. I totally disagree unless you say you are blind. SA defence and midfield is far better than ours. Yes the strickig force is weak. They only have two strikers Sibusisi Zuma (Suspended for the Zambia game) and McCarthy (On Boycott or is it retired). But they still have players who can cause an upset such as Delron Buckley, Siyabonga Nomvete and Thembinkosi “Terror” Fanteni. I am supporting Bafana, but I know the kind of team we have. If we win it will be a bonus. But again we have to win by 2 unanswered goals, as SA has a far better goal difference than us. Its a mammoth task ahead.

  14. Correction,
The statement Line four should read, I am not supporting Bafana, but I know the kind of team we have.

  15. I wish Lusaka Times could show some of the contributions from the lads on this blog to the people in Faz.I bet some of the stuff would honestly help them.Only a third of the players who played against Togo will play against South Africa. It looks like even the guys in South Africa didn’t make it to Togo.South Africa had all their players against Scotland, Togo had everybody.Patrick Phiri is being let down by his employers, this is crap from Faz.We are tired, the ‘Post’ says the guys in Europe couldn’t come because of flight problems but C.Mbesuma spoke to Chishala Musonda ‘Daily mail’ saying he couldn’t come cos he had a strained Tendon.
Team selection also is another issue as the other guys have said on this blog. Before the Chad game the were appeals to bring in guys like M.Sichone, I.Chansa, C.Nsofwa etc.Cho # 8 i agree Edwin Phiri can do a good job on L.Back.M.Sichone is doing well for club so is Chansa we need stature and size in the team.
    In conclusion Faz is disorganized.

  16. If our strikers are at their best we can beat SA.I have confidence in Mbesuma and Chris ,they just need to die a little . If we remain Focused we shall overcome. # 15 you can support Bafana all you want.It just shows you are not a chipolopolo fan. We respect that .Just stop saying i know what team we have (meaning Chipolopolo if you are supporting Bafana)

  17. # 18, Can you read #16. I have every right and freedom to say what I want. I dont support Bafana and never will.

  18. Losing to Togo? Shame. I don’t have much in the line of comments right now, would love to travel to CPT to watch, but finances and academics cannot allow. Would just like to ask, where can we meet as JHB based Zambians to watch the game on TV, get drunk and network? Lets start making arrangements. I’m in Braamfontien/Parktown myself.

  19. #11 DAVY CHILE… Just a point of correction, that game Zed vs Bafana in Zambia was nil-nil and not 1-1.Denis Lota in that game missed alot of clear cut chances with just Andre Arendse to beat.I remember that Charles Musonda flew in for that game but Kalusha couldn`t risk attention to switch to Charlie cool and hence Charlie didn`t even feature.FAZ came up with a fake excuse of Charlie being injured.Otherwise, for this game in Capetown,I wouldn`t be surprised if Zambia carries the day because these chaps tend to perform wonders when you least expect them.Zed against Chad everyone expected us to carry the day but we were held to a draw and we never expected Zed to emphatically beat Congo at Konkola stadium just after coming out of a barren nil nil draw in Congo. It was different with the team that perished in 1993,that team beat the teams we expected to beat and even performed beyond expectations.Had it not been for that tragedy we could have qualified to world cup.Anyway..GO ZAMBIA GO.

  20. Forget about Togo, we are going to beat SA. Psychologically we are at an advantage because we lost with a bigger margin to an African team compared to SA who narrowly lost to the Scots. We are hungry for a win .Their striking force is pathetic, i mean look at Nomvete, Moriri, those boys cant score even if the goal post was open.# 15 is right Their Defence is solid we just need to take the game to them wave of attack after another.Cyril Nzama is a weak link in their defence our boys should capitalise on him.Can the Chipolopolo fans also organise a plane to CPT like our friends in JHB. Chipolopolo iyee

  21. Has anyone got an idea where we can get the Chipolopolo accessories, the flags, the caps , T- Shirts etc in Cape Town or Jo’burg? FAZ or the Chipolopolo fans assocition should look at this avenue also.

  22. I have always thought an international friendly is a match where you can use the players you intend to use but to look at the players that were selected for the Togo game it really brought a lot of questions as to weather we really wanted to beat Bafana Bafana. Based on the Togo outing a hardcore Chipolopolo fan like myself would wonder if the tax payers money is being put in good use. I totally agree someone would said that skill is not enough alone but size really matter if we are playing west

  23. When playing the west Africans we need well built and skilled players especially in the midfield. But for the SA, FAZ should consider some of Zambia’s favorite sons ig: C. Nsofwa, I. Chansa, I. Bakala, M. Lungu, A. Sinkala, M. Sichone, E. Phiri just mention a few. Guys its time we let FAZ know that we’re not happy with how they represent us by sorting them one by one by this I mean beating them up if they don’t listen to how suggestions.

  24. Strasbourg sign Mulenga on loan

Jacob Mulenga scored seven goals in Ligue Two last season
Zambia striker Jacob Mulenga has joined French Ligue One club Strasbourg on loan until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old sealed the deal from Ligue Two side Chateauroux on Friday.

“Jacob Mulenga is a player who has a very huge potential,” president of Strasbourg Philippe Ginestet said.

“We have been following him for a long time and we are very happy that he has finally signed the loan deal.”

Mulenga scored seven goals in 38 Ligue Two appearances last season.

  25. #25.The best way to sort out FAZ is NOT by physically beating them but just have independent auditors check their books and anyone found wanting should be locked up.There`s so much gross mismanagement within the ranks of FAZ.The other thing is they don`t have any progressive plans to run soccer in the nation.Fans are interested in buying authentic replica jerseys’,flags, scuffs, dvds and so many other things that hype people`s interest in soccer but FAZ can`t step up to the plate and cash in on such available funds. All they`re interested in is just grants from the gov and well wishers which they even plunder. The lads should just focus on the game at hand and bring glory to the nation.GO ZAMBIA GO

  26. Justice #27, Do provide us with the source of Jacob joining Strasbourg on loan. If its true, then that will be good for him to play top flight football in France Ligue 1. Thats a good platform to showcase his talent to big clubs in Europe. He’s got what it takes, he’s tall and well built and Im sure he will succeed.

  27. Never change a wining team, Phiri you have chosen a wrong time to experiment players. This has costed you your name believe me you are hiting yourself in knees. Though I didnt watch the match losing its brings bad memory and takes away pride.

  28. Can they please include Jacob Mulenga in the side against South Africa. If we have any chance at all, the least they can do is field the strongest team possible. I thought that is a simple coaching strategy. S.A came and whooped Zambia in our own backyard… God help us in Cape Town.

  29. Aba bafikala ba FAZ bafwaikwafye ukubaponanona pantu kale twantapa ukulandapo. Teddy Mulonga and the all entire group Kalusha included I’ll be watching all your movements with an extra eye bafikala imwe you should all resign immediate effect twa sebana pafula.

  30. # 27 that is good because it means zambia having 3 sons playing for top flight clubs in Europe. Jacob, Chris and Collins are good strikers and they can cause problems to any team. FAZ just needs to get its act together. I watched South Africa play Scotland and it could easily have won that match, had they had good strikers. South Africa has a fairly good midfield and defence marshalled by Aeron Mokoena and Morris Nassief. For Cyril Nzama, I remember Katongo used to beat him to the ball like a child. Weather With proper preparations or not Zamabia is going to carry the day, we have the arsenal. Do you remember when the then Zaire came with 8-11 Professional players and zambia had 4 – kalusha, Msiska, Stone and charles and beat zaire 4-2. South Africa can have its professionals, but they like that finishing touch. Our strikers have to be at their 100 accuracy in shhoting at goal. With Mbesuma, Chris, Jacob, songew, Chamanga, I see no way out for SA.

  31. OUr national soccer team is not bad, am sure we did not have a songle pro in Togo. Zambia lacks proper quality friendly matches. FAz is a big let down. Please soccer fans in Zambia, demonstrate against FAZ to show our disgust at their maladministration. The team needs one more quality friendly match with all its pros before playing South Africa.

  32. #34 The only part the Zambian game needs to improve is the defence and midfield, but I am sure 1000 % that Nyambe Mulenga, Clive Sichonde and Hichane Himoonde will make some the best defenders on the Zed soccer scene since the days of Makwaza, Chama and Musenge, beleive me u we are on the right path. Viva Zed, viva, viva Justice Viva.

  34. Strasbourg are today playingthird from bottom Lens,Mulenga is likely to play as a subconsidering the fact that he only joined them yesterday. Looking forward to the game

  35. Zambia’s Mulenga Moves To Strasbourg

Zambia striker Jacob Mulenga has moved to French Ligue One club Strasbourg.
He will spend a season-long loan spell with Strasbourg after reaching a deal from Ligue Two club Chateauroux on Friday.Strasbourg president, Philippe Ginestet, is one who is aware about the player’s potentials.”Jacob Mulenga is a player who has a very huge potential,” said Ginestet.
“We have been following him for a long time and we are very happy that he has finally signed the loan deal.” The 23-year-old striker scored seven goals in thirty-eight appearances last season

  36. ZAMBIA’S chess ace Amon Simutowe needs 1.5 points to get his third and final grand master norm that could see him become the third black chess player to be crowned grand master.

This follows his heart stopping win over grand master Fridrik Olafsson of the Iceland in the sixth round of the on-going Max Euwe invitational tournament in the Netherlands.

The win takes Simutowe’s points tally to 5.5 out of six following his five victories and one draw so far.

Simutowe, whose expected score before the tournament started was put at 4.5 out of nine, now only needs 1.5 points out of the last three rounds to get his third grand master norm.

“This was a tough match for me even though I won in just over three hours. GM Olafsson was ahead on time as I was trying to make sure that I don’t make a mistake. In the end, Olafsson realised I was in a winning position and he resigned,” Simutowe said.

The Zambian chess International Master said he was elated by the result but indicated he would try not to let the win get to his head.
“I need 1.5 points out of the three rounds to get the GM norm but nothing is really guaranteed yet. Every game is quite a big challenge and it won’t be over until it’s over,” Simutowe said.

GM Olafsson got his grand master title in 1958 and was at one point the president of the International Chess Federation (FIDE).

“I play female grandmaster Bianca Muhren tomorrow (today). She is very strong but I hope to have a good run,” said Simutowe.

A win against Bianca would put Simutowe just half a point from earning the coveted grand master title to make him the first black grand master in sub-Saharan Africa .

So far, there are only two black grand master in the world; one American and the other a Swede.

  37. I am pleased to learn of Jacob’s move to Strasbourg. This is a positive development. Keep it up, we are behind you.

  38. In order to improve you have to admit your shortfalls, ba zambia ma kula in terms of the way the sport has moved on globally – plain and simple! Even countries like Zimbabwe and Malawi have had boys playing real divisions like the premiership.

Accept what we are and make a meaningfull recovery strategy for the future, only then will there be success. By future I don’t mean 2010 – forget it!!! This should be a strategy targeting youth football as the future. The “sembe” culture should be done away with!

  39. I think we have no coach. We have so quickly become Togo’s whipping boys when these were nonentities just four years ago. Coaches wont help us in Cape Town so lets just sit down and pray that all the luck in the world will come our way and we will be able to score three goals without reply. So shall it be.
