Faz names Cosafa Castle Cup team

Share

Zambia named a uninspiring 19-man team to face Mozambique in their Cosafa Castle cup semifinal doubleheader match to be played on September 29 at Super Stadium, Atleridgevile, South Africa.

They were no interesting inclusions of promising junior internationals in a squad that includes nine foreign-based on a list that includes a rare call-up for former Kabwe Warriors striker Noah Chivuta of South African Premier Soccer League team Wits University.

Also included in the team is defender Kampamba Chintu of Mvela League Free State Stars.

Chintu returns to the team for a second successive game after playing for Zambia in their 3-1 away win over South Africa on September 9 in their last Africa Cup Group 11 qualifier played in Cape Town.

Other foreign based players in the team are South African include Chintu’s club mate and Zambia first choice goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene including defender Billy Mwanza of Lamotville Golden Arrows.

Faz also called cup Angolan based players Ian Bakala and Felix Katongo and striker Adubelo Phiri.

Meanwhile, their was a recall for Green Buffaloes midfielder Boston Mwanza while Roan United goalkeeper Mufwaya Makasa has been dropped.

Camping dates and venue will be announced later by Faz and Fighton Simunkonda will be in charge of the team in the absence of head coach Patrick Phiri who is currently away on a five-week course in Germany .

Zambia are the COSAFA Castle Cup defending champions after beating fellow three-time champions Angola 2-0 on October 21,2006 at Independence Stadium.

The other COSAFA Castle Cup semifinal match next week will see 2002 winners South Africa take on Botswana who will be making their second successive last four appearances.

  1. No this is not right. I am very disgusted by this. This was the chance to try new blood. It is imperative that we widen our selection so as to have a stronger team. Why are the people in Faz so dull?

  2. It’s okay we need to use this tournament to groom new talent.

By the way FATBOY MBESUMA at it again.(POST story) All those you supported him on this blog last time I raised the issue ..what do you have to say now. This guy is not performing for both Zambia and his club because of lack of discipline and it shows on the pitch and they keep selecting him just because he scored 3 goals in Chad. It’s about time we dump FATBOY till he starts banging in goals. All the guy thinks about is going to Luanshya and make more babies. Come on coaches, drop this guy. Talent alone is not enough.

  3. Argentina and Brazil are perfect examples of nations that never play the same old faces in every tournament. As a result, they end up fielding powerfull teams at world cups because they are aware of everyone’s ability having looked at everyone. Now we are always fielding the same team. What if Billy Mwanza is injured who will replace him? I am sure Faz have no idea to that question because they have never tried new blood. This is not the nations cup. Why has the first choice keeper been selected? Faz you are so dull.

  4. I agree with number 2. I must admit I tried to back Mbesuma because he is an extremely talented player. However, it seems fame has gone into this guys head. He thinks he can do whatever he wishes without permission. In addition, he has become lazy. He’s lost the hunger from previous years to put the ball into the back of the net. I think he should be put on the bench for a while then he will wake up.He needs to start scoring in turkey because we are running out of patience.

  5. This makes me sick in my stomach, let Faz know that it’s not just about winning tournaments that you start using recycled players,a year later who’s gonna defend it and come on now whats cosafa anyways that you can’t risk using the talent of young U23 as we build for SA 2010,soccer it’snt all about strong bones alone like the list of the players called but it takes more than skills like more of the many young players we have around not yet exposed, think twice Faz there is still time I do know you want to keep your impressive record win,win but are your same veteran players be around 12 months from now i don’t think so just give young lads a chance period.

  6. We understand your frustrations but the uestion is “can you change the team?” The resounding answer is no.

Way forward: Lets support the selected team as it represents Zambia. For me the only thing that makes me happy is the selection of Noah Chivuta who, of late, has been in a very fine form for his team and this call has been long over due.

I will be at the stadium to support the boys.

However, for the future FAZ needs to include development players from the under-23 and under-20 teams

  8. #8 Kemps u r right. We should support the team regardless of the players selected. Iam sure the technical bench and FAZ had good reasons for the selected players. Since the tournament will be held here in SA, i think it is a wise decision to include as many SA based players as possible. Kemps, see you at the stadium.

  9. Well maybe if Faz are looking to win this cup then their selection should do the job. I still feel for a tournament like this new blood has to be fused into the team. By the way who is coaching Zambia?

  10. OK I agree FAZ ought to include players from the U20/23 teams but can someone here name players from these two sides that deserved to be included in this Team. As for Mbesuma I have a feeling this could mark the begining of his downfall. The fact is he will never change cause his behaviour reflects the way he was brought up. I know in Turkey he will be fired on the spot should he repeat that

  11. Another sad day for English football. In an unexpected move, Jose Mario Dos Santos Mourinho Felix has resigned as Chelsea manager after a shock 1-all draw against unfancied Rosenborg from Norway.

It is a sad loss to the English league as Jose added value and competitivenes the premiership and especially the funny side of competition.

He is lost to the premiership but he goes with one of the best records ever set by any manager in the premiership (185 games: 124 wins,40 draws and only 21 loses) He never lost a home game since he took over at Stamford Bridge.

I am sure coaching offers from clubs will come flying into his face. Although I support Arsenal, he was my favourite premiership manager for the reasons below

    Quotations
“Please don’t call me arrogant, but I’m European champion and I think I’m a special one.” [21]
“There are only two ways for me to leave Chelsea. One way is in June 2010 when I finish my contract and if the club doesn’t give me a new one. It is the end of my contract and I am out. The second way is for Chelsea to sack me. The way of the manager leaving the club by deciding to walk away, no chance! I will never do this to Chelsea supporters.” – when asked if success in the Carling Cup final might mean the last trophy he would win for Chelsea.[22]
“We have top players and, sorry if I’m arrogant, we have a top manager.”
“If I wanted to have an easy job…I would have stayed at Porto – beautiful blue chair, the UEFA Champions League trophy, God, and after God, me.”[23]
“As we say in Portugal, they brought the bus and they left the bus in front of the goal.” – after a 0-0 draw with Tottenham Hotspur
“If he helped me out in training we would be bottom of the league and if I had to work in his world of big business, we would be bankrupt.” – on Chelsea F.C. owner Roman Abramovich[24]
“I saw their players and manager go for a lap of honour after losing to us in their last home game. In Portugal if you do this, they throw bottles at you.” – on Manchester United
“Pressure? What pressure? Pressure is poor people in the world trying to feed their families. Working from dawn till dust just to feed their young. There is no pressure in football” – speaking in a post-match interview
“Everybody wants Chelsea to lose a game. When they do they should declare a public holiday.” – Speaking in a press conference about Chelsea’s leading Premiership start in the 2005-06 season
“We are on top at the moment but not because of the club’s financial power. We are in contention for a lot of trophies because of my hard work.”
“You have to wonder why they did that penalty. Because they have so many penalties in the season, that’s why. They have to do something special and different.” – on Arsenal’s penalty mix-up in October 2005
“I think he is one of these people who is a voyeur. He likes to watch other people. There are some guys who, when they are at home, have a big telescope to see what happens in other families. He speaks, speaks, speaks about Chelsea.” – on Arsène Wenger
“I am more scared of bird flu than football. What is football compared with life? I have to buy some masks and stuff – maybe for my team as well.” – Speaking soon after H5N1 spread to Britain, and when Chelsea’s league lead over Manchester United had slipped to 7 points[25]
“It’s not the Premiership, it’s not the FA cup, it’s not the Champions League but its still a cup and we must respect it” – speaking about the Carling Cup. Full article.
“Pavel NedvÄ›d, Paul Scholes, Luís Figo have all retired from international football. With the Czechs, England and Portugal it is ok, but France? They don’t have liberty. It is unbelievable. Makélélé is not a footballer, he is a slave. He has no human rights, no right to choice or liberty, so he is a slave. But the rules are there, so what can we do?” – criticizing France coach Raymond Domenech for calling up Claude Makélélé for Euro 2008 qualifiers, after Makélélé announced his retirement from international football after the 2006 FIFA World Cup. However, rules by FIFA state that players who refuse a selection on their national team could be suspended from their professional clubs. The use of “slave” in Mourinho’s press release was criticized by Domenech and France captain Patrick Vieira [2]
Wikiquote has a collection of quotations related to:
José Mourinho”Look, we’re not entertaining? I don’t care; we win.” – on Chelsea’s performance at the start of the 2006-07 season
“The circumstances are difficult for us with the new football rules that we have to face. It is not possible to have a penalty against Manchester United and it is not possible to have penalties in favour of Chelsea. It is not a conspiracy, it is fact. I speak facts. If not, I need big glasses.” – commenting after Chelsea had a penalty appeal turned down during a game against Newcastle, a day after Middlesbrough had a controversial penalty turned down against Manchester United. [3]
“Young players are a little bit like melons. Only when you open and taste the melon are you 100 percent sure that the melon is good.Sometimes you have beautiful melons but they don’t taste very good and some other melons are a bit ugly and when you open them, the taste is fantastic.” – Mourinho’s melon metaphor on young players, 9 Jun 2007
Omelette, eggs. No eggs, no omelettes. It depends on the quality of the eggs. In the supermarket you have eggs, class one, class two, class three. Some are more expensive than others, and some give you better omelettes. When the class one eggs are in Waitrose and you cannot go there, you have a problem. – Mourinho on his Chelsea squad the day he parted company with the team, 17 September 2007

  12. I feel the team is relatively balanced,as the coach has t take precautionary measures of including under20/23, who still do not have that experience of the such competetition at that level. The coach also has to consider the plyers’ fatigue as the under20/23 will have their matches soon. generally the team is all round. Chivuta deserves a call up, others that have been called need to be tried too. Its a good team.
