Zesco United opened up a 10-point gap at the summit for the Faz Premier League when they beat hosts Power Dynamos 2-1 away at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe this afternoon in delayed week 24 game.

The two teams were level at 1-1 when they went into the break with Zesco scoring first through midfielder Rainford Kalaba before Power striker Elson Mukandawire equalized.

Zesco made sure of the points to move from 53 to 56 points with the winner scored by defender Rogers Kamwandi.

The Ndola club is five games away from collecting its first ever league title and have produced some commanding performances this season under coach Wedson Nyirenda who took charge of the team this term.

Chasing Zesco in second place are Kabwe Warriors who are on 46 points.

Both teams are in BP Top 8 action this weekend with Warriors hosting Power and Zesco awaiting Zanaco on Saturday.

There will be no top-flight football this weekend but all lower division matches will be played.

  1. Hell guys, just want to find out what the scores were in the other game in Zambia’s under 23 Olympic qualifier group. I know Zambia drew.

  2. Well done ‘team ya ziko’. I hope they win this year’s league title.Iam sure it can be the first Zambian team to play in CAF champions league group stage. Pliz teach Kalampa a lesson in the coke final so that they know where they belong.

One of these days, come up here and watch Zesco play. There is nothing special to talk about. These guys struggled to beat Riflemen, a division 1 outfit, in the prequarters of the Barcklays.
    Long Live Kalampa.

  4. Well, I cannot say much.Lets wait for the final day and the truth shall be revealed.Lets go ZESCO!!! Electrocute the ‘scarlet devils’. ZESCO uwaikatako..apya.

  6. BB are outside the top 70 in the world and yet they have players in the premiership. That is crap these guys are favoured too much.

  7. 4. Guinea (30)
I didn’t know Guinea was that good to be number 30 in the world. What have they done to have such high rankings?

I also noticed something ‘Arthur Davies Stadium’, why have we hang on to colonial names…Rhodespark, Longacres, Woodlands, Livingstone, Victoria falls etc etc?

Why?? Can somebody pliz explain to me why it’s like this?

Is this the mentality of thinking that anything western is better than our local names and cultures?

  8. Yes even Chalimbana Stadium is better than Arthur Davies Stadium…although I would go for names like Kalusha Bwalya Stadium…Kalu has done alot for Zambian football.

  9. #13. Leave Arthur Davies alone. In any case, you did not build it for you to dictate what name to give it. Build your own stadium and name it whatever you wish!!!

  10. #13 That is the problem with people like you who started following football, after getting on a free bus to Lusaka to mourn the national team after the Gabon disaster. Arthur Davies made immense contribution to the development of football on the copperbelt.Power Dynamos and his name were inseparable in the 80s. Ask those of us who have followed football from time Zed got independence.

Anyway, as Born Rich said build your own stadium and name it whatever you want. It’s free market economy. I think we need 9 more new stadiums to host the World Cup in 2030. SO there is room there and leave Arthur Davies alone.

  11. Yes some countries are highly favoured in Fifa rankings. Mali has for a long time remained among the top ten depsite their poor showing. Its still number ten yet it has not played a match to warrant such a ranking. Even Cameroun and Nigeria do not deserve such high ranking. Nigeria was gouped with minors like lesotho, uganda etc and after beating these teams, they get a very high ranking number1, number 2, what a rubbish! The teams that deserves the number one ranking in Africa are Ivory Coast and Ghana. The fifa rankings stink!

  12. #13 The name Arthur Davies has nothing to do with colonialism but everything to do with soccer.

It is always important to research on topics before you expose yourself to the gallary. Arthur Davies is reknowned for making Power Dynamoes a face to reckon with in the 1980s and he went further to form Circuit Chiefs the team that later become known as Mulungushi Chiefs.

Mr. Davies’contribution to Zambian soccer is so immense that I feel personally insulted when people with little or no knowledge of Zambian soccer begin to demean him in this way.

Next you want to contribute, get the facts correct so as to save your soul

  13. I have a lot of misgivings regarding the FIFA rankings. It looks like they use dodge criteria for ranking teams and therefore does not really reflect the correct ratings of these teams. Good example is Morocco being ranked better than both Angola and Zambia

  14. Arthur Davis # 13, is not a colonial name! Davis was GM for CPC in Kitwe and sponsored “Power ’90” from the lower divisions of Zambian football leagues climbing yearly until they reached Premier league (perhaps no other team achieved that feat in Zambia’s history). Before we took over running the stadium it was the best ground in Zambia that we used to refer to as “carpet” and Davis did a good job. It is sad that the man who was there in the 1980s is referred to as “colonial!” Besides, keeping some historical names is not bad in itself and raising such issues go to show how discriminatory even ourselves could be if our understanding is not backed by facts.
