ZAMBIA LOSE 4-1 IN ANDALUSIA

Share

The Zambia national team on Thursday night lost 4-1 to the Andalusia Regional national team in Jerez, Spain.

Andalusia, missing big name La Liga players like Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos and Valencia striker Joaquin and Sevilla attacker Jesus Nava, took a 2-1 lead into the break after Christopher Katongo had given Zambia the lead in the 9th minute.

Arzu leveled scores before Barral gave Andalusia the lead via a penalty.

Del Moral made it 3-1 after the restart before Gallardo completed the host’s day with the fourth.

Zambia face Tunisia in their next friendly match on January 6 in Tunisia then wrap-up against Morocco also away on the 12th before heading to Ghana ahead of their Opening Africa Cup Group C match against Sudan on the 22nd in Kumasi.

  1. Pull up your socks guys otherwise we will stop watching football. Twanako kulumba amakula. As for Katongo pliz keep it up

  2. This will definately make the team work harder as they will now realise that there are no easy games. i also hope our bigger names join the squad before we play Tunisia and Morroco

  3. This whacking tells us something about our defence. Billy Mwanza should shut up about marking Eto if provincial players can “wheeze” past him. The strike force looks confident. Let them learn some endurance.

  4. Well I am shocked, but this should have given coach Phiri a chance to to look at the players, we have players who were missing, two of our best defenders did not play, one of our best midfielders did play, two of our best stikers did not play, so maybe there is hope, but I have began to get worried, 4-1 is a bashing friendly or not, our opponemts “Cameroon” managed a draw in Spain as well (1 all). I would like to the lineup

  5. Tapali fikachitika lets stop fooling ourselves. We’ll be knocked out mu first round. There’s no seriousness in this country and we shouldn’t expect miracles from the boys. Chris Katongo umwaiche is talented, yes, but we know he can do better if we invested in him. Besides, olo abe umukali he cant do it alone. Our investment in the sport is zero, and zero is what we shall reap.

  12. It is a good thing we lost in my opinion and guys it is not the end of the world yet. Stop discouraging the boys you chaps. We will overcome this loss>

  13. This was a training game ,it’s fine we lost this is an indicator to the Coach that he has a lot of work to do.The team needs fine tuning. Its too early to push panic buttons.

  14. This is why we need friendly matches in order to identify players and to gauge the team, although 4-1 is too much a score line anyway. Players and the coaching staff need to pull up their socks if they are to realise their dreams in Ghana. A loss in Tunisia will lower the confidence.

  15. guys, lets not be our usual selves here. we seem to turn our backs on our team the moment that they lose a game, even though its a training game.Coach hasnt even formulated his actual playing squad and we are quick to put the lads down. If any of the boys log onto this site, do u think they would feel encouraged? lets be optimistic. We are ranked 10th in africa, and (65) in the world , actaully out of 201 countries. south africa(77), with all their facilities, sudan(92), angola(73) are all

  16. further back in the rankings. We have diminished a little since the 1995′-1996 period when we had hit the top 20 rating, but alot has happened with our football domestically. The big parastatals that used to support our local talent are no more, so grassroot level football has declined. We have a great chance to come in as undergogs and surprise the masses. As a True Fan, you have to take the bitter with the sweet. Lets Unite and rally behind our boys. There are worse things than a 4-1 loss.

  17. Good result for Zambia at this time after facing formadable opposition in a friendly.I know that fans have been used to seeing Zambia clobbering teams like the Midlands select and other weak teams before major tournaments which doesn`t help our team in any way. This has exposed our weaknesses that need to urgently rectified before the AFCON.

  18. It was the first time they were really playing together after a long time, give ’em a break. Now Phiri knows he has to work on his defence. Come 2008, Zambia is winning the Africa Cup and will qualify to South Africa 2010; Watch this space…

  19. Phiri is trying his best but FAZ has a hand into all the preparation. I think football is about practice with formidable opposition in order to guage our strength. Good luck boys. Better things are coming.

  20. If you remember well before the CAN94 tourney we camped in Denmark, played friendlies and lost 9-0 but came out 2nd that year. stop looking down on the boys, they are jellying and I think we will do better in Ghana

  21. One Zambia one nation.Guys let's surport our brothers.Remember they represent our Motherland Zambia and not themselves. We need to rally behind them.Zambia id fi I an I and mi love de country. 22. After beating SA I was attacked here when I said our team is not consistent. I have followed soccer from the 70s deeply. We are what we are! We win here now and then, simple! We are the England of Africa. Friendlies bane are not for Phiri to identify players, but work on a system of play that suits his vision. National team coaches are not responsible for developing talent – its FAz and the teams. I predicted that our team could beat Nigeria any day but lose to Djibouti or Sudan.

  23. #36 your facts are all wrong. Zambia camped in Denmark and reached the finals of the 1994 AFCON, lost 2-1 to Nigeria in the finals, before that we almost qualified for the 1994 World that was held in the USA, but we lost 0-1 in Morocco after we had forgotten to beat Senegal at a neutral ground

  24. Justice #9 We played 4-4-2 against Andalucia: Mweeine; Hachilensa, Nketani, Musonda, Mwanza, Kalaba, Félix Katongo, Kabala, Christopher Katongo, Chamanga

Guys, have a bit of faith in the boys. I know that 4-1 is a big scoreline, but let’s look at a couple of points.

Firstly, we didn’t have our full team out there. We were missing Jacob Mulenga and Mbesuma. Even though Mbesuma is not the player of a couple of years ago he still inspires confidence in his team mates.

Secondly (related to the first), we played a different formation, of late we have been playing 4-3-3 but with the absence of some of our boys PP played 4-4-2.

Thirdly, two of their goals were penalties. I know we shouldn’t give them away, but the fact is that we only conceded 2 goals through open play.

To carry over a discussion from another tread. I am worried about the midfield as I don’t think we have sufficient ‘muscle and height’ in that dept. I think Rainford and the gang will struggle against a big midfield. All the midfielders in camp are small and as evidenced in Egypt 05 we struggle to cope with a physically strong midfield. I hope that Francis Kasonde is part of the travelling party to Ghana as I think we might need his physical presence.

  25. To the optimists, I wish to say that I can only be optimistic if there’s something to be optimistic about. Apa tapali nangufimo. We can win here and there, by sheer chance anyo, but we cant sustain that momentum pantu we haven’t invested in the sport. The “lets wait and see”, “its not the end of the world”, “its too early to tell” jazz is stuff we’ve heard over the decades. Very soon the optimists will start the calculations ati “if shani shani lose against shani shani then we’ve qualified, etc”

  27. Dear Mutino,

I am not deluding myself that we can go and win the tournament, but I think we can give a good account of ourselves. The fact is that we aren’t a consistent team and blow warm and cold all the time, but there are times when the warm is sufficient for us to get to the knock-out stages at a tournament such as ACN.

I agree that not enough investment is going into the sport, but this aspect is improving. We have a sponsored league and cup competitions, some of our clubs such as Zanaco, Power, Zesco, Nchanga, Buffalo’s have sufficient support from sponsors and it seems that some infrastucture is being put up.

I say there is no point in being an armchair critic and simply complaining, why not try to effect some change. Do you go to local matches for example? Even such a small act makes a small difference.

  28. lET US WAIT AND SEE YOU DOOM SAYERS. WAIT AND STOP DISCOURAGING THE BOYS. WHO THOUGHT WE COULD REACH THE FINALS IN 1994. yOU CAME YESTERDAY AND YOU THINK YOU HAVE GAIN ENOUGH WISDOM TO PREDICT THE FUTURE. KEEP QUIET ALL OF YOU. YOU DON’T LISTEN

  29. Chivuta talks on his omission from Zambian squad
    Posted: 2007-12-30 10:56

BidVest Wits midfielder Noah Chivuta is disappointed at having been omitted from the Zambian squad to play at the Nations Cup.

The left-footed attacking midfielder has arguably been the best Zambian in the PSL this season, but strangely the Zambian national team selectors have found no reason to call up the man who has scored six goals playing from midfield.

“Being left out of the squad is disappointing because i

  30. if the selectors were really watching the PSL games and monitoring my performance, I would have obviously been called up.

“I am really amazed because it appears the selectors use a strange system of selection that is in no way related to performances. I wonder if they ever watch the games and get updates of how players are doing.

“I think they select players based on reputation and whether they know them rather than the kind of form they are showing on the field. I know it in my heart tha

  31. that I should have been selected into that squad but all this will not pull me down but instead make me better and motivate me to continue enjoying my club football.

“I think you are called into the team on the basis of being known rather than how you perform at your club.

It is quite bizarre that a player from a struggling Mvela League team is found to be better to do national duty than a player whose team is at the top of the PSL.

“Even James Chamanga had been left out despite havi

  32. having been doing well at Swallows and was only called up at a later stage after the selectors had been made aware of his form,” says Chivuta.

Although saddened by his omission by the selectors with whom he has never been popular, Chivuta is still praying for a good performance from the Chipolopolo.

“Our national team can be so weird at times because when they go in underrated they always do well. They can also be full of surprises and I feel that this time around they will stun some teams

  33. Why hasn`t Zambia ever won the AFCON or even qualified to the WC with all the rich talent available?
You always reap what you sow.Failure to plan is planning to fail.
FAZ should be serious in the running of soccer in the nation if tangible results can be a reality.
We need to invest in sport and seriously start making preparations for WC 2010 or else it will just be SEMBE this or SEMBE that.
    FAZ,please save us the misery.
    GO ZAMBIA GO.

  34. Chivuta must be included in this team in place of Sinkala.I don’t know what it has to take for Phiri to realize Sinkala won’t be ready and strong enough to play at the tournament. Why gumble? The smart decision to make is pick a guy that is fit playing 90 min football and performing well for his club.Give chivuta another chance, that Cosafa cup game was not enough to truly judge his quality. He has done more for his club that warrants him a place in the national team. Call him while the sun shines

  35. I know Sinkala is good in midfield but I think he will not be as good as he is as he will not be fully fit during the afcon tournament. I agree with BuzzEd, we need Chivuta to replace Sinkala for his own healthy. I have watched Chivuta and followed his progress, the guy is equally good and strong enough. I wish my voice can be heard. Its not too late to ring some changes to the squad. We need to have fit players for this tournament. We do not want players collapsing on the field of play.

  36. I agree with Buzz Ed and Billy let the coaches include Chivuta in the Team.It looks like Sinkala won’t make the team and even if he did the guy hasn’t trained for almost a month since his been down.

  37. i dont support the notion of including injured players in your team roster wih the hope that they miraculously recovery. We have match-ready, battle-hungry boys itching for a shot on the team, and this risk AMA COACHES has taken will come back to haunt him.it would have been great if Sinkala and Sichone we fit, but this is desperate sellection in my opinion. BY THE WAY,HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE. This wonderful site keeps me connected with all of you and the country we all love. CHEERS BANE!

  38. Happy new year to you all my fellow bloggers and soccer fans, and of course Lusaka times. I wish you all a prosperous 2008.

  39. Ba#42 Whisper wesu let me whisper something to you. We cant all be soccer administrators, iyo. Imagine the chaos if we all converged at Football House to do that or if we all became politicians inorder to champion positive policies for soccer pa zed. We all have our different roles to play in nation-building. I play my role in that respect kunchito and through a national charity association I belong to. There are people in this country who’ve blown trumpets that they can bring soccer glory

  40. to Zed. They are the ones to toil, besides they reap huge benefits from it. Ndabafilwa, bafumepo pengile bambi. People like Kret Galu with all the influence and connections in govt can bring about change, but the guy is interested only in himself. Govt also decides to invest so much in the guy instead of the sport. And when we speak out ati tuli ma armchair critics. Armchair criticism is one method of positive contribution. Praise-singing is destructive coz the wrongdoers dont realise ati

  41. baitaya. All I am saying, in case you missed my point, is that we need to invest in soccer if we’re to reap any benefits. At this rate takuli ekotuleya, tupingemo ndamulefwaya. Mu 1994 we went that far coz huge investment both direct and indirect was made.
When I was in lsk I used to go to local matches, and when I get back I will resume that routine. We are all Zambians and want glory for our nation. Muleke bu praise-singer pantu ebwaonaula nechalo.

  42. Mourinho, through armchair criticism(because thats what coaches do), took Chelsea to higher heights. The late Prof. Chanda, through armchair criticism, brought about the reversal of Bulaya’s nolle. If u want some more of such facts tell me and al do a 2-page list for you. Now tell one positive thing praise-singers have brought about?
    Happy Nu Yr, Whisper!
