Multichoice Zambia to beam AFCON matches

Share

Multichoice Zambia Limited is to broadcast all the Ghana MTN Africa Cup of Nations games live on Digital Satelite Television (DSTV).

Multichoice Zambia, Public Relations Officer, Malone Kanande said DSTV subscribers will not miss out on the action adding that they will be able to view all the games on Super Sport three (3) and five (5).

Mr. Kanande disclosed this in an interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Lusaka today.

He noted that despite Multichoice Zambia broadcasting only 20% of the English Premiership Games (EPA), this will not be the case with the Africa Cup of Nations.

“We will show 100% of the Ghana MTN Africa Cup of Nations. We will have 30 Minutes and 15 minutes Rap-Ups by professional sports analysits like Kalusha Bwalaya,” Mr Kanande said.

Mr Kanande lamanted that it was unfortunate that Multichoice partner, the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) is unable to broadcast the matches due financial difficulties.

ZNBC yesterday announced that it is unable to broadcast the Ghana Africa Cup of Nations due to failure by the corporation to raise K 5.7 Billion to pay the vendor to broadcast the games.

The corporation managed to raise only a paltry 788 million.

  1. I think the 3 pin we pay znbc is not enough, why not make it at least15 pin so that we can be watching more of lpm where ever he goes and have him on all of the 19 hrs news.
The money znbc spends on following lpm where ever he goes would have paid for this, if only there was some one to stop the rot. god help us we see lpm everyday and we can not see our boys who only do this once every four years. shame on us.

  2. The challenge is to help ZNBC and the Govt to manage finaces well and set their priorities right. Let us not call each other names

“WE SHOULD BECOME PART OF THE SOLUTION AND NOT PART OF THE PROBLEM”

  3. awe not insele guys. but imwe how many pipo can afford DSTV? What about thoses in the rural areas? do not forget about them. They need to watch the games. do not think along the line of rail think out side tha box. Awe this is not good news at all.

  4. Increased subscriptions will only translate into increased programming of the activities of Levy, Maureen and MMD. I pity you poor Zambians! I am in Europe so I am not affected. I have two choices of watching ACOF on either BBC Three or Eurosport!

  5. this is where the afcon is going to make it’s money from now, tv rights, it’s the same in football all around the world now. football is for people, it should be for people who can at least just afford to have a tv. it should be free, let them sell it overpriced to european countries, keep it affordable for africans. why can’t africa set an example and not exploit people?

  6. There should be a law against tv companies charging so much. who actually benefits, i doubt it’s the ghanaians or any nations. it’s these private companies, if caf had the sense, they would not let the people be blackmailed like this. it’s disgusting.

  7. JB (No. 2). The problem is not the K3000, its ZNBC. They are too greedy. Lets do a little analysis. if 1000,000 paid the 3000, the amount ZNBC would be getting is K3bn. Everybody who pays electricity bills pays the K3000. Hotels and lodges pay per TV set. So ZNBC must be honest and tell us where they are taking our money. They say “if you pay it will show”.We have been paying and they are saying it won’t show?

in addition to the 3bn+ they are getting from us, they receive govt grants. contd..

  8. Contd.

But are lagging far behind “Muvi TV” which totally free of charge! Eh?

And the money they are saying they have raised so far, how much of it is from ZNBC? They want people to donate so they can air this thing without incurring any cost. Then why are paying them!? If the K3000 is so little that they can’t even contribute 1bn or even 100,000,000 then there is no need to pay. There programs are just as horrible (if not even worse) as when it was completely free of charge? irk!!!

  9. Infact, they also make a lot of money from adverts. And they knew in good time there will AFCON 2008. They should have prepared for it especially knowing how much they paid last time.

All they want is goverment and other organisations to foot the bill while the money we pay them remains untouched. I think that istitution is being run by wrong people. Coz even to televise a few games (eg FA Cup qualifiers), sometimes you will hear them appealing for sponsors. They can’t afford that too?Irk!

  10. abash Mwanawasa and maureen.
why shud we pay for these minions. are they the only faces in zambia to be watched pabunkolanya? no wonder znbc yabolela. ukulatamba fye lyonse ehhhhhhhhhhh, eeeeeeehhhhhhhhh. yaba naka chiluba kawamapo nangu nakena nimpupu

  11. Comment 13 I agree with you lack of foresight, Salasini is from Zambia Airways, defunct what strategies do you think he can bring that can keep ZNBC afloat. “Let us be part of the solution, not a problem” HOW?

  12. Its a pity to hear whats actually happening back home,ZNBC seems to be lagging behind in all departments, bantala misoka balatonawila icalo mwe bantu nga twabalekelela.someone has to take responsibility for once.

  13. Viewing by DSTV mean majority of zambians will miss the games…Now we know why ZNBC did not want to show the games,,,so that business will boom for this SA company!! Wake up Zambians..fire the director of ZNBC..He has failured to delivery!!

  14. I agree, someone at ZNBC is not doing their job…..The timing of the AFCON is known well in advance; so why didn’t the guys at ZNBC budget for it… they now pretty well that the majority of the Zambians who are paying TV licence want to watch the AFCON……is so sad : It gets Worse when you pay…..

  15. Every 5yrs tulami votela bati infintu fyena tafichinja…Ati new deal you can’t even show people who put you in office the much loved sport “BOLA!”

  16. Why are you chaps even complaining. Zambia is going to lose anyway. Why should ZNBC waste money on losers. At least Maureen is a winner and will be the next President

  17. Iwe Mukwike ulichipuba, nishinga Maureen akupele pakuti wambe ukumuchitila campaign? We are coming back in power, come 2011 not fi Mwanawasa ifisushi!

  18. ZAMBIANS,WE SHOULD HAVE APPEALLED TO MR CLEMENT .K.SIMATONGO FOR FUNDS TO BROADCAST THE AFCON AT LEAST HE IS A BILLIONAIRE WHO HAS PAD FOR SWAZILAND AND LESOTHO TO WATCH MATCHES AND MORE HE IS A ZAMBIAN THAN WASTE TIME WITH ZNBC TOOTHLESS FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE.

  19. ZNBC TALK SO MUCH SHIT. WHERE IS THE MONEY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN PAYING YOU THIEFS. NOW U SAYING U CANT AFFORD THIS N THAT

  21. from the word go znbc knew very well that zambia is in afcon competion ,and if they where serious about showing the games they would have started preparing for this ,just stop paying 3 pin
