Buffaloes, Warriors reach Charity Shield final

Share

Green Buffaloes and Kabwe Warriors will have more than Emmanuel Mayuka to fight over after they both reached the final of this year’s Samuel Zoom Ndhlovu Charity Shield.

Warriors ousted defending champions Zesco United 4-2 on post-match penalties after a scoreless draw at the end of 120 minutes of extra time in their semifinal played at Nchanga Stadium in Chingola.

The win marked a good start for Warriors new Egyptian-born coach Mohamed Fathy who was appointed to the post in January.

Buffaloes too were stretched into extra time but beat Arrows within the stipulated time thanks to a goal from Morgan Hanjema in the 100th minute in their semifinal match played at .

The overall quality of the Buffaloes-Arrows clash was poor throughout and Buffaloes must have been wishing May transfer subject Mayuka was available to add some cutting edge and life to a dull frontline.

It left everyone wondering how Buffaloes managed to ship five goals past Chipukizi of Zanzibar in their Caf Confederations Cup preliminary round first leg match last Saturday in a 5-0 away win.

Going by today’s result, Buffaloes have a lot of work to do with a potential second round meeting against Highlanders of Zimbabwe looming over the horizon.

Meanwhile, Warriors and Buffaloes will face off in the Charity Shield final on March 9 at Nkoloma Stadium.

The match will draw great interest following the two clubs recent acrimonious fight over the loaning of striker Emmanuel Mayuka to Buffaloes.

  1. Faz presidency marred by racial abuse
    By Kennedy Gondwe
    BBC Sport, Lusaka
The campaign for the Football Association of Zambia (Faz) presidency is being marred by racial slurs on one of the candidates.
Zambian legend Kalusha Bwalya, lawyer Anthony Kasolo and Hanif Adams, a businessman of Indian origin, are contesting the 29 March poll.
But there has been opposition to Adams’ candidature in the local media on the basis of his race.
Individuals have argued that despite Adams being Zambian (he was born in eastern Zambia), Faz should not be run by foreigners.
One of them says: “For the sake of national pride and patriotism, Faz should be run by indigenous black Zambians and not Indi

  2. One of them says: “For the sake of national pride and patriotism, Faz should be run by indigenous black Zambians and not Indians or Pakistanis.”
Adams, who owns top flight club Lusaka Dynamos, admits he is disappointed with the remarks.
“I am very disappointed for people bringing race issues into matters of football or any matter concerning the development of any country,” he told BBC Sport.

  3. “I have never thought I was regarded as an Indian, I always believe I am a Zambian because I was born and bred here.
“I have never been to India since I was born 54 years ago.”
“It hurts me when people say that,” he added.
“For the last 29 years, I have developed indigenous Zambian players who are thriving because of my efforts.”
Despite the attacks, Adams says he will not back down on his Faz ambition.
One of Adams’ opponents, Anthony Kasolo, has condemned the racist remarks.
“Legally speaking, being indigenous is neither here nor there because we all came from different places,” Kasolo said.
“It’s being petty and it’s unfortunate that a campaign should go that dirty.”

  4. Thanks for the news Observer. Small minded people again. The guy is even more Zambian than i thought, he’s lived in Zed his whole life and never even been to India. Every country in the world has to open their mind to their own changing national identity in this day and age. Embrace it Zambia, and don’t worry, because no one will ever take care of Zambia but Zambians themselves.

  5. Kaunda was from Malawi, Chiluba was from DRC, Hanif is Indian. That is why Zambia and Africa is so behind. The US take the best. Look at Obama. I think Obama does not qualify to Prez in Kenya!!!! Africa what a shame. Zambia what a shame!

  6. All these remarks are emanating from Kalusha’s campaign team.
Whilst we appreciate his previous soccer exploits for this country, the guy has not yet matured to become an administrator.
He failed himself in Canada when he wanted to takeover Lwandamina’s role. He did the same thing at Canon Yaounde when GBFC travelled for their continental fixture.
This man is up to satisfying his self ambitions and has no heart for Zambian soccer.
He is the causer of problems at FAZ today
Viva Hanif since Kasolo will pull out at the last minute to support Kalusha. We know what he’s capable of doing and his inadquacies in football administration.

  7. It’s not a shame for Zambia, we had KK. He is the most responsible for putting us where we are now, not behind not ahead. It’s up to the present, it’s our chance to make the most of this country. The past is there to learn from.

  8. Stylish, I am at least encouraged by Kalusha’s enthusiasm, he does have heart for Zambian soccer. I don’t think he would be using his best abilities in FAZ though. He is a hero and all generations will look up to him, if he could find a way to use his influence to help football and leave the embroilments to FAZ for now, i think everyone would win.

  9. That ninja turtle called Kalu hasn’t a single grain of genuine interest to develop Zed soccer. This Adam guy has spent more years of his life in Zed than the globe trotting Kalu. Talk about paying back to the community, Kalu’s record is even beaten by small boys like Bensuma. His marriage couldn’t work because of globe trotting and now he wants to manage FAZ whilst living in Jo’burg. C’mon, kalu give us a break dude!

  10. The Mwenyes in Eastern province have produced a lot of coloureds because of their high appetite for Zambian girls yet they keep their own mwenye girls locked up . What kind of zambian is that?

  11. Anonymous, what has that got to do with running FAZ? How come Lusaka Dynamos was not disbanded because Hanif is Indian Zambian? Why only now? Please let the best man win, if I had my way I would have Kalu, Hanif, Simata in FAZ, they all have good proven records.

  12. guys lets not talk about racism.we have a alot of problems to sort out. KALU FOR FAZ PREZ. shame on all u guys who hate kalu. u zambians forget fast, just like wat uncle levy told u. i want someone to answer me, WHY IS THAT FIFA, CAF AND 2010 WRLD CUP SEE KALU’S NEED AND ZAMBIANS DON’T. THE BOTTOM LINE IS JEALOUSY

  13. Ba Lula,I for one I am not against Kalu. Kalu has a great track record, well spoken, clever, good looking, international connections he sits on FIFA, CAF, one of the greatest 10 African footballers of the last 10 years, African footballer 88 and on and on. I think Kalu, Hanif and Simataa should be in FAZ. We need progressive men. I don’t mind who wins between these three. Ponga Liwewe must also come in, the boy has connections to help Zambian soccer. The rest are just in FAZ for the money and creating confusion about allowances like what happened in Ghana on the eve of the game with Cameroun
