  1. 16% HIV infection rate is very, very high. Please, let us concentrated on eliminating the root cause of the TB dis-ease and AIDSyndrome instead of only fighting them, TB and AIDS, in the late stage.

I read somewhere that UGANDA reduced the HIV infection rate from roughly 20% to 4%. We as Zambians can do it too only that we need to do it to even ~ 0%.

  2. Do you know your status? That is the begining of dealing with this epedemic. In Uganda they went for testing and were not ashamed of their status and dealt with it. This is here to start the only way to contain it is get tested and look after your self and hopefully do not go spreading it once you know you are positive. And ofcourse condomise!!!!

  3. We must always treat statistics with a degree of skepticism. I would like to believe that 16% applies to those zambians who have actually been tested for hiv and not the whole zambian population. So the infection rate may be lower or higher than 16%It would be of help #1 if you could quote for us where you obtained the data about infection rate in uganda and also I doubt if at all it is possible in zambia let alone anywhere in the world to reduce infection rate to zero percent-the reasons are obvious.

  4. #3. A quick search revealed the following:
Uganda’s policies are credited with helping to bring adult HIV prevalence (the proportion of adults living with HIV) down from around 15% in the early 1990s to around 5% in 2001. At the end of 2005, UNAIDS estimates that 6.7% of adults were living with the virus. The country is seen as having implemented a well-timed and successful public education campaign.1

In the end, I wondered whether the office staticsfrom the Ugandan Govt. are realistic. enjoy

  5. it statts with our leaders at governmnt level, village level and at home. this thing is so rife and so hidden.i hear that most zambians have AHI.read in manasseh phiri reflection of aids so as long as one looks healthy and doesnt find out their status transmission is high then for those infected and have multiple parners you keep on reinfecting yourself and other factors like poverty, poor maternal health, poor nutrition will come into play so we need to adopt a multi faceted strategy to fight hiv.prevention is the crue and stop discrimination and accept and embrace those already infected you could not know you could be rocking i the same boat. lets fight 2gether

  6. #3, yes those Uganda stats are true and they have a workable AIDS infection-reduction formula the rest of Africa should emulate NOW before our future is swept off off our feet. Our country AIDS fight lacks political will but has all the rhetoric. When I did my test a new level of approach dawned on me and I realised how much more I could do to help me and my country. Knowledge is power and in getting it lets get understanding.

  7. We all understand the correlation between HIV and TB. BCG vaccine + weak immune system (HIV)= TB. what simply happens is that the already existing TB virus that supposed to protect us becomes the enemy when the immune system is weakened by HIV. As for Uganda it is now in the re-birth stage? Many people died, hence the figures recorded are actually new infections. Zambia is currently experiencing the dying stage? once this phase is over we shall have a decrease in numbers? it is sad that our politicians have not played a major role..! much of the work is done by NGOs…viva NGOs.

  8. HIV prevalence rates of 16% are just an estimation. Its true that stats can sometimes mislead. The sampling used to come up with the Zambian figure is not whole encampassing. Mainly the figure comes from antenal tests when pregant women visit the clinic. The name and normally the blood sample is not even labled but the number of samples is recorded as a base line to tabulate the actual prevalence rate. The best i presume is to sample for HIV infection at the time a national census is done so that a bigger figure is obtained that can almost reflect the real picture, not just sentinel surveys.
Anyways, the best medicine to defeat HIV is faithfulness and self control. If you cant contain sexua

  9. sexual urges, marry someone whom u know better and not a stranger. Go for VCT and know your status first. Condoms are in themselves not a perfect solution coz they were not meant to sieve viruses but filter off big macromolecules such as sperm, bacteria, fungi etc.
Lets have renewal of the mind by concentratiing on christian moral values and control our sexual feelings. The wicked people will tell u its very very difficult to contain the sexual desires or passions. Let me ask u a querry, did u at some poit of your life harbor such feelings? I bet the answer is NO. since you didnt have such feelings, u can control your whole body. its just a matter of self control and not jumping around

  10. mind you , NO CURE YET. even sondashi doesnt have the magic cure. some of these diseases, just go off the human record by people controling or avoiding the major route of infection. The same goes with infections like bacterial, e.g cholera. Just eat clean and drink clean water. hygeine is the key to defeating cholera and so sex with one person and probably your life partner is the major key. Problem mwe bena zambia mwalitemwa ukunwa ifi miti fya Nyele so that at the end of the day u just want sex at all costs. Go to the animals and learn somethig. Animals only mate at the rite time, during the heat period of the female. we can do it, only when u get married and eat the same fruit again and

  11. again. Not ubufi bamibepa ati u need different tastes or varieties. No brothers and sisters. The penis or vagina has the same make up and size may differ but it remains the same.

  12. #2, 12. I know my HIV status. I also know my blood group and type i.e. Rhesus factor.

I also did a full blood count before at the UTH in 2003. I think I need to do it again now!

  13. #13 2003????incase it sliped off your mind how long it is, 5 years ago.you need to check again. Anyway we dont know whether you were neg. or post.at the time.

  14. #14.#13 2003????incase it sliped off your mind how long it is, 5 years ago.you need to check again. Anyway we dont know whether you were neg. or post.at the time.

I wrote, I also did a full blood count before at the UTH in 2003.”

When I wrote about, “I think I need to do it again now”, I was referring to the full blood count. I hope this clears your interest. The “HIV test” is another case different for ‘full blood count”.

  15. #15. I wrote, I also did a full blood count before at the UTH in 2003.” is supposed to read as “I wrote, “I also did a full blood count before at the UTH in 2003.” ”

I also have to make mention that I agree with #8 thru #11. I think all Zambia have to be tested for HIV when census is being conducted so that we get a more realistic figure. Then and only then can we start implementing solutions that will help us fight this problem.

I seriously think that the hospitals have to be allowed to test for HIV anyone who goes for treatment of any illness. Allowing people to choose whether to be tested is what is increasing stigma on HIV/AIDS patients.

  16. Yes #s 1 and 4, Uganda has achieved those results because the political will was positive about it. In Uganda, political leaders went for VCT and declared their result publicly. Am yet to hear a Zambian political leader declare a positive HIV result to encourage people to go for VCT. Yet we all know most of them are HIV positive and are on treatment. I know going public about ones status is optional but I want to see our leaders do that to help in the this fight.

  17. I concur with # 9. Widows, I am one too, know your status and abstain, read 1 Cor ch7 v40. You will help in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
    Stay healthy and blessed.
