Zesco Leave for Sudan Minus Kalaba

Zesco United this morning left for Sudan ahead of this Saturdays Caf Africa Champions League first round first leg match against Al Hilal.

The defending league champions left minus influential midfielder Rainford Kalaba who has yet to recover from a leg injury sustained in the preliminary stage away to URA of Uganda.

Kalaba place has been taken up by winger Yonah Mwango who has been missing from Zesco’s last four competitive matches this year due to poor form.

Meanwhile, striker Elson Mkandawire has recovered from his injury and traveled with the team just 24 hours after they drew 1-1 at home in their league opener against Roan United.

With the exception of Kalaba, Zesco coach Wedson Nyirenda has kept faith in the entire team from the preliminary stage of matches.

Saturdays match will be played in Khartoum with kickoff scheduled for 20:00 Sudan time.

Al Hilal were on bye from the first round after reaching the semifinals of last years Caf Africa Champions League.

Zesco are expected to arrive in Khartoum tomorrow after a night-stop in Nairobi, Kenya.

  1. Good luck if they come out with a 1 goal deficit then they stand a chance.Otherwise Al Hlial are very,very strong at home.It will be ‘Hot’ out there both on the pitch and in the stands.I watched these guys beat Al Ahly from Egypt last year the are a good side.

  2. yes indeed they are very tough at home they won all their home games last year( Ahil…Trage…Asec..Zamalik…Nagm Sahli) all these are best in Africa…
    Alhilal always score 2 goals or more
    their fans is another story …………..
    I heard from a Sudanses man , Alhilal did not lose in their stadium for 100 matches…. that scarsd me alot
