Share

Chawama Member of Parliament (MP) Reverend Sampa Bredt, has welcomed the move by government to construct three footbridges on Kafue road saying the development will help to reduce on unnecessary lose of lives.

And Reverend Sampa has said over K40 million of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has been allocated for the construction of a police post in Missisi Compound.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, Reverend Sampa said the construction of foot bridges along Kafue road will reduce on the number of people who are frequently killed by vehicles.

She said the construction of the bridges will save the lives of people that the road would have claimed due to road traffic accidents and called on the people to support the project.

She however urged engineers and the Ministry of Works and Supply to do thorough research and planning before constructing the said bridges for them to be user friendly.

Rev. Sampa said although people in her constituency welcomes the construction of the bridges, there is need for the constructors to ensure that the bridge accommodates even the people on wheelchairs, bicycle and wheelbarrows.

She said the footbridges which will be shared between Kanyama and her Constituency will also encourage interaction between the people in the two constituencies.

Meanwhile Rev. Sampa has said over K40 Million has been allocated for the construction of a police post in Missis Compound to tighten security.

She said it was sad that many lives have continued to be lost due to lack of security in the area and has instructed the area councilor to reconstruct a police post.

Rev. Sampa added that she will also build two other police posts in the constituency this year.

The MP said security in Missis and the Constituency as a whole has been the concern of many people in her constituency.

She has however appealed to the Police to do foot patrols in the area to address the problem of criminals.

Missis Compound has had no Police station since 2005 when residents ran amok and demolished the only police station in the area.

  1. Good move there and we would love to be regularly updated with the developments there, we would greatly appreciate to see a not less than 50% Zambian owned company getting a construction contract for one of those above mentioned project and lastly, the constructions should not take more than 4 years to complet or else…

  2. Allow me to change the subject and draw your attention to what CHUCHU’s nephew has done.Am talking about this BASTARD called SHAKAFUSWA.The BAGGER yesterday insulted MPs for no apparent reason,am told this ***** has no respect for other MPs simply bcoz he is CHUCHU ‘s NEPHEW.SHAKAFUSWA,let me tell you,Zambia does not belong MWANAWASA’s ancestors do you understand you bagger.Soon we shall throw your uncle out of STATE HOUSE and further cut THE FOOLISH TREE which is making you behave like CASTROL CHILUBA.It seems there no wise elder where you come from thats why you behave like that. However, wait, come 2011 we shall CARPET YOUR ASS and reduce you to essentials like CASTROL.

  3. We donot need foot bridges what we want are Interchanges to sort out the issue of traffic congestion in the city. Say provide interchanges at Kafue and Kabwe roundabouts.

  4. It is only in Zambia where building of the humble footbridge becomes national news. If Lusaka City and other councils were properly run, they would undertake all the necessary work required to reduce congestion and improve pedestrian safety.

#2 One of Mwanawasa’s weaknesses is nepotism, and our weakness as Zambians is lack of respect for one another. Instead, we fear and respect foreigners.

  5. Number 5 …you are right on the money. slowly we being reduced to campasinos. it is a pity that most zambian do not have the time to look at what is happening in nations. these so called investors will reduce us to nothing. they are interested in developing our nations? their true motivation is greed and nothing else. I have even created my own bumper sticker, “nation for sale,if interested contact MMD.”

  6. It is a pity that building of foot bridges have draw the attention of the nation in Zambia. I am sure that there will be a ceremonial opening of these bridges in 2011 by LPM. These are projects that should have been planned and executed by the council under the decentralised system. Unfortunately, the planning of motorised boat service in Western Province, where a pastor and teacher died in a dugout canoe, will have to wait for a centralised decision. The road network in Eastern Province is a sore sight and the rains this season have worsened the situation. Again the central government will have to make a decision possibly in 2011. Shame on Zambia.

  7. Ba Dickson, you’re very right. I’ve never seen any other town, or city benefit from Zambia’s developmental funds than Lusaka. Filelwila nokulwila! Everyone wants their names associated to having done something in LUSAKA. What of Shan’gombo, Mufulira, Mpika?

Someone had better realise a Fly-over bridge for vehicles would do us pride. Not foot bridges!!! Bwafya …

We’ve seen an increase of vehicles and Footpaths in our country Lusaka (after all Lusaka is Zambia and Zambia is Lusaka!!!) No wonder all the MPs go and settle ku Lusaka!

What would happen if say for once the Capital of Zambia was to be relocated to yet another city in Zambia, as part of the developmental initiative?
