Missing Body at Maamba Hospital Mortuary found

Share

The body of the Sinazongwe Council employee that went missing at the Maamba Hospital Mortuary in Southern province has been found.

Maamba Hospital Superintendent Dr Angel Mwiche confirmed the development to ZANIS that another family within the same area wrongly buried it.

Dr Mwiche said that when the family was called to identify the other remaining body in the mortuary it was proved that they mistakenly buried a wrong one.

The family that buried a wrong body agreed to exhume it and hand it back to the owners.
One Sinazongwe Council employee who refused to be quoted said the family that buried the wrong body was charged a K500, 000 for disturbing the other family.
On Friday Maamba Hospital acting Dr Elisha Chipandwe said the hospital was trying to establish the facts over the matter.

Dr. Chipandwe said two bodies were brought to the Hospital mortuary on Tuesday and they suspect that one family that buried their deceased earlier could have picked a wrong body.
Sinazongwe Council Director of Works Mathews Mashapi identified the deceased as Mailos Siakambila who was a council employee based at Sinazeze barrier.

Mr. Mashapi said the deceased died on Tuesday at home after accidentally inhaling the chemicals he was using to spray his cotton field.

He said the people at his home decided to give him milk and he died in his sleep.

  1. You, these are poor villagers and 500pin is a lot of money. It is sad they burried a wrong body, and this is not the first time this has happened in zambian context. The process to deal with the dead should improve. A good process in identification and dispatch by mortuary attendants would help bereaved family in burying the correct body.

  2. Ka HK #2 those people are not just poor villagers. Nibambuya bobe. You forget that your mbuya lives in the village. Kuponona iwe

  3. I feel sorry for the one who died due to the acute toxicity of the pesticide he was using to control cotton pests. I believe there are many such cases which go unreported in the media. It is high time we sensitize the farmers on the dangers of using pesticides. There are also chronic effects which may manifest only after a long period of exposure to such pesticides. The farmers should use personal protective equipment to protect themselves against such dangerous pesticides. May his soul rest in peace.

  4. I am sure it was the fear of the unknown which led mourners to Identify a wrong body.I am sure once in the mortuary they were gripped with so much fear that they could not take time to identify the body properly. The mortuary attendants must also have a poor record keeping system. It is sad but it was agenuine mistake.

  5. It’s strange that even during body viewing nobody noticed. Could someone educate me on this one, do people in vilages conduct body viewing as part of the burrial process?

  6. Body viewing or not, haven’t you ever attended a funeral where after the body viewing, people remark how different the person looks. Have those comments ever stopped the burial, not to my knowledge. Relatives are sometimes grieving so much that they can’t notice the fact that the body they are viewing could possibly be another person. This is life, stranger than fiction, eh.

  7. the best question yu folks can ask yoselves z. did they do the washing of the body or they jst picked and went straight for burial. coz f they wash they can easily recognze their relative, dnt jst be talking thingz that yu dont kno. a dead person is not scaring, i advice yu to go into the medical world yu cowards.

  8. Its wrong to fine those who buried a wrong body, but the moutuary attendants should pay for wrong record keeping. If their records were perfect they could have directed the morners to the right fridge. So take all Attendants to TQMC (Total Quality Management Course)so that they should learn to keep proper information and director the morners.

  9. Fine the mortuary attendants not the morners, for not showing them were they had put their dead. I thought it was the duty for the mortuary attendants to identify the fidge no. according to their day to day record’ Take the mortuary attendants to Total Quality Management Course for the record keeping leasons, becouse it seems their records are not properly done. So who ever was on duty that day should pay the owners of the body which was wrongly buried for the incovenience coursed.

  10. i advice people to start memorising how each other looks like to avoid burying wrong bodies when they are dead

  11. things happen and it is happening all around the world . i see no justices in charging the family that buried a wrong body. 500 pin is too much. infact the famliy was suppose to bury the other body since their person was bureid by the other family. and the most important thing you have to is put something that you can easily remember what belongs to you eg string bearing the name the full names ….died.
    cheers
