High water bill due to misuse of water – LWSC

Share

Luakanga Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC), Managing Director Joseph Munalula has attributed the huge bills incurred by consumers to the misuse of the commodity and not the newly introduced metering system.

He said the metering system was an efficient way of ensuring that consumers paid for the service utilized.

Mr. Munalula said this in an interview with ZANIS in Kabwe that the utility company is a credible institution that has the interest of its customers at heart.

“The metres were introduced due to the demand of the consumers who wanted to pay for what they used in a particular month as opposed to fixed charges,” Mr Munalula added.

He said that the water utility company’s water charges are amongst the lowest in the country.

The Company mangers remarks comes in the wake of comments from an opposition Patriotic Front Ngungu ward councilor who expressed disappointment with the company’s abnormal fluctuating water bills.

  1. I can agree with Mr Munalula. The way we use water (amonst many other facilities) in Zambia, its like people don’t pay bills. Eg, a householder can comfortably chatt with the neighbour(s) while he/she has left the tap running in the kitchen. And the talking normally take a minimum 30 minutes. Similar thing applies to garden taps. Most of them lick but owners dont bother having them repaired. Zambians, lets be serious with life and stop taking facilities/life for granted. We can save a lot of money through correct usage of facilities or services. The tendency also stretches to power. Most cookers have all the coils/hotplates turning on when you mean to use 1 only. Imagine the bill.

  2. I agree 100 per cent.We missuse resources alot in zambia.Just look at how much we have spent on levy`s stroke and kafupis `reviews.Next we are likely to worst on cobra`s ciggarates if not rebuilding state house when he burns it.

  3. So they increase tarrifs just because someone is using too much water. How about those people who do not missuse water at all, do they have to suffer the same punishment. Com’n Munalula use your head and punish those who deserve the punishment not everyone.

  4. I totally agree with #3. There is no need for an individual’s misuse/wastage of water to affect other residents/citizens. This is because the one who consumes more should enccur a higher bill.

Are you going to punish all the men in Zambia just because ‘Shakas’ is a rapist or a slaughterer of women (as he calls himself). No.

  5. We are just wasteful in Zambia. Copper is finishing up north and ZESCO cant utilize the water prudently…it’s a running joke! Education is dangerous sometimes, mwe.

  6. Nothing to do with education but just lack of common sense and ideas. We are just too ignorant with so many things.

  7. Water should be used just the way we use it, it’s not right to commercialise water utility companies, because water is an essential basic human need
