A girl has committed suicide in Sinazongwe district in Southern Province.
The mother to the girl Learner Siapala told ZANIS at the funeral house that her daughter drunk some poison to kill herself.
Mrs Siapala identified her daughter as Chipo Siapala who is 18 years old and she was in grade 12 at Maamba high School.
She said her daughter committed suicide on Friday and the doctor at Maamba Hospital pronounced her dead at 22:00 hrs.
Ms. Siapala who resides in Maamba Township explained that on the fateful day her daughter came home around 20:00 hrs and his father rebuked her for coming late.
She said from that incident she answered rudely and decided to go to sleep.
Ms. Siapala said her daughter began to behave abnormally and complained of severe stomach pains at 21:00 hours.
“I am surprised that a young girl can decide to kill herself without a proper cause, she had everything and this year she was supposed to complete grade 12 now she is no more,” Mrs Siapala said.
But the friends to the girl said her parents cut her hair to prevent her from moving at night and it induced her to commit suicide.
In February a 57 year old man also committed suicide in Sinazongwe district.
Edward Nkashi the brother to the deceased identified him as Henry Mulernga who hanged himself to a tree at the fisheries compound.
In another development, A 30 year old man has been killed by a Crocodile in Sinazongwe.
The Cousin to the deceased Enos Hachalwa said in an interview that Chrispin Chibotakusama was killed while he was fishing at night on Lake Kariba on Saturday.
Mr. Hachalwa said Chibotakusama of Simupande village in Chief Sinazongwe’s area was caught by the reptile while he was trying to remove the fish from the net.
He said the crocodile swallowed his hands and threw him in the Lake.
Mr. Hachalwa explained that the friend who was with the deceased failed to wrestle with the crocodile despite throwing stones at it.
He noted that the incident occurred around 22 hours on Saturday and the body was retrieved the following morning on Sunday.
The cousin to the deceased disclosed that the body had deep cuts in the hands and in the chest.
He said the other incident of a person being caught by a crocodile in Simupande village occurred in 1998.
However, cases of people being killed by crocodiles in Sinazongwe district have increased.
Last month a family of three people including a pregnant woman was killed by the crocodile in Chiyabi area.
Sinazongwe district Vice Council Chairperson Fisher Zimana said a crocodile broke the arm Ms Mukili Kalandi and was admitted in Mammba Hospital where she died together wit her baby from the reptile’s wounds.

Young ones please commiting suicide is not the solution, but to take all your problems to the Lord. You were created in the image of God. Do you really understand how special you are. There is no sin too big for God to forgive. Think of Solomon and many others in the Bible who had committed sins which according to own understanding would think were too big for God to forgive, but ended up being important figures in the Bible. Please take all your burdens to the Lord. If there is anyone in Chipo’s situation now pray to God for guidance.
Its high time Parents learn on how to communicate to teen agers! Its a very difficult age to control coz they need some space and they think they can do anything they want without been pressured by anyone! In developed countries we see naught teen been take to camps such as brat camps or rehab,just to shape their lives! Parents should be exposed to morden societs and try to feet their past in it and be able to talk openly to their children!Customs also plays an important roll in todays children,they need guides and detailed explanation of certain myths and beliefs.They learn knew things everyday and practice,so it us parent to blame if our children end up doing bad thngs.Listen en Talk2 them

My sister committed suicide in 2006 and left a six year old child. She had tried it before years back and it was a failed attempt but this time she finally managed. So to you all who ever think of committing suicide….STOP! Once you harbour those thoughts in your mind they are bound to happen. You are what you think, the thoughts you harbour will be your rewards so watch out. Sometimes I get angry with my sister for what she did she could have talked to someone especially that she even had a child to care for. Imagine this young child knows the mother is no more and always wonders why she did what she did. Probably thinks she never loved him.
To curb this problem, I think government should make suicide punishable by death.

It is very sad that young people decide to take their own lives this way. The remaining young girls should understand that many a time parents impose some restrictions on their movements out of love. Surely girls are too young at 18 to think they know it all! Though sweet, they should know consequences could be fatal!

its unfair to put the blame on the parents,they were simply doing their God given duty of disciplining their child.
teenagers by nature have very volatile emotions.its in the heat of such emotions mixed with lack of selfworth and probably the need to “punish” the parents that most teenage suicides occur.
ironically…its usually the ones who have shelter,clothing,food and people who care for them that decide to just end it.
