Over 300 opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) in Mazabuka have resigned to join the ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) ahead of tomorrow’s party card renewal exercise.
MMD Mazabuka District Chairman, Trywell Himoonga disclosed this to ZANIS in Mazabuka today.
Mr. Himoonga said the resignation of some UPND members, who include some senior party officials, meant that the party has been dismantled in the district.
He said the MMD has been enjoying overwhelming support in the district due to the massive investment taking place in the district.
He attributed the massive investment and developments in the economy to President Mwanawasa’s good governance policies.
Mr. Himoonga said the party from UPND will officially tender their resignations tomorrow.
Is Himoonga telling the truth or he is marely politicking?
it’s high time we realise it’s only mwanawasa who can add spice to zambia with his quality leadership, we all make simple mistakes in life, which is the same thing to the president.
Sorry for these lost sheep. They are blind enough not to realise that MMD is a finished party. For curiosity’s sake, how can the resignation of 300 members make a party ‘dismantle’? What is the population of Mazubuka district?
cheap politics..? those are daniel munkombwe’s tactics….another bootlicker worshiping LPM.
#4 you are right man, this is typical of Munkombwe politics.
Very cheap indeed. it is a stage managed stuff. zambia needs development, not these MMD old tactics
tired old MMD tactics
Hey it is true that there is a lot of new developments going on in Mazabuka and many jobs have been created and alot of the locals have never done this well in the life of this town. The Zamsugar projects are doing wonders..so MMD could just be turning things round here and it’s not politics..would not be surprised if they carry this town come 2011
Hungry *****s!!
#8; Are u one of the MMD or Munkombwe’s bootlickers?
#8 I think you have ever seen development. what is there in mazabuka for you to call development. guys lets move and then you will see that zambia is just but a scrap
how is that guy know the number of people to resign when they have not yet resign. cheap old politics.
i mean never
Baba Munkombwe please try new tactics those are too cheap to convince the new generation.
You guys Search the Blomberg business site news, the whole world knows there is a big sugar expansion project going on in Mazabuka by Illovo, you can even check their sens information on Illovo website. I think some of you guys are just so skeptical while other people are cashing in on your country. You can even search this site. I guess you will die complaining and blaming people ..zambia is changing my friends, refresh your browsers. You are stuck on an old page and still busy mourning about ZCCM, wake up, it’s a new dawn and new opportunities.
#14 I was in Mazabuka and I know whats on the ground.Internet is not heaven. There were no resignations but drama. Its Munkombwe s style he does it each time he is upto to something .ANC-UNIP-MMD-UPND-MMD as a person from Southern province I know what am talking about. If you dont believe me elections are around the corner and I will be vindicated
Interesting reading. I am a Mazabukan, although I am far from home. While it could be true that a good number of people may have moved to the MMD, elections time will surely vindicate Choma1 as indicated in #15.
Atulindile akulangilila as Dennis Liwewe used to say while making soccer commentaries.
The April’08 issue of African Business Magazine says that zambia has been one of the fastest growing economies on the continent, with zambian sugar’s value up from US$212m in april last year to US$584m in april of this year’s survey and the local subsidiary of standard chatered bank rose from US$142m to US$459m over the same period.
# 17 I agree with you but it will take some time for people down on the streets to feel the effects.Maybe they might not even feel the difference. To build a future I guess let the government invest heavenly in education. The quality of education in Public schools leaves much to be desired.Mines are disturbing most of our Zambian leaders going back to Unip s mistake of over dependence on wasting assets
nice data #17. I have to make a plan for Mazabukans now.
Wena Choma1, what is to ‘invest heavenly in education’?[18] I guess you mean ‘invest HEAVILY …’. That’s what happens when you stress every syllable that starts with the letter ‘h’, the most misused letter in the tonga lingua.
Yes #19, please do so, Zambian Sugar is a public listed company on the Lusaka stock exchange and any Zambian can take part in the growths.
You know what, while appreciating liberties and having no interest in which ever party who goes to, I find it funny how these poeple switch parties….. A serious lack of principle! Could it be that, the parties themselves have no riden philosophy or believe upon which they have been founded? What is the MMD/UPND/UNIP philosophy? What is the defination? what do they believe in?
Define such things! Because this will giude you through your policies, bahaviors and direction! Then we can check your consistency!!! Then we can begin to talk about principles!!! Not this yapping and yoyoing we are seeing! Its a shamefull sheer lack of principle!!!
It’s not a new story everyday in Zambian politics. The chaps are just hungry and probably were displaced by rains and need some shelter for now!we know old Bull Munkombwe form the time we were young!
Mwanawasa may not be 100% the way you want him. People of Zambia, what do you want him to do????? The truth is, DEVELOPMENT does not come like rain for everyone Jim and Jack to see. DEVELOPMENT is gradual, it takes years to be seen. PLEASE, differentiate DEVELOPMENT from DESTRUCTION. It takes a SHORT time for a SHORT president to DESTROY what was put up by wise people. Mwanawasa has SET DEVELOPMENT in motion. YOU LIKE IT OR NOT, ITS 10 YEARS FOR HIM. Now just wait for SATAna or HH or Ngondo, or Miyanda to either continue to build or destroy what Mwanawasa has set in motion.
Complainants will always keep complaining WHILE US DOERS move forward perpetually. I am neither a politician nor an activist. I am a simple worker in a remote area of Zambia but seeing Zambia on the move. YOU KEEP COMPLAINING AND STAY STAGNANT, its the nature of DULL PEOPLPE who fail to cease opportunities but instead choose to complain. Jims and Jacks have been there from time immemorial but the world has not waited for them, IT KEEPS TURNING, WE WILL KEEP ON MOVING POSITIVELY regardless of whoever is rulling AS LONG AS THE NEXT PRESIDENT DOES NOT DESTROY WHAT LEVY HAS PUT IN PLACE.
LONG LIVE TO ALL COMPLANANTS SO THAT YOU MAY LEAVE TO SEE WHAT LEVY HAS SET IN MOTION.
LONG LIVE COMPLAINANTS SO THAT YOU MAY LIVE TO SEE WHAT LEVY HAS SET IN MOTION. THE SAME PEOPLE WHO KEEP COMPLAINING ARE THE ONES THAT PAY TAXES BUT NEVER THINK TWICE AS TO HOW THEY CAN BENEFIT FROM THE TAXES THEY PAY. WE HAVE A COOPERATIVE HERE IN MY REMOTE AREA, AND WE HAVE GOT FUNDS FROM GOVT AS A GROUP. WE HAVE SOLAR PANELS ENOUGH TO POWER 4 COMPUTERS CONNECTED TO THE NET, 8 CHICKEN RUNS WELL LIT, 1 PIG HOUSE (PIGGERY). THAT IS WHAT LEVY HAS SET IN MOTION FOR US AS A GROUP. COME AND JOIN TULIME TULYE COOPERATIVE GROUP (T.T.C.G) AND STOP COMPLAINING. MUMBWA IS A STONE THROW FROM LUSAKA. VIVA GOOD GOVT POLICIES!!!
I agree Levy has done and could have even done far much better but the problem is he is now tired and his failure to come up with a team people he would have liked to work with. Its a lesson to the young Zambians that leadership is team work.I wonder who his political friends are.In general the Man has the best interests of the country at heart.
wena 20. Mongu1 cant king?ni mwana a mulena.ni tomezi for correction .
