UPND to field Chimwala Phiri in Milanzi

Share

The United Party for National Development (UPND) will field Chimwala Phiri for the forthcoming Milanzi Constituency parliamentary by election.

Briefing the press in Lusaka today, UPND acting party president Richard Kapita said the party endorsed Mr. Phiri following exhaustive consultations with local party members.

Mr. Kapita expressed confidence that UPND would scoop the Milanzi seat because its candidate is the best representative of the people of Milanzi and is popular in the area.

And Mr. Phiri said he is very happy to be associated with a party that has a clear vision of how to develop the country.

Mr. Phiri disclosed that a number of political parties approached him to stand on their party tickets but that he chose the UPND because it has an established and mature leadership.

He expressed confidence that he will scoop the seat because he commands tremendous support from the people of Milanzi.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia has set June 28 for the election.

The Milanzi parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of area Member of Parliament Chisoni Njovu.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kapita has disclosed that party president Hakainde Hichilema is in China to learn how that country is successfully managing its economy.

Mr. Kapita said China has initiated rural projects that are helping to improve the livelihood of the rural population, hence UPND wants to ensure that Zambians living in rural areas benefit from such initiatives.

He said the UPND president will meet top officials in that country to discuss a range of issues.

And answering questions from journalists during the briefing, Mr. Kapita said the 50 percent plus one threshold for the election of the Republican President is welcome.

He said a popular president should be elected by the majority of the people from across the country not only from one region.

  1. The UPND’s nomination of Chamwala Phiri as its candidate in the Milanzi by Parliamentary election cn nt pass without comment.I’ve known Mr Phiri 4 a long time during the time he served as Milanzi MP frm 1996-2001 as he did not offer himself 4 re election. He stands out 2 b a man of integrity and result oriented, the people of Milanzi cn attest 2 tht fact.Combining his personal hard work in Milanzi and his association 2 a Serious, visionary & mature Party (UPND),all being equal i’ve no doubt tht Mr Phiri & the UPND wil carry the day.Currently UPND seems to be enjoying favour across the country bcoz of its intra party democray, stability, constitency, adherence 2 its Manifesto and its commitments 2 reberrate us Zambians economically.

  2. Welldone UPND. Do not sit on your ass scratching your navel while the nation wants clear messages on what needs to be done to make Zambia a better country.

  3. Sata suffers heart attack
Patriotic Front President, Michael Sata has suffered a severe heart attack and has been flown to South Africa for treatment.

Mr. Sata who is leader the biggest opposition party in Zambia was flown to South African’s Mile Park clinic in Johannesburg at 01:30 hours – Saturday.

Health Minister, Brian Chituwo confirmed to ZNBC news that Mr. Sata suffered a severe heart attack.

  4. Dr. Chituwo said President Mwanawasa gave a directive that the PF leader be immediately evacuated to South Africa for emergency treatment.

He said the plane carrying Mr. Sata landed in South Africa at 03:30 hours and he was immediately taken for treatment.

Dr. Chituwo said government will give an update on the condition of Mr. Sata.

  5. So this will give room to UPND coz Sata will not need more rest. Upnd, try your best, state house is your in 2011

  6. sata is good jst as an opposition leader to make noise for the rulling pipo so that they don’t go astray but not as a president he has already failed to deliver together with chiluba,#7 you have no brains.

  7. The UPND has a good candidate. Let them get more organised and get this country moving. Let them move this country out of this economic wilderness.
Sorry for the king cobra. Let him get well soon. However it is not a bad idea to quickly hold a party convention during his absence and put elect people to run the party without fear.

I totally agree with #8, the big man is not a presidential material. He has out lived his usefulness. He had his time

  8. Mature politicians and administrators of Mr Chamwala Phiri clearly have shown us the way. Consistence is required in life for people to take one seriously and I have no doubt the UPND has shown this rare attribute in the way it has handled itself for years now.

The UPND President HH has also shown his interest in serving the Zambian people to the fullest by going out on his way to even take up sound lessons on how China is doing things that have now slowly, but surely turn China into a world economic giant that is sending shockwaves to US and EU. I really appreciate your commitment to do in-situ training in China Mr UPND President.

All the best in your 2011 Republican presidential amdition

  9. HH is the right presidential material for 2011. Even developed countries have now turned to China for assistance indirectly sponsoring more Chinese and Indian students to study in their countries so that they can tap the creams from those countries. It is very good idea that HH is groomed on how to lead the country before hand. Zambia has the potential of becoming the bread basket of southern Africa with all the rich natural resources. HH you have my vote come what 2011.

  10. HH will be a president in Choma because thats the only bloody place he can win with 50+1 majority. He’s not for me, over your dead bodies

  11. i know #13/14, is a supporter of sata who is currently nursing his heart. HH to me looks a better person than sata or even levy.

  12. Some persons lack objectiveness even where sensible things are clearly portrayed in front of their eyes.

There is need to put behind all unnecessary indoctrinations and emotions in order to advance sound contributions to topics of this nature. go, go forward UPND.

  13. # 18,walipena chi tembo iwe!!is that ur name,anyway,from eastern,i wouldn’t be surprised.stana nafwa nga taumfwile!

  14. #19 bwalya, are you sure the guy is dead? please give us more data. can someone confirm what bwalya is claiming, so that we buy air tickets

  15. # 20 Lombe, where are you going? The bible says let the dead burry themselves, let alone those who die in sin like the ” mobIle chimney, chain smoker, womaniser satana”

  16. Good show HH time will tell and plse start strategising for the next election and build your capacity by visits to more recent success stories especially in the global south coz thats were the solution lies. I think that a visit to Batswana country is not bad coz we can learn a thing though.Extend your visit to India too and plse when you form govt, lets call the shots since we have the natural resources to meet China’s apetite for resources by making them partner with us in national development. Good planning will sure get us moving up the ladder and worry not the old guards are falling off as poor health is catching up. Go HH Go!!!!!
