Three Shortlisted for National Team Coach Job

Share

FAZ has short-listed three foreign-born coaches for the job of Zambia national team head trainer.

Association spokesman Emmanuel Munaile said today that the three candidates were all European.

Munaile said the trio on the shortlist hail from The Netherlands, France and Germany but did not give their identities or experiences.

He said the three would be interviewed over the coming days as Zambia begins its preparations for their 2010 World Cup, preliminary Group 11 qualifying match away to Togo on May 30.

The successful candidate for the Zambia job will be the first foreign coach to take charge of the team fulltime on a long-term contract in six years after fiery Dutchman Jan Brouwer who was in charge from 2000 to 2002.

The current Zambia job has been vacant since March 30 this year following the expiry of Patrick Phiri’s extended contract as head trainer.

  1. have we not been talking about capacity building from health delivery to sports and all other human endavours. why after being such a soccer power house for so long we still have not developed the capacity in coaches.

  2. aba sungu bena mulabapa ama contracts and they take our money and the team doesnt go anywhere.our fellow zambian tamwamupele nempiya shakwe which he worked for.first pay phiri the money you are onwing him.dont just rush to get an expatriet and then pay him alot of money while you have failed to pay our own.tefyo chifwile ukuba mwaaa…..

  3. Chris Katongo goes into action for BIF in the Danish Cup final tomorrow at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen. Should Brøndby IF lift the cup, they will then qualify to the UEAF Cup next season, however this could be without Chris as I expect him to be bought by a club either in the UK, Germany, Spain, France or Italy. He has attracted enough attention to give him a contract else where, unless BIF hold on to him. I will give an update as the is played mailo. Kickoff is 15:00 hours Danish time. Cheers

  4. ALL THE BEST FOR CHRIS KATONGO….HE MAKES US PROUD…

Now taking about this expatriate coach issue…why bring in a coach when we cant even build a stadium???

  5. When are we employing expatriate Ministers,MPs, etc.If we can’nt build internal capacity after so many years, how many more? Add to the fact that there is little transparency in the whole hiring business.Suppose the foreign Coaches perform less than Phiri? I would have loved more transparency so that those who would not make it would be known. Are’nt these friends of some guys in FAZ? Recent foreign coaches have quite a mess.We have no team in CAF.Do we need foreign coaches there too?

  6. MAN UNITED KEEP IT UP AND LIFT THE UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE CUP AND PREMIERSHIP!

ON THE LOCAL SCENE, I DO NOT THINK WE NEED AN EXPAT COACH. LETS HAVE A LOCAL AND PAY HIM WHAT IS DUE TO HIM. IT IS SAD TO NOTE THAT POOR PATRICK PHIRI IS OWED MONEY BY THE SAME FAZ CONTRACTING A FOREIGN COACH. SHAME ON YOU KALU AND MUNAILE!

Thanks for such information about Chris Katongo and may you please keep us posted about any latest development.
On the local scene it`s no other than BRAVO NCHANGA RANGERS while at global level it`s MANCHESTER UNITED.I hope Liverpool does us a favour by knocking out AVERAGE’s (Avram’s) chelsea.Riise must behave tonight and instead should cause Chelsea some grief for firing the Special one(Mourinho)
MAN U vs Liverpool (Ba customer) in MOSCOW

  8. It seems clear to me that a foreign coach is needed, the players need to know who is in charge and that person needs to command some respect. Look what’s happening with team in Botswana… Every country looks for a foreigner at some point, it helps to have clear thinking.

  9. Bwana chapi, can you come back here and post a decent comment about Chelsea? And ba judge please let us know more about Chris. My other problem is: Why not disclose the names of the so listed European coaches? Is this another story of Zies. Remember that German coach whose only record was with Katmandu tigers in Nepal?

  10. “Association spokesman Emmanuel Munaile” … I thought Munaile is Vice President of FAZ. Anyhow, not much of a difference between Veep and Spokesman.

#11. I am with you on the names issue. There is speculation which I read I think on a SA web newspaper that Lothar Matteus (Spelling – Germany) is up for the job some one or two weeks ago. I think you can get the story through google.

Lets however see what FAZ has to show us.

  11. I hope the new coach will find the four new stadia in Kitwe, Ndola, Lusaka and Livingstone as he prepares us the World Cup qualification and as World Cup bound teams train in Zambia to acclimatize for RSA. Did you say I were dreaming?

  12. #11 Esau
Congratulations Chelsea for making it to the finals but remember that it`s Man United`s year for the double.

  13. Continued from 9… Every country looks for a foreigner at some point, it helps to have clear thinking from who is detached from that country.

We really need someone who is going to select the team and push them much further. That has to happen…

  14. The problem we have is that we want instant results. Which world class coach can secceed with our current national team players. Its not about selection process but we just dont have the players to compete at the international level. Good luck to him/she

This FAZ should concentrate on laying the foundation by developing grass root football from the age of six, decentralise FAZ to a provincial level and introduce provincal and district soccer leagues or may be constitutional leagues and teams.

  15. Moscow here we come! Man U be careful, who knows you might lose both the league and the Champions league to Chelsea.

All the best to Zambia as we try to find a good coach who will deliver. And Kabwe warriors pull yourselves together,we are with you all the way.

  16. Get that team a trainer with sound records and not the one you have personal business with.Someone that will select a team on merit and not based on names.Furthermore, pay Phiri his money soon.
He did his part so why the delay?
Manchester vs Chelsea…………very interesting game it will be.
Sorry Chelsea fans cos you will hammered.
Won´t go without a word on Katongo.Big up and all the best.

  17. # 3 Justice, thanks for the update and I shall support Cris and you spiritually. I have high expectations that Chris will shine and make Brondby win the trophy. I would love it wins and qualifies for UEFA Cup for him to get exposure rather than rushing to other leagues. I would favour him going to spain. On the issue of the coach, I feel local coaches have failed, they lack technical and tactical nous, which a foreign coach can bring in. I support the idea of an expatriate coach being hired.

  18. #19 Thanks brother I will keep an update right here as in the game is in progress. On the question of coaches I fell that big companies in Zambia like Zesco for instance should consider sending Wedson Nyirenda for a coaching course abroad say for 6 months or even a year, this goes for KCM sponsored teams like Rangers, Nkana, Konkola etc. Look at KCM they want to pay 20.000 dollors a month for an expatriate coach, why can’t they do the same for their teams bring in expatriate coaches for their teams while the local guys are attending coaching courses abroad or even getting a qualified coaches trainer to come to Zambia for say a periode of 6 months or even a year, and conduct coaching courses

  19. Cont.. this will be very beneficial for a our game. KCM are earning a lot of money, so cash should not be an excuse at all. We need trained coaches at club level, otherwise we will never get anywhere

  20. Brøndby in the lead, 1-0 thru. Holmen after 14 minutes. Katongo is in the starting line up. BIF have taken over control of the game. Later

  21. Goal to Esbjerg 2-2 after 79 minutes. Brondby’s defence has problems giving away easy goals.

  22. Thanks Justice Kafusha for such timely updates.Congrats Chris Katongo and BIF for qualifying to the UEFA cup.

  23. wow, thanks Justice! glad you have come back.

I agree, let’s see the standards raised in the PL, it’s no mystery and everyone has mentioned the lower quality of tactics and technics despite the quality of talent. Let’s see these things improved.

Frank Rykard of Barcelona was saying how much better the standards are in England, physically and tactically and so on they just play harder in England. He seemed a well beaten man when he said that, but it’s the truth and he did well realize it even though Barca is bursting with the exceptional players.

    GO GO BRONDBY

  24. I have just seen the highlights of the game. Katongo is a great asset to Zambia and Brondby. What is happening to Mayuka in Portugal?

  25. #31 and 32 read wwwdotzambiansoccerdorcom and times of zambia on Mayuka. I think the Dutch coach being earmarked is Marc van Bastein or Ruud Gullit, am just thinking aloud.

  26. #33 Chips
Ruud Gullit is the LA Galaxy head coach so I wouldn`t think that he could leave such a lucrative job to come and train our national team.
Anyway,I hope FAZ attracts a top class coach who would enable Zambia qualify to the 2010 world cup.

  27. actions speks louder than words.Faz ou better know hat you doing cos Zambia i no longer a big football nation as it used to be.

  28. hello there and thank you in your information ? I’ve certainly picked up something new from proper here.
