Zambia Suffer Embarassing Loss to Botswana

Share

Faz selector’s ambitious plan to send an experimental Zambia team to Gaborone to face Botswana in a crucial 2009 CHAN 1st round 1st leg qualifier today backfired on them in Gaborone that saw them go down 1-0 to their host this afternoon.

It got even worse for Zambia after half of CHAN preliminary round winning team was dismantled as Christmas came seven months early for Botswana.

Debutant Young Arrows defender White Simwanza whom most of us had hardly heard of until last week when his name was listed amongst the new CHAN call-ups turned the ball into his own net in the 39th minute.

It wasn’t really clear whether Simwanza was trying to kick the ball into touch or attempting a back-pass to the clearly out of position Power Dynamos goalkeeper Rabson Muchelenganga.

Zambia showed little to suggest to us there was promise that the six new faces on the field would be the men to send us to the Abidjan finals next February.

Peter Kaumba solely missed the services of Zesco United defender William Chinyama at left back who withdrew from the team due to family reasons while Lusaka Dynamos defender Hichani Himoonde was dropped.

Chinyama’s return in a fortnights time will be welcome so too will be a recall for Hiomoonde after a poor show by Simwanza and Sanida Zulu in central defence today.

Meanwhile Zanaco striker Roger Kola struggled to get quality service and partnership upfront.

Dynamos William Njovu is still suffering from burnout before he was substituted to little effect while Zesco striker Enoch Sakala failed to raise his game to that bar above the local league.

However, Peter Kaumba said from Gaborone this evening after the match that he is confident Zambia can recover on May 17 in Lusaka and make it to the final qualifying stage later in the year.

The team returns home tomorrow evening from Botswana.

  1. Now that the results have spoken, can the FAZ technical committee (including the Coach) justify their reasons for changing a winning team- the one that beat Swaziland. Surely, Zambia is a finished giant if we can continue to struggle against Botswana the way we have in the last few encounters.

  2. Is there a difference between a loss and an embarrassing loss?
You guys at LT, your reporting on our national team is really questionable. when our team beat the sh!t out of Sudan(3 nil)
in Jan, you guys said Zambia’s performance was awful, today we loose by a single goal away from home and you’re saying it was an embarrassing loss?
you know what? we are going to beat the sh%t out of the Zebras when they come to Zambia like it or not.

  3. Who told you to change the winning team in the first place? You change weak areas like william Njovu who admitted the fact that he burning out and not the entire team.
We hope it is not corruption at work from the coaching beanch.

  4. This good news!!!! It will take a hard drop for these fools to realize that everybody has to work hard to earn their respect. Good going Botswana. As for zed, mwa wola ba f1kala

  5. #3 Yes there is…I mean if we lost to Man U it’s a loss but lossing to the Zebra’s it’s an embassing loss. Further, beating Sudan is not the same as beating Ivory Coast, Ghana, Egypt and the likes!
I just wonder if our so called coaches even know football tactics….!!!!

  6. It is the coaches (former players with grade seven certificates); no analytical skills required in the game as it is played today.

  7. Our selectors should get more serious in their duties. If they are not ready, they should leave that in the hands of capable people to take over.

  8. I’m usually very supportive of the national squad. Not today! Why is Peter Kaumba still in job after failing to qualify us to Beijing? This is the same man who didnt include Kalaba and co. citing lame excuses. No wonder Kalaba doesn’t want to play for Kaumba. My verdict… fire Kaumba, give the job to Wedson Nyirenda. Better still, advertise for a qualified coach of whatever nationality or colour, just as long as he is QUALIFIED with a PROVEN TRACK RECORD. Foreign isn’t always better.

  9. It is always very difficult to transform a team so quickly and expect good results. However, this is football the Zebra’s did their job taking advantage of Zambia’s young team, due to Zambia not having the most exprienced defence. I am sure Zambia we do better on May 17th. Good luck fox.

  10. KAUMBA ENJOYS ZAMBIA’S LOSES , WHEN WE WIN HE MAKES CHANGES TO ENSURE THAT WE LOSE THE NEXT GAME — SOMEBODY SHOULD DO SMETHING TO THIS GUY WE CAN NOT CONTINUE TO TALK THE SOME THING EVERY TIME , HIS EMBARRASING THE NATION.

  11. If it aren’t broke, don’t fix it! I can see the shadow of Kalusha Bwalya hovering over the bench and selection process. Now that he is FAZ president, god may as well rest the soul of the once formidable Zambian soccer in eternal peace. Something to say about Luapulans, very dull chaps but always so earger to be in the driver’s seat. Examples: Chiluba FTJ, Katele Kalumba, Machungwa, Kadobi Scorpion etc. Stinking Katangese failures, you suck big time.

  12. Afew days ago I commented on the 12 players dropped by Peter Kaumba who failed to coach Kitwe United. How could someone who knows what he is doing make 12 changes from 22…..morethan 50%?

  13. I AM NOT A SOCCER FAN. But i don’t like it when Zambia loses. But the question is. Dont coaches (managers-whatever u call them) go to college or university? If they dont in Zambia, we are living in the past, (as ever). GRZ should start sponsoring school leavers to these versities in the same way they sponsor students for medicine, nursing, engineers, etc. AND build modern stadia. This are not ages for ukuteya icimpombwa mumusebo.

  14. #15. I object to government involvement in soccer. At least they should not be bankrolling FAZ. What is required is a serious look at how sport is run in the country. Amateurism starts at FAZ and is perversive throughout the game. Some clubs are well run but they are let down by a FAZ that is run by intellectual pygmies. The job of FAZ is no just to run the national team but also to develop the Zambian game as whole. This should include convincing businesses to pour money into the game, facilitate building of national stadia, setting up and running a soccer academies for up and coming talent, etc. Let us not expect to win games as if we have a God given right!

  15. Kaumba behaves like a mad scientist, why experiment when it conmes to such games? We surely need a trainer with a sound record, someone who knows something about the modern game.

  16. I second Stretch.dj.Peter Kaumba is really hopeless and I wonder why Kalusha appointed him as head coach after a series of his blunders at U23 level! The best candidate for that position is Lwandamina since the majority of the players are U20 whom he is familiar with and also made the impact on the world recently. This points to Kalusha’s line of thought which clealy gives us an idea of what Zambian football will be like in the near future.Kaumba has always been a failure at all levels! They relieve Patrick and Engage Kaumba what does that mean? These are personal decisions.I do not mean Patrick is the best coach but I question the decision.FAZ contributes 40% to Zambia’s set backs in football

  17. This completely shows like of strategic planning, the coach does not even look at the long term …after the win what, no big picture in his old mind.

Take advantage of continues improvement, why experiment when you have winning term in place.

People now use models to achieve results and make small adjustments to achieve results. Please let’s develop and focus on delivering results other wise lets stop.

  18. Allow this coach to explain why he made changes to the wining team and what he will do next.

Take this people you employ to schools so that their can grow in mind …so that their make informed decisions.

And please employ this people on performance based approach otherwise you are just wasting our hard money earned in tax payment.

Please remember that we are stakeholders on national issues-football and others and do not waste our resourse.

  19. “3 you are useless, zambia was one of the best in africa football and botswana was one of the useless teams but 2day we strungle to beat botswana these are the effects of always changing either the coach, team members or the faz com.

  20. We should consider changing the coach for the Under 23 National Team. Even if people do not want to blame the coach but he has a final say on who should be selected to the team.

We should stop experimenting. He knows the players he was using last year.

    Fire the coach.

  21. Its hard to be a Zambian Soccer Fan. There is really to be proud about. Its all comedy day in day out.

  22. Its hard to be a Zambian Soccer Fan. There is really NOTHING to be proud about. Its all comedy day in day out.

  23. These are the consequences of putting a chikopo as the coach. Does the guy even have a coaching certificate? fire the punk

  24. People may not readly accept that since 2001 up to date Zamibia has never beaten Botswana at home. It is really disappointing for Botswana to beat Zambia 1-0 in Gaborone because this has been the case since 7 years ago. By now the Zebras should be able kick the hell out of Zambia 3-0. Therefore there is nothing embarrassing about Botswana beating us only 1-0 when they have been on the rise of late and look set to beat us 5-0 in Lusaka in a fortnight. They are no football minnows/darkhorses/lightweights or whatever term. They game is played by 11 men against 11 men and Zambia does not have a God given right to dispatch Botswana in every single competition.

  25. Emmanuel Mayaka should be included in the under 23 chipolopolo national score team on 17th May 2008 to finish out the Zebras, please coaches you should not experiment players on international matches. You have to experiment on friendly matches.

  26. If only our players went to school and had some level of education to know that when you put on your national team jersey, you should represent yor nation to the fullest and with pride. But those monuments that the ***** so called the coach chooses are all illiterate…what do you expect. They are not confident and just want to get the match over with so they can go to drink kachasu…….

  27. Next, thing to happen will be the faz president will get involved in selecting players he wants to see play, who are not national team material..Its really sad to see a one time power house on the african continent embarrassed by botswana, whose next..malawi,ethiopia or india?Am glad am not in zambia to see this silly joke called the national team.

  28. The Zebras are coming to Lusaka on the 17th of May for business and not for jokes. You guys have never been embarrassed by the Zebras. Your time for embarrassment is the 17th of May 2008 at Independence stadium in Lusaka. What happened in Gaborone is not even worth called an embarrassment, it is a warning for copper bullets to go to the copperbelt and get all their best asernal for May 17 do or die, dog eat dog final showdown in Lusaka. Zambia has NEVER beaten Botswana away since 2000.

  29. Nice lesson for Zambia. Zambia was known to be a footballing giant not too long ago and iam sure it is still considered as such by some countries. Botswana made sure that Zambia goes down the drain and that is exactly what they did. Problem is that our Team does not appear to know their value. Until they come to realise whom they are, they will continue to be the whipping boys of not only Southern Africa, but the entire continent. Wake up boys, you are giants in football and you can still make this beautiful country and its people proud again.

  30. BuzzEd this is interesting. We had a blast with the young man & thanks for coming thru. The national team is a serious concern. I think these punks drink too much chibuku nokupepa ifyamba saana. I hope they get kicked out as soon as possible.

  31. This is Peter Kaumba’s trademark. We lost the crucial Beijin Olympics Qualifier largely due to not featuring better players.

  32. Cabbage produces cabbage! Why surprised when beaten by a team with organized systems behind it?

  33. Don’t blame the coach, rather blame the loss on the lack of good players. Most of the players are of very low IQ and you cannot expect much from such players even if they were to be coached by Sir Alex Ferguson.

  34. Kapambwe “Gentile” Mulenga had very humble education but his IQ and football skills were better than some of these guys.

  35. #45 tell us who selects the players with very low IQ , the COACH KAUMBA leaves those with brains and experiments you seem to think like KAUMBA KSK.

  36. Pipo, first of all Botswana is a strong team. They nearly qualified for Ghana, the same team.
    2. Why did Zambia change the team? And who selects the team is it the coach or FAZ? I thought Kalu would change things but it seems no. I agree, Lwandamina should take over. Kaumba has failed since I can remember. We need Lwandamine or Wedson or charlie cool.

  37. #47 you seriously believe Zambia has intelligent players? I don’t think so. If we had intelligent players they would have broken into the English league by now. The few that have gone to Europe are playing in inferior leagues. This goes to show that the IQ of most of our players is not up there. You know that anyone can play football just like any fool can drive but it requires someone with a high IQ to be a pilot. Let FAZ hire an expatriate coach but nothing will change because the current crop of players do not have what it takes.

  38. im a zambian levng in botswana nd i can tell u tht botswana is going 2 beat zambia in return game blv it or not.zambia football is going back while botswana football is going 4ward
