Don’t eat that fish

Share

Hundreds of fish are dying because of a fungal disease that has broken out in musonweji river in Mufumbwe.

Acting District Agriculture Coordinator, Perfecto Kabanshi confirmed the development to the National Agricultural Information Service (NAIS).

Dr. Kabanshi said the fish have been dying since February this year.

He said the disease is caused by a fungus, which causes fungal ulcers on the fish, making them weak and eventually die.

Samples of both fish and water from the two rivers have been sent to Lusaka for further investigations.

Dr. Kabanshi cautioned people of Musonweji and Kapibubu areas against consuming the affected fish.

He said though fish diseases do not widely affect human beings, people should not compromise public health until experts ascertain what the cause of the disease was.

  1. bantu’s eat anything, when the bird flu was killing birds in some parts of the world, people in nigeria dug out buried chickens at night and grilled them the next day outside pubs, muntu’s eat rats, apes, snakes, insects, worms, sick fish would certainly not harm any bantu.

  2. Have you snet in people experts to test the fish?what will our people eat?the earlier, the better.

  3. Zambians must not believe what these paid collaborators say about the causes of our fish dying. The real reason is the rampant dumping of poisonous chemicals in our rivers by the uncontrolled Chinese miners and prospectors in the bush.

This government is as great as a discarded condom for Zambians. It has no care and does not intend to improve the lot for the people of Zambia. These guys are paid agents of enslavement. This is why they support neo-liberal policies against the wishes of the greater majority of Zambians. Their stomachs are full of aid money (meaning bribes) and they have become spokesmen for enslavement of Africa.

  4. Hey #6, take it from me, fish reproduce by other means – they don’t know how to slaughter. I’m an expert in this area.

  5. #9 – great post. Good to know people still look past what the media say. If only we can start holding this govt accountable for the actions it claims to do on our behalf we would realise how these people have been taking us for a ride. If we keep quiet then we are complicit in the crimes being committed against us, against the future generations. Imagine your grandkids asking “where were you when the govt took away your freedoms, your lands, your resources?”. We give up our freedom little by little in exchange of convinience. By the time you wake up, the camel will have totally kicked you out of your tent – if you still remember the grade5/6 story.

  6. its high time you got these rural guys intrested in fish farming – they will avoid or atleast reduce contamination from industrial waste, and also have other options when the chintubwingi feeds are banned; plus fish farming is not costly.
