A church organisation in Mansa is happy with the role of the Maureen Mwanawasa Community Initiative, MMCI, in efforts of improving the livelihood of the underprivileged people in society.

Mansa West Christian Mission Mainlands, CMML, Orphanage representative, Francis Seketi, said the MMCI should be uplauded for supplementing government efforts in implementing development projects meant to improve the social-economic welfare of the vulnerable communities.

Mr Seketi was speaking after receiving a donation of One million kwacha cash, a bale of secondhand clothes and two sewing machines, on behalf of the orphanage from the MMCI.

Mr Seketi said the MMCI has made the donation at a time when the orphanage is fund raising for funds to enable it complete construction of a classroom at ther centre.

“This gesture from the First Lady is a great contribution in making the centre move in the direction of self sufficiency and cater for the deprived orphans in the surrounding community under our program,” he said.

Mr Seketi said the orphanage is encouraged by First Lady Maureen Mwanawasa’s responsiveness, through the MMCI, to meeting the needs of the vulnerable people through assistance given to various non governmental organisations and other intetrest groups.

And Mansa District Commissioner, Moddy Chola, who handed over the donation on behalf of the MMCI said government is overwhelmed with the enormous development projects hence the need for other organisations to come on board and help meet other needs in society.

Ms Chola, however, cautioned the Committee overseeing the operations and project of the orphanage to ensure the donation is utilized for the intended purpose.

Ms. Chola said it is important for the leadership at the centre to abide to transparency principles in the utilisation of the donated funds.

She also advised the centre to take advantage of the donated sewing machines to embark on income generating projects.

  1. Please let’s also cure HIV/AIDS with the electrification of the blood. We are all aware that devises are being made and sold cheaply in europe. Not only can the process kill HIV, but also any bacteria and virus thus potentially eliminating any bacteria and virus caused disease.

  2. mrs mwanawasa is reaaly doing a good job that i accept with all my heart.but the problem is that she is making people fuss about the activities of her organisation as though it is the only organisation doin great humanitarian work. i supppose this is her campaigning techniques as she is conteplating on becoming Zambias first female president.

  3. I pray to our almighty God that MMCI does not take the route Hope Foundation took, or is a campaign gimmik for Plot 1 in 2011 coz she is more educated than VCT of HF that she thinks she is hoodwinking us? Anyway…………..as I have always said, in Zambia, events are always crystal clear even before they happen! Kaya!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. I commend the work MMCI is doing. If you think of it a First lady world over does not have any job description. Ba Maureen may have choosen to make Tea for foreign Diplomates.. but NO. The MMCI in my opnion is more viable and benefitial to our communities. Bearing in mind that by her position, she can mobilise resources locally and globally. MMCI keep up the work and I hope you continue post 2011.

  5. Hope foundation? i do not understand why news should be published. it all taxe payers money and copper earnings that she is using…ma rubbish
