Player Forced To “Warm-Up” Touchline After being Denied Toilet Break

Share

Roan United defender kellys Sichiliya caused a stir at Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka on Saturday, May 10, after he was forced to answer to the call of nature on the corner-line in full view of spectators.

The incident happened in the 71st minute of Roan’s Faz Premier League Week 9 match away to Green Buffaloes with the hosts trailing 1-0.

Sichiliya, who was on the substitute bench, stood up from Roan’s dug-out after he suddenly felt a strong urge to relieve himself.

However, when Sichiliya got to the locked gate leading to the tunnel leading to the dressing room, the Buffaloes match stewards refused to let Sichiliya through.

The Stewards allegedly suspected the defender of attempting an act of “Juju” in a match Buffaloes enjoyed but fluffed more shots on goal than their hosts whose best chance on target they utilized to full-effect in the 27th minute when striker Ben Mwanza converted a penalty.

Sichiliya pleaded with the stewards, who were on the spectator side of the field behind a locked gate, for three minutes to let him through to Roan’s dressing room but they refused to yield to his plea.

With no intervention from the referee, Sichiliya then trotted off to Roan’s end of the corner-line of the field where he joined two of his team mates were warming up.

Sichiliya then positioned himself in-between the two players to join them in a stretch routine.

In the midst of the exercise, Sichiliya went down on both knees, extracted his member through the leg of his shorts.

He then proceeded to take a pee in full-view of an amused half-full Woodlands crowd without receiving a reprimand from the match officials.

Sichiliya then returned to warming up with his team mates before he came onto the field of play 5 minutes later.

To Buffaloes relief, Roan’s magic was “neutralized” and they went on to equalize in the 83rd minute via a penalty of their own converted by Lawrence Phiri to finish level with the visiting side.

Unlike in the past, shenanigans are rare in the top-flight though in extreme cases some visiting teams have been denied access to the playing field until the final minutes before kickoff.

Meanwhile, Buffaloes are top of the Faz Premier League table after that home draw tied 16 points together with former leaders Young Arrows and defending league champions Zesco United from 9 matches played.

Roan on the other hand, are 7 points adrift of the trio tied at the top and 2nd from bottom in the two-month-old league season.

  1. The guy just wanted to relieve himself as ‘alipamfiwa’.
Here is what Ba Jacob Mulenga said. I truly do not have confidence in this striker.

FRANCE-BASED towering winger Jacob Mulenga says he is looking forward to working with Frenchman Herve Renard who has been appointed Zambia national team coach.

And midfielder Andrew Sinkala has recovered from tuberculosis and started training with his German second division side SC Paderborn 07.

Speaking in a telephone interview from France on Thursday night, Mulenga said the French were hardworking.

“I think it is a good idea having a Frenchman as national coach. Obviously being in France for sometime has helped me learn about how the Frenc

  2. Good news that Mr Sinkala has recovered from TB. He will be of value to the forth 2010 Africa Cup and World Cup matches as we need these experienced guys.

Sinkala said in an interview from Germany that he was fit to play for the Chipolopolo.

Sinkala missed the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana due to sickness.

“I started training with my club three weeks ago and I played a friendly game for 90 minutes last week. To play 90 minutes means that my health is okay,” he said.

Sinkala said he wanted to be part of the team that would bring honour to the country.

He also advised Zambians to avoid interfering with Renard’s work.

Sinkala said the Frenchman should be left to do his w

    By DIANA MUTAKAFIMBO

ZAMBIA captain, Christopher Katongo has said he would mobilise his teammates to give new coach Herve Renard as much support as possible if the Frenchman is to deliver the desired results.

In an interview from Denmark yesterday, Katongo said he was looking forward to working with the Frenchman and appealed to all stakeholders to give him the needed support.

Katongo said the new coach needed enough support especially with the beginning of the conjoined 2010 Africa Cup and World Cup qualifiers this month-end if Zambia is to qualify to both tournaments that would be hosted by Angola and South Africa respectively.

  4. Zambia is scheduled to play the first qualifier against Togo in the Ghanaian capital Accra on May 31.

“I am yearning to come and see the new coach and see what he has for the team. I am sure he will bring in new ideas. We need to give him support so that he can share his ideas with the people and us as a team in particular. With support from everyone, he can do it,” Katongo said.

Katongo said Renard’s biggest challenge would be to have a good curriculum vitae (CV) and also to show the entire world that he was not only an assistant coach material but could also handle a national team as head coach.

  5. Yes, yes yes, welcome back Sinkala, let’s go Chipolopolo, Zambia’s greatest team is coming!!!

  6. That was total humiliation at its best.the security chaps have to ve disciplined!well done for using your initiative Sichula.

  7. Sad incident with with the Roan player. One would think that such muti stuff were gone with time changes.Even Soldiers are scared of muti yaba!

  8. Whiles i was one of the people that welcomed the appointment of the new coach.I feel the Man needs to be given a performance Driven Contract. He needs to know that hes main goal is to take the team to the 2010 World Cup.If he fails he’s gone.

  9. If What I read is true then there is something in Zambian football and if care is not taken, results will be very disheartening. Not even tHE Ghana Physical Trainer will help the situation.By the way Our very own Patrick has a better CV than this French musungu or guy.Why not take Phiri to Under 20 or under 23?Kaumba must go,the chap achieved and no records.Phiri s CV is there for ebery one to see.Management is killing not only lives in Zambia bit also the game.lost so many people due to poverty, aids, sports etc all due to faulty admnistration

  10. I also agree with #11 Choma 1,Patrick phiri has a better CV than that of Kalu and this french guy.In my view i think he would have been given more time.

  11. The task Faz should have given to the Ghana physical trainer or french muzungu is to qualify us to the world cup other than that then Patrick is the main man.For the first time some people saw trouphies at international level in Zambia. The continent was talking highly of Zambia because of Patrick s record as a coach at Simba

  12. I appreciate soccer fans` enthusiasm about Patrick Phiri but I strongly disagree that he`s got the skills to take Zambia to the next level. This is the man that has gone in the history books as having failed to qualify Zambia to the Africa Cup and when he did,we couldn`t even go past the first round.I think FAZ did well to fire him.If we`re now content in lifting tournaments such as COSAFA then we`ve got big problems.Infact Zambia B should be the ones competing in such tournaments for exposure purposes.
We need to rally behind the new coach if we`re to experience any success.Remember that Poulsen was also unknown before he came to coach Zambia and I think he performed wonders with our team.

  13. The truth we come out guys lets wait and see what the new coach will bring for mother Zambia. Rather than making silly judgement on the matter without even seening the new coach’s vison. It we take time to get adjusted to system of course, that is normal. However, I wise Zambia the very best. Only time we tell.

  14. If this guy has been told to qualify Zambia to the Africa Cup of nations then FAZ have no brains.

Why dont we try to bring in expertriates to run FAZ, it seems like our own Zambians have faild us.

Its easier to qualify for the africa cup of nations this time than it was with phiri. This time you just have to come third and thats it. Phiri managed to come first in our group which I think was excallent.

    This FAZ has no ambition.

  15. Come to think of it, what if the guy had diarrhoea? And what if a player is on the field of play and suddenely needs to relieve himself/herself? What do the rules of the game say, or are they just left to whimsical interpretation? Admittedly, in all my watching of soccer, something of this sort has never happened. Except if it could be that all that profuse sweating in some players (especially btn the legs) is actually wee wee. Given its rarity, however, little wonder that ‘juju’ inclined mortals thought the guy had something up his ‘mojo’to the detriment of their team! Surely, with this kind of thinking, how can we ever hope to aspire to the gains of the prestigeous world super leagues!

  16. THE Football Association of Malawi (FAM) is considering engaging the services of former Chipolopolo Boys coach Patrick Phiri on temporary basis for the post of technical advisor ahead of the joint 2010 Africa/World Cup qualifiers.

According to the Daily News in Malawi, FAM wanted to hire Phiri after they were fascinated with how Zambia put up a brave fight against the African champions Egypt during the Nations Cup in February.

“Some members feel that his overall experience is good for the Flames. Further to that Egypt, struggled against Zambia. It was suggested that he should be hired on temporary basis as we start the qualifiers to help our technical panel,” said the source.

  17. FTJ died and went to heaven. When he got there he knocked long and hard on the pearly gates. St. Peter came out and asked his name.
You do not know my name? I’M FTJ Chiluba He roared at St. Peter. St. Peter looked at his list and could not find his name. Sorry said St. Peter you’re not on the list.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN I’M NOT ON THE LIST??? DO YOU NOT KNOW WHO I AM? As a matter of fact I do, said St. Peter, but your name is not on the list, THAT’S NOT GOOD ENOUGH I’M A VERY IMPORTANT PERSON MY NAME SHOULD BE ON THE LIST. St. Peter tried to explain that it’s not easy to get into heaven, that you have to be good to Kaponyas. When FTJ Chiluba hears this he starts to complain. So St. Peter says

  18. Chpai # 15. you really need to know why Patrick could not qualify Zambia to the second round. The list was made for him and he had no option of selecting the players he wanted. Even with those players the team that beat us reached the finals, that shows you the calibre of the Zambian side. You need to have an extra eye for you to say phiri is not qualified enough. Kalu who was qualified enough and got a better saraly than phiri never brought a single trophy home. Do not underestimate phiri. These cheap politics cause a lot of confussion in our soccer standards.
